I think a detail about this hunt that goes unnoticed a lot of the time is that the weather also advances as you lower Fatalis' health starting out in rainy poor weather and ending up with the sun shining as you triumphantly stand over Fatalis' lifeless body. Great video!

Black had an interesting arena mechanic but the highlight was the variations, my favorite is the white one (MH2G/MHFU) although all in all MHW is my favorite version of Fatalis for its different mechanics. In Frontier there is some white variation where if it hits you with one of its lightning attack it kicks you from the quest, like it obliterates you on that particular quest lol
Monster Hunter is just one of those games with real magic, no other game can give you that feeling of over coming a boss like that. For me it was Alareon, I started playing MH in Tri when I was a kid and I'd always see videos of Alareon and sometimes endgame players would join my lobby and I'd see the gear, but I wasn't good enough at the time make it to him let alone HR, finding a lobby that wanted to do Jhen was tough for me, probably just unluck. For years I lived with never being able to fight this thing. But when they shown is trailer for Iceborne the first time on the livestream I knew that I'd finally have my chance to prove myself, and after those many attempts when I finally got the kill and the Tri fanfare played what a beautiful game such a highlight of my younger years, it might sounds cringe or sappy but I cried a bit

In my opinion I think Isshin is the perfect boss fight in all gaming. Everything you have learned up to that point is required to beat him with the constant "hesitation is defeat" line ringing so true. Plus once you finally beat him the rest of the game all of a sudden feels so easy, it just makes you feel like you've truly mastered the mechanics
Head openings are heavily dependent on your weapon, and the best way to figure out these moves and timings would be to watch speedruns, or at least showcases. A really useful tip however is to use the roaming ballista to only aim for the head. I recommend using a binder + the ballista, along with tenderizing the head beforehand. Even though the ballistae do more damage to the body, you're actually progressing him to phase 3 faster, without damaging the head that way. It's trap. Always fully unload in his head. Start of phase 2 is the best way to do it, since you have a binder right behind the cover, you can drive the roaming ballistae to the far left binder, bind Fatalis, then use the roaming freely.
In four player team hunt discord we Sleep Fatalis infront of the 2 dragonators, 20 % of his hp Juicy damage and just killed him after in the knock down. The moment we get dragonator if we sleep him there it's a fight ender
Man... soloing Fatalis was the proudest Ive ever been playing games. Even after hundreds, if not thousands of tries, Proof of A Hero playing after using the dragonator has never failed to hype up the fight. It really was the FINAL fight of World for me. Not long after completing the set and crafting the weapons, I hung up my armor and stopped. I was completely satisfied with the game and felt like Ive accomplished everything I wanted to do in World. What a way to get into the franchise. I cant wait for MH Wilds.
When the fatalis enters the third phase and the flames fill the entire arena, I think it's such a cool moment, and when proof of a hero starts playing, the first time I heard it, a tear of happiness and nostalgia came out lol. It's a very cool battle. Great Video, congrats. : )
Oh come the fuck on dude. Fatalis is a great fight, but 'no' bullshit design? You can't possibly unironically think something like, say, the tail hit boxes are even vaguely accurate or fair.

For the head breaks: it can be hard to hit the head if he’s standing on his hind legs and you’re not using Insect Glaive. To get him to go on all fours, there are a few strategies to do that. Standing on the ground a few meters/yards away from him directly in front, you can bait him into doing the cone of fire attack, which is a fairly decent opening. If he’s not enraged, doing a flinch shot will force him on all fours, and if he’s already on all fours, you can slam him into a wall for more damage. Hitting the belly enough times will make him do the flop attack where he falls onto the ground and gets up on all fours. He’ll also automatically do this attack if his belly breaks while he’s standing up. All other typical knockdowns and stuns will bring his head closer to the ground temporarily, like the siege weaponry knockdowns, the one-shot binder, paralysis, sleep, mount, etc. While he’s in one of these animations, you can’t actually break the head, but damage will still be accumulated toward the break. It will just never pass the threshold, so shooting a pod at the head after the knockdown can push the damage over the threshold and break the head.

Great video, I just beat him today after a lot of failed attempts and preparation. Hearing the proof of a hero song was like a final hope and I really loved what they did with this fight!
Congratulation on the kill after 3 years man, this guy IS kinda bullshit. I remember taking a day off work (a good advise from a friend) while he first debuted, and I can still remember the stress I felt when I can't defeat him that day. I did kill him eventually, after many table slam, and it felt sooo good...
Main tips I can give are some weapon ones which are IG, GS, LS can all hit the head with hard hitting moves when fatalis takes certain attacks such as the belly flop along with the bites, and for the attack where he holds his head low and sprays an area with flame, IG can land the aireal spike attack, sns can land perfect rush, and GS can land a TCS with slinger burst for good damage on all of them. Also LS can counter a lot of the wind pressure attacks with a little bit of practice for some easy damage, you can roll the roar just as he raises his head for it, and a perk that I like to run is free meal secret with 7 max potions to keep myself topped up along with fortify cus unless you are flawlessly hunting him you will probably cart once or twice and the defence buff can save you with the attack being very nice as well. Final tip is the weapons that I have found the most luck with for hunting him being swax and IG with a health augment swax + temp/rocksteady being able to spam the head with zero sum for consistent head breaks and IG while having not the best damage being pretty good and quite mobile allowing for easy escapes and punishes. Final note is every attack with a breath for flame such as his flamethrower n stuff being safe to cluch claw (appart from the odd jank moment) and fireballs will hit you if you clutch claw the head, most fireball attacks are quite predictable and as such pretty easy to get a small punish Also great video and happy hunting you covered just about every major point for the hunt
One tip for head openings is that by standing at medium distance, you can bait him into doing the cone breath. For a GS main like me, this attack is just basically free head dps
Yeah I got quite good at cone baiting but I'm a bit out of practice now, was going hunt him with hammer for the first time soon though so I'm sure baiting will be my priority
Also pro tip in fighting Fatalis; try to hit not the chest or head but the WINGS, having the beast stay grounded is a godsend Along with that, there’s another overlooked trick, tenderising the head BEFORE wallbanging actually increases the partbreak damage the head (or any tenderised parts) takes, making it easier to break
Despite failing for 3 days straight originally, I have now beaten Fatalis on my first attempt TWICE, once with Longsword and the second time with Switch Axe! Note: by first attempt; I mean I start the quest in a new playthrough and I go from the intro cutscene all the way to beating Fatalis without failing the quest
Definitely my favorite boss. I don't know how many times he killed me before I beat him, and I don't know how many times I farmed him. By the time I decided to solo him it was easy. Awesome fight.
From personal experience, maining Switch Axe, Dual Blades, Greatsword, Longsword - Greatsword is by far easiest to achieve head break with, it has inherent extra part break modifier. Best attack to punish is the one where he lowers his head to breathe the continuous cone of flame; he will do this attack only when standing on hind legs and when you are out of reach of his normal melee attack, so running around in front of him during phase 1 is easiest way to bait.
Regarding breaking his head much more easily: The strategy is known as cone baiting. You disable your palico (not necessary but helps a lot) and stand in front of Fatalis at a certain distance to bait his cone aoe attack which leaves his head vulnerable to attack. Repeat until break. I only do this to farm the head and eye parts as I lose a lot of dps by not being perfectly good at the baiting, but I see speedrunners doing this with very high success rate. Tip: he only does it when he stands tall on two legs not four, and the highest chance of him performing the cone attack is after a side-to-side flame attack which explodes the ground after a second, if you are in front of him at the correct distance when the flame explodes he will often do the cone attack.
I've been practicing cone bating a little bit since this video, im still really inconsistent at getting it but when I do get it right it's crazy broken!
Fatalis is one of the best fights in my Monster Hunter career. It's simple in terms of its movesets before phase 3, yet becoming one of the most difficult fights. The only problem I had with was that the required MR was only 24. Fatalis is currently my most hunted monster.
I've since got a lot of practice and want to keep pushing my time down, there's a lot of fun intracate mechanics in this fight that have been really fun to learn!
First of all if you enter a boss area and you start hearing what sounds like dark souls/bloodborne music get ready for a fight you will never forget. Little side not what makes fatalis sooo cool he is one of two monster in mhw whos biggest attack cuts the music The amount of fire coming out of that monster is insane, no matter how many times i fight him that attack will never get old
It's rlly funny how you made the comparison between Fatalis and Rathalos, because in the first Monster Hunter game, Fatalis' theme was actually just a remixed version of Rathalos' theme to represent the parallels between the two monsters.
ah yes fatalis, i played aerial IG against him in multiplayer, not having to deal with attacks aimed at my teammates+any fireballs targetted at me going into space really helps, on top of the obvious ~2 mounts per hunt. ofc, allowed me to target the head fulltime as well
That's the intangible stuff Capcom could give you having a patience and perseverance playing through monster hunter games. (many gamers don't want this game because they say it's difficult and has so many mechnics) You will level up as a player. Once you know know how to play the game doesn't matter which version of the game you play you will definitely be able to fight the monsters with some adjustments. I was an MHFU player was able to play mh 3rd but the psp version. Wasn't be able to play 3rd in 3ds and also the fourth one but the moment I played world I thought i need to relearn how to play but no. It's still there despite not playing the other games for many years. It's still there, there's some little adjustment yes, but the skill as a player is still in me. That's what playing MH games could do to you.
The overall knowledge and feel for the games for sure carry over despit different playstyles. I felt like such a better player coming back to world after grinding rise
for a tip, after you have broken his head and weakened his flames, the final 3 novas wont kill you if you are at full hp (with health augment 3, not sure about without). If you can full heal before the wind pressure hits you, you'll survive and can start healing again once you stand up to be safe. useful for when you cant make it to his position in time
His hitboxes are so wonky it´s ridiculous, hitting him with a melee weapon is difficult but when hes toenail comes anywhere near you it chunks 90% of your health. I managed to solo him but can´t bring myself to farm his evil eyes, even if you kill him the drop rate is low if you don´t break his head twice and don´t even bother trying this with randoms.
Yeah joining others SOS's is rough. I'm around half way to getting enough evil eyes for all weapons + their upgrades, i'm just taking my time with it I'm in no rush with a lot of time before Wilds
3 years later,Fatalis is still Fatal. I completed my Fatalis Full Set in 3 days all streamed on Twitch,like 6 kills but 10+ Fails before i Got all i need from Him,i Crafter his Cool Longsword The Zagesspannon first thing after First 2 Kills and Armor last.
There’s nothing scarier than Fatalis’ blue flame mode, he’s a literal walking, flying nuke with the power to obliterate a civilization. The way I beat Fatalis for the first time and an easier way to break his head is with frostcraft greatsword, leave your palico at camp and fight him solo, stand about 8-10 meters away and bait his cone breath attack. You can deal big damage to his head and break it to make the rest of the fight easier. Also when it’s time to use the dragonator you absolutely do not want to stand on the second floor waiting for Fatalis to come over to you. He will just stand at a distance and continue pelting you with fire attacks. There’s a couple ways to get him over to the dragonator. One is when he is flying after he finishes flying he dives toward you so stand near the dragonator. Another way is to tank his nova where he flies to the side of the arena opposite to the dragonator. Tank the fire and heal with a max potion just before the big explosion, as long as you’ve broken his head once you can survive this and stand up immediately after the big explosion as the rest of the fire doesn’t deal damage. He dives towards the dragonator then you can use it easily. Or you can stay on the bottom level and try to bait him over but that’s slower and not as consistent. He’s definitely an amazing final boss and a really well designed and rewarding monster
This monster is so good that the difficulty is the culmination of everything you learned throughout the game. Capcom really outdid themselves with this Fatalis fight.
he is one of the best fights in the game i have yet to solo but at one point i was very close but he ended me before i could also he is kinda hard with IG but i still use it
I love the cone attack with my frostcraft greatsword. I think AT velkhana is harder because I cant see the screen with all the ice exploding everywhere.
I think I would actually agree that AT Velkhana is more challenging, seemingly most moves oneshot me even with the Fatalis 4 piece bonus and shes much quicker than Fatalis. Maybe I just need more practice haha
The Wallbang damage counts as head damage towards the break. Do not waste a wallbang when he is standing. Heavy Artillery + Ghillie Mantle are your friends as well.
I've seen it a few times in a video, you can actually cheese the later nova breaths by eating a max potion before the ramp up part, it will knock you back giving you i-frames for the rest of it, I don't know the full logistics behind it sadly I just know it can be done, also Lance players and I'd assume as well Gunlance players can block his big cone flame breath attack and make a safe zone for people behind you (guard up may be required). also for the love of god, when the dragonator goes up don't baby sit it, he will just spam flame breaths and fireballs at you, his ai is very much aware
Yeah I've watched a few guides that included that, for sure can be useful if you get wind pressured and are too far to get over to Fatalis. A great tip that I probably should have mentioned!
something not said in the video fatalis has 2 modes standing on 2 legs and standing on 4 his moves change depending on the mode hes on when hes on 2 legs u can bait his fire cone but when hes on 4 he cant do it also when on 2 legs u cant shoot him at a wall he just falls on all 4 so dont do it when hes on 2 legs
against Fatalis IF you play Charge blade go into savage axe you can easily stay under his hind legs and not get hit much run fire immunity mantle and temporal making it a lot more fun to hunt him
I think it's funny how all these new players think Monster Hunter World and Rise are tough. Veterans remember the real struggle in earlier games. Anyway I've gone through the same thing with other games. I go back to playing a game months or years after I gave up and I end up surpassing where I left off.

for me, fatalis has a big flaw in his damage numbers and poor hitboxes, a lot of the damage he deals is actually physical, and has some questionable hitboxes, and deal a metric crap ton of damage, usually in the 80 to 90 percent health with health boost 3, this fight is a pure unforgiving skill and build check and you dont get to faint if you are solo i think world and iceborne suffered from its mmo aspect, its a great community, but it makes some fights straight up annoying to go alone, safi, kulve, fatalis in a sense, most of these fights have been designed with four players in mind and i usually hunt solo because i find it more enjoyable and the mistakes are my own.
Monster hunter was always designed for multi-player. Up until the world, everything in the hub was always scaled for two or more players, and back in the ps2 games everything had WAY more health because it was made for 4 players and it wasn't made for it to even be possible to solo anything
Other people make new save files so they can play from the start for videos. I make new save files because steam cloud services keep losing my files and I have to start fresh
Perhaps the only unfair thing about W:I Fatalis is how they nerfed shot type damage to its head compared to the previous games. It puts ranged weapons at a big disadvantage, so it can be a challenge for a solo range weapon player to get the double head break. It is my personal theory that even though WI Fatalis is doable solo, the devs intended it to be done in a party but didn't make it mandatory such as with Behemoth or the Kulve seige. It feels like they want people to form a party with a balance of range and melee users. Have ranged weapons hit its chest, giving melee users more opportunities to hit the head.
@ZennyHunter that NPC also uses a Heavy Bowgun. The First Wyvernians found in the maps would tell you how popular your equipped weapon type was when you talked to them. I remember shortly before Fatalis released the top 5 weapons were Longsword, Great Sword, Dual Blades, Bow and Charge Blade. I distinctly remember LS was nearly always 1st and me, being a bow main, remembers it went from 6th place to 4th. That was probably due to Master Rank Kulve releasing and people upgraded their Kjarr bows.
Iceborne Fatalis is a much better designed fight than Alatreon. There's a reason why I have over 50 solo kills and only 2 Alatreon kills. My first kill with Alatreon made me hate the game, my first kill with Fatalis ended up with me cheering and hugging my dog who was nearby
Alot of ppl still now as i like to help with fatalis and aletryon with light weapons wehn you try and wund he drops dragon pods you can shoot it at him and 2 hits will stagger him oute of any attack (exept the scripted ones ).
I missed out on fatalis, i got distracted by other games and friends stopped playing when he came out, i wanted to come back and beat him, but my PS4 had other plans and decided to kill itself so I lost my save. I got the game recently on PC and I plan to try him. I was able to solo Alaatreon so I could probably figure this out with some practice, i have heard the fight is biased towards certain weapons though, is he doable with hammer?
He's for sure doable with all weapons, you can learn a lot of the timings/openings from watching speedruns with your respective weapon (thats what I did anyway)
Haha I'll take that comparison as a compliment, I agree he's not perfect mechanic wise but in terms of feeling and atmosphere he has to be pretty close IMO
Veteran hunter here, tips for breaking the head before phase 3, this requires feyline bombadier and heavy artillery lv2 as the start of phase 2 grab the binders on the right near where you took cover from the first nova, (This next step is easier with smoke bombs) Make sure his head is weakened before you do this and he's enraged, Use the binder on him and use the roaming ballista. Right after and unload the full clip into his face, If you were doing any damage to his head in first phase, this will most likely break his head, or do major damage to it, When you reach third phase run to the right and grab the second binder and use it on him, After all that His head should be very close to or at the second headbreak threshold. (For those of you who bring partbreaker, keep in mind that part breaker DOES NOT work for the second hedbreak) Edit: If you're really struggling with staying alive and you're using things like feyline safegaurd or insurance, Then take those instead of bombadier. More lives is more important than a little bit more damage.
Idk why I watch these videos. I'm already a very unskilled hunter, and recently just starting out my journey through World. And I gotta be honest with you, this does not fill me with confidence. It feels like those lieutenants in the army who dispatch you and tell you that you're going to die, and yell it at your face, smearing the spit on you and everything.

I like there are no perfect monster, each one have it flaw and fun point to fight, but fatalis with only 30m to fight (large health pool is fine, its hard is fine) and terrible ai for solo player is what i dislike, its the final boss, it shouldn't be rush.
I do actually think AT velky is harder in my experience. Fatalis wraps up the story of game in a grandeur way however where as AT velky feels like a fun challenge added to keep players busy
He isnt, only delusional fatalis fans think he is, alatreon curbstomps fatalis in every way shape or form as a monster and a final boss lore/gameplay wise
Just to get a better understanding, would you mind breaking down a couple reasons you dislike him? I plan to revisit Icebourne as a whole retrospective in the future so your opinion is for sure valuable to hear
@@ZennyHunter -Powercreep Armor and weapons that destroyed the entire setbuilding that World had, making it way less replayable. The game kinda gets boring after Fatalis, because what do you do now? I guess you can fight AT Velkhana, but aside from that? Not really much. There's nothing really to do after Fatalis, cause you just craft his gear and win. There are only very specific circumstances where his armor is beaten out by AT Velkhana or Safi, but only in terms of damage. In terms or comfort, he is always the top choice, no matter what. -Pretty bad hitboxes, which is inexcusable for the amount of damage he does. If he does loads of damage, I atleast expect to only take that damage when I actually get hit. This is especially a problem because he came right after Alatreon, a monster that everyone can agree to have the best hitboxes in the entire game, making Fatalis hitboxes show even more flaws. -The 30 minute time limit is just artificial difficulty. It doesn't add anything to the hunt aside from making sure that only max optimised builds can clear him on a first hunt, which is even dumber when you realise that he is available at MR24, so a lot of people won't have optimised setups by that point or even good enough offensive focused decos. But that's more a problem with the deco system in World. -He feels like a real afterthought in the story. He just shows up out of nowhere with zero explanation, which is kinda lazy. Safi was amazing story wise since he had ties back the Base World story, but Fatalis just exists for the sake of existing. Made me feel very much not invested in the whole "this is the arch enemy of all hunters" thing. -He straight up punishes you for playing ranged. So, you know how you need to break his head in order to progress to phase 3 without the blue flames? Sounds simple enough, the game clearly wants you to focus on the head. That must mean it's clearly a weakpoint. Seems like that checks out, the untenderized hitzone for the head for blunt and cutting damage is both 75, so let's look at ranged. The untenderized hitzone for ranged is 33. This gets even worse when you find out that the tenderized hitzone is 44. And you know at which hitzone values weakness exploit starts to work? 45 This is just a straight up middlefinger to ranged players, making it so the head is such a low hitzone that you shouldn't even bother shooting at it. Oh well, I guess it's intentional game design for ranged players to get instantly killed by every single attack in phase 3. Yeah, not very good design. Lastly, some minor and more my personal problems: -His flying animations look extremly unrealistic and honestly look like they just slapped the high res model on his MH1 flying animations. He even straight up floats without flapping his wings during his novas. -His design is really boring. I get that's the point, but it still doesn't look very good, atleast in my opinion. -He has a lot of pretty obnoxious fans and some elitists that defend everything about him, even the obviously bad design choices. Express your critique about him. 90% of the time, you will get "skill issue!" in return. Just makes expressing your own thoughts very needlessly frustrating. Hope I could provide a good insight as to why I really, really don't like Fatalis.

I'm pretty sure Fatalis was released as a bonus that was never realy planned due to covid (might be wrong on that but that's what I remember), if anything I think Fatalis was meant to be send of to an already complete game which is why we have the stupidly good armour for example. I agree that the fight itself has some bs hitboxes and random combos that ruin the fight which could have been ironed out for sure. Maybe we'll see him back in Wilds with an improved fight!
Depending on build Malenia can be a joke, assuming you aren't over leveled/geared though you are for sure correct. It took me around 8 hours of trying for my first malenia kill

However its so easy to run at her with blasphemous blade as one of many examples and just stun lock her untill she dies. There is a cheese speed run strat like that for fatalis but in general there's no "giga op build" to cruise through him

For me it was Alareon, I started playing MH in Tri when I was a kid and I'd always see videos of Alareon and sometimes endgame players would join my lobby and I'd see the gear, but I wasn't good enough at the time make it to him let alone HR, finding a lobby that wanted to do Jhen was tough for me, probably just unluck. For years I lived with never being able to fight this thing. But when they shown is trailer for Iceborne the first time on the livestream I knew that I'd finally have my chance to prove myself, and after those many attempts when I finally got the kill and the Tri fanfare played what a beautiful game such a highlight of my younger years, it might sounds cringe or sappy but I cried a bit
It truly is a special feeling, for me the community being so positive adds to it a whole bunch. I keep telling myself these videos will just bomb with no views but always end up making their way to peoples homepages, thanks for watching!

The 2 moments I'll never forget from all my gaming, beating Isshin the Sword Saint and soloing Fatalis.
In my opinion I think Isshin is the perfect boss fight in all gaming. Everything you have learned up to that point is required to beat him with the constant "hesitation is defeat" line ringing so true. Plus once you finally beat him the rest of the game all of a sudden feels so easy, it just makes you feel like you've truly mastered the mechanics
Head openings are heavily dependent on your weapon, and the best way to figure out these moves and timings would be to watch speedruns, or at least showcases.
A really useful tip however is to use the roaming ballista to only aim for the head. I recommend using a binder + the ballista, along with tenderizing the head beforehand.
Even though the ballistae do more damage to the body, you're actually progressing him to phase 3 faster, without damaging the head that way. It's trap. Always fully unload in his head. Start of phase 2 is the best way to do it, since you have a binder right behind the cover, you can drive the roaming ballistae to the far left binder, bind Fatalis, then use the roaming freely.
As a heavy bowgun main I couldn't break head I had to beat him without breaking head
In four player team hunt discord we Sleep Fatalis infront of the 2 dragonators, 20 % of his hp Juicy damage and just killed him after in the knock down. The moment we get dragonator if we sleep him there it's a fight ender
Man... soloing Fatalis was the proudest Ive ever been playing games. Even after hundreds, if not thousands of tries, Proof of A Hero playing after using the dragonator has never failed to hype up the fight. It really was the FINAL fight of World for me. Not long after completing the set and crafting the weapons, I hung up my armor and stopped. I was completely satisfied with the game and felt like Ive accomplished everything I wanted to do in World. What a way to get into the franchise. I cant wait for MH Wilds.

When the fatalis enters the third phase and the flames fill the entire arena, I think it's such a cool moment, and when proof of a hero starts playing, the first time I heard it, a tear of happiness and nostalgia came out lol. It's a very cool battle.

For the head breaks: it can be hard to hit the head if he’s standing on his hind legs and you’re not using Insect Glaive. To get him to go on all fours, there are a few strategies to do that.
Standing on the ground a few meters/yards away from him directly in front, you can bait him into doing the cone of fire attack, which is a fairly decent opening.
If he’s not enraged, doing a flinch shot will force him on all fours, and if he’s already on all fours, you can slam him into a wall for more damage.
Hitting the belly enough times will make him do the flop attack where he falls onto the ground and gets up on all fours. He’ll also automatically do this attack if his belly breaks while he’s standing up.
All other typical knockdowns and stuns will bring his head closer to the ground temporarily, like the siege weaponry knockdowns, the one-shot binder, paralysis, sleep, mount, etc. While he’s in one of these animations, you can’t actually break the head, but damage will still be accumulated toward the break. It will just never pass the threshold, so shooting a pod at the head after the knockdown can push the damage over the threshold and break the head.
As a SA main, I was superbly happy that ZSD existed because I don’t think I could consistently deal those head damages without it.

Ya man when I beat alatreon in 10 years I’m looking forward to this
Congratulation on the kill after 3 years man, this guy IS kinda bullshit. I remember taking a day off work (a good advise from a friend) while he first debuted, and I can still remember the stress I felt when I can't defeat him that day. I did kill him eventually, after many table slam, and it felt sooo good...
Main tips I can give are some weapon ones which are IG, GS, LS can all hit the head with hard hitting moves when fatalis takes certain attacks such as the belly flop along with the bites, and for the attack where he holds his head low and sprays an area with flame, IG can land the aireal spike attack, sns can land perfect rush, and GS can land a TCS with slinger burst for good damage on all of them. Also LS can counter a lot of the wind pressure attacks with a little bit of practice for some easy damage, you can roll the roar just as he raises his head for it, and a perk that I like to run is free meal secret with 7 max potions to keep myself topped up along with fortify cus unless you are flawlessly hunting him you will probably cart once or twice and the defence buff can save you with the attack being very nice as well. Final tip is the weapons that I have found the most luck with for hunting him being swax and IG with a health augment swax + temp/rocksteady being able to spam the head with zero sum for consistent head breaks and IG while having not the best damage being pretty good and quite mobile allowing for easy escapes and punishes. Final note is every attack with a breath for flame such as his flamethrower n stuff being safe to cluch claw (appart from the odd jank moment) and fireballs will hit you if you clutch claw the head, most fireball attacks are quite predictable and as such pretty easy to get a small punish

Yeah I got quite good at cone baiting but I'm a bit out of practice now, was going hunt him with hammer for the first time soon though so I'm sure baiting will be my priority
Also pro tip in fighting Fatalis; try to hit not the chest or head but the WINGS, having the beast stay grounded is a godsend
Along with that, there’s another overlooked trick, tenderising the head BEFORE wallbanging actually increases the partbreak damage the head (or any tenderised parts) takes, making it easier to break

Despite failing for 3 days straight originally, I have now beaten Fatalis on my first attempt TWICE, once with Longsword and the second time with Switch Axe!
Note: by first attempt; I mean I start the quest in a new playthrough and I go from the intro cutscene all the way to beating Fatalis without failing the quest

Definitely my favorite boss. I don't know how many times he killed me before I beat him, and I don't know how many times I farmed him. By the time I decided to solo him it was easy. Awesome fight.
From personal experience, maining Switch Axe, Dual Blades, Greatsword, Longsword - Greatsword is by far easiest to achieve head break with, it has inherent extra part break modifier. Best attack to punish is the one where he lowers his head to breathe the continuous cone of flame; he will do this attack only when standing on hind legs and when you are out of reach of his normal melee attack, so running around in front of him during phase 1 is easiest way to bait.
Regarding breaking his head much more easily: The strategy is known as cone baiting. You disable your palico (not necessary but helps a lot) and stand in front of Fatalis at a certain distance to bait his cone aoe attack which leaves his head vulnerable to attack. Repeat until break. I only do this to farm the head and eye parts as I lose a lot of dps by not being perfectly good at the baiting, but I see speedrunners doing this with very high success rate.
Tip: he only does it when he stands tall on two legs not four, and the highest chance of him performing the cone attack is after a side-to-side flame attack which explodes the ground after a second, if you are in front of him at the correct distance when the flame explodes he will often do the cone attack.
I've been practicing cone bating a little bit since this video, im still really inconsistent at getting it but when I do get it right it's crazy broken!
Fatalis is one of the best fights in my Monster Hunter career. It's simple in terms of its movesets before phase 3, yet becoming one of the most difficult fights. The only problem I had with was that the required MR was only 24. Fatalis is currently my most hunted monster.

First of all if you enter a boss area and you start hearing what sounds like dark souls/bloodborne music get ready for a fight you will never forget. Little side not what makes fatalis sooo cool he is one of two monster in mhw whos biggest attack cuts the music

It's rlly funny how you made the comparison between Fatalis and Rathalos, because in the first Monster Hunter game, Fatalis' theme was actually just a remixed version of Rathalos' theme to represent the parallels between the two monsters.

ah yes fatalis, i played aerial IG against him in multiplayer, not having to deal with attacks aimed at my teammates+any fireballs targetted at me going into space really helps, on top of the obvious ~2 mounts per hunt.

That's the intangible stuff Capcom could give you having a patience and perseverance playing through monster hunter games. (many gamers don't want this game because they say it's difficult and has so many mechnics) You will level up as a player. Once you know know how to play the game doesn't matter which version of the game you play you will definitely be able to fight the monsters with some adjustments. I was an MHFU player was able to play mh 3rd but the psp version. Wasn't be able to play 3rd in 3ds and also the fourth one but the moment I played world I thought i need to relearn how to play but no. It's still there despite not playing the other games for many years. It's still there, there's some little adjustment yes, but the skill as a player is still in me. That's what playing MH games could do to you.
The overall knowledge and feel for the games for sure carry over despit different playstyles. I felt like such a better player coming back to world after grinding rise
Parts that are tenderized will also take massive damage from wall bangs

for a tip, after you have broken his head and weakened his flames, the final 3 novas wont kill you if you are at full hp (with health augment 3, not sure about without). If you can full heal before the wind pressure hits you, you'll survive and can start healing again once you stand up to be safe. useful for when you cant make it to his position in time

His hitboxes are so wonky it´s ridiculous, hitting him with a melee weapon is difficult but when hes toenail comes anywhere near you it chunks 90% of your health. I managed to solo him but can´t bring myself to farm his evil eyes, even if you kill him the drop rate is low if you don´t break his head twice and don´t even bother trying this with randoms.
Yeah joining others SOS's is rough. I'm around half way to getting enough evil eyes for all weapons + their upgrades, i'm just taking my time with it I'm in no rush with a lot of time before Wilds
3 years later,Fatalis is still Fatal. I completed my Fatalis Full Set in 3 days all streamed on Twitch,like 6 kills but 10+ Fails before i Got all i need from Him,i Crafter his Cool Longsword The Zagesspannon first thing after First 2 Kills and Armor last.

I've sice had a terrible time trying to hunt him in multiplayer haha, I always give up and just play solo instead
There’s nothing scarier than Fatalis’ blue flame mode, he’s a literal walking, flying nuke with the power to obliterate a civilization. The way I beat Fatalis for the first time and an easier way to break his head is with frostcraft greatsword, leave your palico at camp and fight him solo, stand about 8-10 meters away and bait his cone breath attack. You can deal big damage to his head and break it to make the rest of the fight easier.
Also when it’s time to use the dragonator you absolutely do not want to stand on the second floor waiting for Fatalis to come over to you. He will just stand at a distance and continue pelting you with fire attacks. There’s a couple ways to get him over to the dragonator. One is when he is flying after he finishes flying he dives toward you so stand near the dragonator. Another way is to tank his nova where he flies to the side of the arena opposite to the dragonator. Tank the fire and heal with a max potion just before the big explosion, as long as you’ve broken his head once you can survive this and stand up immediately after the big explosion as the rest of the fire doesn’t deal damage. He dives towards the dragonator then you can use it easily. Or you can stay on the bottom level and try to bait him over but that’s slower and not as consistent.
He’s definitely an amazing final boss and a really well designed and rewarding monster

I think I would actually agree that AT Velkhana is more challenging, seemingly most moves oneshot me even with the Fatalis 4 piece bonus and shes much quicker than Fatalis. Maybe I just need more practice haha

The Wallbang damage counts as head damage towards the break. Do not waste a wallbang when he is standing. Heavy Artillery + Ghillie Mantle are your friends as well.
I've seen it a few times in a video, you can actually cheese the later nova breaths by eating a max potion before the ramp up part, it will knock you back giving you i-frames for the rest of it, I don't know the full logistics behind it sadly I just know it can be done, also Lance players and I'd assume as well Gunlance players can block his big cone flame breath attack and make a safe zone for people behind you (guard up may be required). also for the love of god, when the dragonator goes up don't baby sit it, he will just spam flame breaths and fireballs at you, his ai is very much aware

something not said in the video fatalis has 2 modes standing on 2 legs and standing on 4 his moves change depending on the mode hes on when hes on 2 legs u can bait his fire cone but when hes on 4 he cant do it also when on 2 legs u cant shoot him at a wall he just falls on all 4 so dont do it when hes on 2 legs
against Fatalis IF you play Charge blade go into savage axe you can easily stay under his hind legs and not get hit much run fire immunity mantle and temporal making it a lot more fun to hunt him
I think it's funny how all these new players think Monster Hunter World and Rise are tough. Veterans remember the real struggle in earlier games. Anyway I've gone through the same thing with other games. I go back to playing a game months or years after I gave up and I end up surpassing where I left off.

for me, fatalis has a big flaw in his damage numbers and poor hitboxes, a lot of the damage he deals is actually physical, and has some questionable hitboxes, and deal a metric crap ton of damage, usually in the 80 to 90 percent health with health boost 3, this fight is a pure unforgiving skill and build check and you dont get to faint if you are solo
i think world and iceborne suffered from its mmo aspect, its a great community, but it makes some fights straight up annoying to go alone, safi, kulve, fatalis in a sense, most of these fights have been designed with four players in mind and i usually hunt solo because i find it more enjoyable and the mistakes are my own.
I find myself getting stuck on him a lot due to his size, it can really mess you up in certain situations
Monster hunter was always designed for multi-player. Up until the world, everything in the hub was always scaled for two or more players, and back in the ps2 games everything had WAY more health because it was made for 4 players and it wasn't made for it to even be possible to solo anything
Other people make new save files so they can play from the start for videos.
I make new save files because steam cloud services keep losing my files and I have to start fresh
Perhaps the only unfair thing about W:I Fatalis is how they nerfed shot type damage to its head compared to the previous games.
It puts ranged weapons at a big disadvantage, so it can be a challenge for a solo range weapon player to get the double head break.
It is my personal theory that even though WI Fatalis is doable solo, the devs intended it to be done in a party but didn't make it mandatory such as with Behemoth or the Kulve seige.
It feels like they want people to form a party with a balance of range and melee users.
Have ranged weapons hit its chest, giving melee users more opportunities to hit the head.
I like your theoy and certainly makes sense, the initial quest intro afterall has you fighting alongside NPC's

The First Wyvernians found in the maps would tell you how popular your equipped weapon type was when you talked to them.
I remember shortly before Fatalis released the top 5 weapons were Longsword, Great Sword, Dual Blades, Bow and Charge Blade.
I distinctly remember LS was nearly always 1st and me, being a bow main, remembers it went from 6th place to 4th.
That was probably due to Master Rank Kulve releasing and people upgraded their Kjarr bows.

Iceborne Fatalis is a much better designed fight than Alatreon. There's a reason why I have over 50 solo kills and only 2 Alatreon kills.
My first kill with Alatreon made me hate the game, my first kill with Fatalis ended up with me cheering and hugging my dog who was nearby

You should shoot Fatalis's head with roaming balista, not chest. Makes the head break much easier.
Alot of ppl still now as i like to help with fatalis and aletryon with light weapons wehn you try and wund he drops dragon pods you can shoot it at him and 2 hits will stagger him oute of any attack (exept the scripted ones ).
I missed out on fatalis, i got distracted by other games and friends stopped playing when he came out, i wanted to come back and beat him, but my PS4 had other plans and decided to kill itself so I lost my save. I got the game recently on PC and I plan to try him. I was able to solo Alaatreon so I could probably figure this out with some practice, i have heard the fight is biased towards certain weapons though, is he doable with hammer?
He's for sure doable with all weapons, you can learn a lot of the timings/openings from watching speedruns with your respective weapon (thats what I did anyway)
No, its not the perfect boss fight vati vidia. But it is pretty dang good. His older version fights are pretty ruff too.

Veteran hunter here, tips for breaking the head before phase 3, this requires feyline bombadier and heavy artillery lv2 as the start of phase 2 grab the binders on the right near where you took cover from the first nova, (This next step is easier with smoke bombs) Make sure his head is weakened before you do this and he's enraged, Use the binder on him and use the roaming ballista. Right after and unload the full clip into his face, If you were doing any damage to his head in first phase, this will most likely break his head, or do major damage to it, When you reach third phase run to the right and grab the second binder and use it on him, After all that His head should be very close to or at the second headbreak threshold. (For those of you who bring partbreaker, keep in mind that part breaker DOES NOT work for the second hedbreak)
Edit: If you're really struggling with staying alive and you're using things like feyline safegaurd or insurance, Then take those instead of bombadier. More lives is more important than a little bit more damage.

Idk why I watch these videos. I'm already a very unskilled hunter, and recently just starting out my journey through World. And I gotta be honest with you, this does not fill me with confidence. It feels like those lieutenants in the army who dispatch you and tell you that you're going to die, and yell it at your face, smearing the spit on you and everything.

I like there are no perfect monster, each one have it flaw and fun point to fight, but fatalis with only 30m to fight (large health pool is fine, its hard is fine) and terrible ai for solo player is what i dislike, its the final boss, it shouldn't be rush.
Fatalis fight is farrrrrr superior over Amatsu in MhR Sunbreak.

I do actually think AT velky is harder in my experience. Fatalis wraps up the story of game in a grandeur way however where as AT velky feels like a fun challenge added to keep players busy

-Powercreep Armor and weapons that destroyed the entire setbuilding that World had, making it way less replayable. The game kinda gets boring after Fatalis, because what do you do now? I guess you can fight AT Velkhana, but aside from that? Not really much. There's nothing really to do after Fatalis, cause you just craft his gear and win. There are only very specific circumstances where his armor is beaten out by AT Velkhana or Safi, but only in terms of damage. In terms or comfort, he is always the top choice, no matter what.
-Pretty bad hitboxes, which is inexcusable for the amount of damage he does. If he does loads of damage, I atleast expect to only take that damage when I actually get hit. This is especially a problem because he came right after Alatreon, a monster that everyone can agree to have the best hitboxes in the entire game, making Fatalis hitboxes show even more flaws.
-The 30 minute time limit is just artificial difficulty. It doesn't add anything to the hunt aside from making sure that only max optimised builds can clear him on a first hunt, which is even dumber when you realise that he is available at MR24, so a lot of people won't have optimised setups by that point or even good enough offensive focused decos. But that's more a problem with the deco system in World.
-He feels like a real afterthought in the story. He just shows up out of nowhere with zero explanation, which is kinda lazy. Safi was amazing story wise since he had ties back the Base World story, but Fatalis just exists for the sake of existing. Made me feel very much not invested in the whole "this is the arch enemy of all hunters" thing.
-He straight up punishes you for playing ranged. So, you know how you need to break his head in order to progress to phase 3 without the blue flames? Sounds simple enough, the game clearly wants you to focus on the head. That must mean it's clearly a weakpoint. Seems like that checks out, the untenderized hitzone for the head for blunt and cutting damage is both 75, so let's look at ranged.
The untenderized hitzone for ranged is 33.
This gets even worse when you find out that the tenderized hitzone is 44. And you know at which hitzone values weakness exploit starts to work?

This is just a straight up middlefinger to ranged players, making it so the head is such a low hitzone that you shouldn't even bother shooting at it. Oh well, I guess it's intentional game design for ranged players to get instantly killed by every single attack in phase 3.
Yeah, not very good design.
Lastly, some minor and more my personal problems:
-His flying animations look extremly unrealistic and honestly look like they just slapped the high res model on his MH1 flying animations. He even straight up floats without flapping his wings during his novas.
-His design is really boring. I get that's the point, but it still doesn't look very good, atleast in my opinion.
-He has a lot of pretty obnoxious fans and some elitists that defend everything about him, even the obviously bad design choices. Express your critique about him. 90% of the time, you will get "skill issue!" in return. Just makes expressing your own thoughts very needlessly frustrating.
Hope I could provide a good insight as to why I really, really don't like Fatalis.

I'm pretty sure Fatalis was released as a bonus that was never realy planned due to covid (might be wrong on that but that's what I remember), if anything I think Fatalis was meant to be send of to an already complete game which is why we have the stupidly good armour for example.
I agree that the fight itself has some bs hitboxes and random combos that ruin the fight which could have been ironed out for sure.
Maybe we'll see him back in Wilds with an improved fight!

Depending on build Malenia can be a joke, assuming you aren't over leveled/geared though you are for sure correct. It took me around 8 hours of trying for my first malenia kill

I'm saying in a "fair" fight yes she is one of the hardest of all time, harder than fatalis . However its so easy to run at her with blasphemous blade as one of many examples and just stun lock her untill she dies. There is a cheese speed run strat like that for fatalis but in general there's no "giga op build" to cruise through him
