I have listened to these older lessons and I am now listening to his newer "6 String Ranch" stuff. I have always enjoyed his relaxed style, the sound of his voice is much better than most and the simple "secrets" he shares are killer! My message to Matt is - You're The Man!!!

I have to say - I've only just started watching your videos, Matt, but I find you so endearing and likeable that it makes the whole process a joy. The skills you're showing me here are just fantastic, and lesson content is very well-paced (to my level anyway). Keep it up, mate, this is som excellent stuff you're producing here.

This is perhaps the best guitar lesson you can ever learn if you want to solo . These moves are a staple of rhythm playing as well .

I played violin with Dan Sherwin, and Matt Smith. Back in the roaring 90's. Did some shows in Albany NY, Clifton Park, NY. Dan was a solid singer performer, and Matt was an insightful player. Saw him and Tony Porreno open up for Frank Marino And Mahogany Rush, at Tigers in Clifton Park. In the early 90's. Nice to see, and hear Matt Smith again. Good luck, my friend.

Matt, got to ask your thoughts on fingering. My old guitar teacher from the '50's didn't like my using 2 or 3 finger runs and for years I thought he was right and had to try and unlearn what I learned as a kid in Arizona. After watching your lesson and other really great pickers like Les Paul, Danny Gatton etc, I'm absolutely convinced there is no right way or wrong way. Watching your little lesson I'm thinking you guys are way smarter than my old teacher.

Is this the same Matt Smith that wrote "Speed: Guitar Technique Builder Series"? If so, I hope he reads this. I bought your book when I first started playing and I couldn't really appreciate it. I think I was way too much of a beginner in both mind and technique. I recently pulled it out again after a move and my speed has improved so much that I'm currently considering which Dream Theater song to learn! Thanks!

This sounds very Django-esque. Perhaps that's because it's a two finger lick and he could only use two fingers.

That's an interesting guitar, but it would help a lot if you used a guitar with position markers for your videos. Just saying. :)
