Just watched two videos of this guy, and I've learned more already than in the past few hours of videos I've watched... Love it!
padlockd vvv
lmfao "excuse my hairy troll fingers" I love this guy
Remember some forgotten licks!
What a damn fine teacher.
I have listened to these older lessons and I am now listening to his newer "6 String Ranch" stuff. I have always enjoyed his relaxed style, the sound of his voice is much better than most and the simple "secrets" he shares are killer! My message to Matt is - You're The Man!!!
I have to say - I've only just started watching your videos, Matt, but I find you so endearing and likeable that it makes the whole process a joy. The skills you're showing me here are just fantastic, and lesson content is very well-paced (to my level anyway). Keep it up, mate, this is som excellent stuff you're producing here.
Thanks for posting this, I like your patience and demeanor good teaching.
Holy geez Matt you've always been a master!
I will talk with you soon.
LOVE LOVE LOVE that blues progression and ur follow notes
So proud of your work Matt!
thanks for your time sharing this Matt, very useful
Matt, thanks so much for your excellent tutorials. You are one of the best teachers on youtube. Love your slide lessons...hope to see many more
What a great great lesson of tips and tricks! So glad I stumbled on this! Thanks Matt!
That was just plain life changing!
That was awesome! I have watch a few of your videos because I want that guitar. But I love the way you play & I'm glad I found out that you exist.
matt has a book that has been out for some time called 'chop shop' for guitar that is an extremely cool and practical source of great and usable guitar stuff
This is perhaps the best guitar lesson you can ever learn if you want to solo . These moves are a staple of rhythm playing as well .
Thanks Matt - I ALWAYS learn something I can use from you. You did a Takamine clinic at my store a few years back, it is good to see you again via UA-cam!
Great stuff Matt. Very good video.
Brilliant, as always.... Thanks!
i attended NGW several times but never had matt as a teacher. always enjoyed hearing him play. i can't wait to give this lesson a try.
Matt...I love your humor and great lessons...Thanks
I played violin with Dan Sherwin, and Matt Smith. Back in the roaring 90's. Did some shows in Albany NY, Clifton Park, NY. Dan was a solid singer performer, and Matt was an insightful player. Saw him and Tony Porreno open up for Frank Marino And Mahogany Rush, at Tigers in Clifton Park. In the early 90's. Nice to see, and hear Matt Smith again. Good luck, my friend.
Thank you very much for the technique!
I like this guy. Funny and makes learning fun
I like this guy! Thanks for the edification friends.
what a brilliant concept.. makes it so much easier to solo
That was awesome! Especially your final comment!
Nice to hear the first nod went to Jimmy 'Guitar' Bryant. That man is an absolute dervish on the fretboard!!
Great tips!!
so simple and brilliant - thanks for opening up a new door.
What a great teacher, love it.
Thanks Matt...
I love the "old school" licks...
I'm from the same small town as Jimmy Bryant, so his pickin' has always made an impression on me..!
His brother, John, is a friend of mine..!
we want more matt, what a fun teacher.
Great, keep on bluesing man!
You are my hero! Thank You!
Without doubt the best guitar teacher ever.
Hairy troll fingers....Love it....Great lesson...Thanks
all of this guys vids should have a million veiws. he is a fantastic teacher
Thats awesome!
That is brilliant Matt . . .have loved Django for years . . .and thats the trick . . .man . . .thank you so much . . .
Bloody brilliant, just stumbled across this guy looking for some new licks and hey presto
Been trying out slide every now and again for ten odd years. I've Learnt more in ten minutes by watching you
GREAT VID !!!
wow!!this is awesome!!!!imma gonna learn that..
Everyone is looking at the latest hot licks etc but I am often looking back at how it was done long ago ,,, like what matt shows here !! A gem
Matt. Thank you.
Ha, The little 1/2 step chord runs at the end are great. Yes I'm going to use it at the jam tonight. LOL.
Matt, got to ask your thoughts on fingering. My old guitar teacher from the '50's didn't like my using 2 or 3 finger runs and for years I thought he was right and had to try and unlearn what I learned as a kid in Arizona. After watching your lesson and other really great pickers like Les Paul, Danny Gatton etc, I'm absolutely convinced there is no right way or wrong way. Watching your little lesson I'm thinking you guys are way smarter than my old teacher.
I got the beer, show me more!!!
Matt I've been playin a long time, 64 yrs old. and that was very very sweet and logical thank you.
Is this the same Matt Smith that wrote "Speed: Guitar Technique Builder Series"? If so, I hope he reads this. I bought your book when I first started playing and I couldn't really appreciate it. I think I was way too much of a beginner in both mind and technique. I recently pulled it out again after a move and my speed has improved so much that I'm currently considering which Dream Theater song to learn! Thanks!
Holy Moses dude. What a lesson. I will RULE at the coffeehouse!
Holy shit, I been playing since 1957 and just learn some neat azz stuff. Thanks a bunch...
MATT, IT WAS VERY INTERESTING THAT I (with no knowledge) COULD FOLLOW WHAT YOU WERE SAYING. YOU KEPT MY INTEREST TOO...BOY HAVE THE TIMES CHANGED...CONGRATS !!!!
Wonderful, thank you. PS. You have a wonderful speaking voice!
'excuse my hairy troll fingers...'--i love this guy
Matt thanks for the video, you're 18 carrat gold, and a really good player,
Haha this is great! Now I can play
If the Sopranos series had a guitar instructor in it this guy would have been perfect for the part. He scares the hell out of me. But I can put up with it since all his videos are excellent.
What guage strings do you prefer? Thanks!
You aren't the Doctor...
its ovation t2078
Wish someone could tab this out...
excuse my hairy troll fingers !!! lol
Good job Matt. Check out my HOW TO MAKE A DOBRO FROM AN ACOUSTIC GUITAR.
Cheers
This sounds very Django-esque. Perhaps that's because it's a two finger lick and he could only use two fingers.
That's an interesting guitar, but it would help a lot if you used a guitar with position markers for your videos. Just saying. :)
Can someone please tell me the name of that guitar? Appreciate it.
+Mayra Hernandez It's an Ovation Guitar
does anyone know technically why this works?
