Great scores guys, the key to your reviews is your honest assessment of each expression based you your individual taste profiles. There are some that always keep their scores in a tight range (86-91) so as to curry favor with bottlers and viewers. Not me, before I spend my hard earned money I want to know what I’m buying. I don’t care if your right or wrong, all I’m looking for is your honest opinion, my palate will determine if it works for me. I may even disagree with your review, and that’s just fine. All we’re looking for is honest and unvarnished reviews. You guys are my go to Scotch team, keep it up.

Dr. Bill Lumsden said in a “One Nation Under Whisky” podcasts that the casks used for Scorch were the casks used for Ardbeg Alligator. Apparently they invested so much in the casks on the extreme Char levels that they couldn’t just use it once. He wanted to call it something else but as ever, marketing also has a place in selling whisky and so came the dragon story.
A side by side tasting from alligator and scorch would be interesting!

I am shocked. I did not find a lot of those extreme burnt notes that Bart talks about. Found this to be actually really sweet. Almost cloyingly so, in a very pleasant way. Even my wife who isn't a peat head at all really enjoyed Scorch. Quite interesting and I recommend that you come back to it another day Bart and give it another go. Cheers gentlemen.

Glad to see this review come down the pipe! I thought the standard Scorch was just ok, kinda thin and basic, not as good as the regular 10 year. BUT the Scorch CR blew my socks off, it's so much better. One of my favorite Islays ever. It's really fruity and has those wonderful juicy bourbon cask notes, I get juicy peaches and smoked glazed ham with like a burning sage herbal-ness to it. It's just way more flavor-packed than the standard release. Sounds like someone else had the opposite experience haha. Cheers guys, Bart needs to treat himself somehow for the next review 😂

As peat heads, we alternate between Ardbeg 10 yr, Laphroaig 10 yr, and Peat Monster. Rather than Ardbeg Scorch, we'll break out a dram of Wee Beastie, and call it hot stuff!

Bart looked absolutely heartbroken when he gave it a 79 and I've still never seen a man in a manga T-shirt cry, but I bet he came close. I prescribe a week in peat-hab with some proper whiskies to get him back on track. Very funny review guys!

Thanks for the review guys, I definitely respect your views however we diverge on this one, bought 2 more bottles after I worked my way though the first quite quickly.
We respect all tasters. I’m thrilled that you like it. I (Bart) don’t think it’s a bad whisky I just didn’t enjoy it. I’m not a big fan of heavy wood flavors. I love the continuing whisky experiments going on all over the whisky landscape.

Try a very sweet bourbon before trying this. I noticed much more to this pour after a very sweet bourbon like an old forester for example. Let me know.

Scott, "unique" is Gaelic for "this sucks." I wasn't a fan of the Ardbeg Scorch CR or 46%. But come back to it 6 - 12 months later and try it again. It does need time to open up but it is WAY out of balance.

Looked like Bart was beside himself at the end. Don't think he's ever given a bad review of ardbeg that I can remember. Well at least he liked the dog.

I have the 46% and my friend got the committee release. We both did a side-by-side and both agreed that we like the 46% better thought it had more complexity actually

Didn’t think I’d hear Bart not like an Ardbeg. I’ll avoid this one.😏 Lived in Utah many years; didn’t see many barn raisings or public bars. Just a few state liquor stores.
I should have stayed in the Hershey Pennsylvania area. I think I would have been closer to the barn raisings.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels that way, I really want to buy a bottle, got lucky my friend had one, he told me man just try before you buy one and thank God I did. It is so weird and different , I would not buy one, but I agree this one is going to be either you love it or hate it. In my humble opinion try in the bar see if you like it ,but spending so much money on a bottle , not sure about that.

Shame on you Bart! I thought you were a loyal Ardbeggian who loved ALL things Ardbeg 🙄. Sorry but I will need to report you to Jackie in a couple of weeks when I am on Islay again 😂. Just kidding, as Scott said a few times in the review it is “unique” and certainly not for everyone. Personally, while not my favorite Ardbeg expression, I do like it. Everyone’s palate is different and when it comes to Whisky, I believe that there is no right or wrong. Take care Scott and Bart. Cheers 🥃!

I absolutely loved this release. The Wookie is wrong and I'm not letting him win. Maybe my years of cigars, cigarettes, and high proof whisky, have destroyed my palate. It's a mouthful of happy... which is how I describe myself.

Ok, as someone who is not that deep into Ardbeg because there is already more ash than I would actually love (I love peat and smoke, though) I guess that charry stuff is not something I am going to get. Leave it to ash-lovers ;)

For Bart. Definitely. The Ardbeg core range is stellar.
Interesting. Haven’t had it but Ardbeg lost me with their pricing on their special releases. I can get Laphroaig Cairdeas for a lot less.
We have a lot of great choices out there.

It’s not a “I don’t like” it’s more of how much do I like. We arbitrarily start every whisky at an 80 (most whisky is good, they don’t sneak sawdust into it anymore) then let it land. I expected this one to go into the 90’s just from prior Ardbeg experience. I was wrong. Bart
