I have no biological connection to this child and still, when he said he was scared, my immediate reaction was to cuddle him and explain to him what was going on. Feel free to parent the way you want but I could never do something like that.

The way she was behaving almost looked like an anxiety attack. I think the mom should have empathized with her and reassure her everything was going to be ok without dismissing her concerns. If she wad already feeling anxious, she shouldn’t be drinking coke.

That first kid is right. Very much something he learned from his parents and I agree. Poor kiddos, nurses and people don't realize traumatic experiences can become great fears. Explaining and putting the patient at ease is essential.

No I think she was just confused because the doctor pricked her finger to get blood but she didn't know why and her mom didn't give her a real answer. I know when I was that little girl's age if my mom told me "They just needed your blood." I would be horrified and think they were vampires. I don't think it's such a serious thing since she is so young. I mean imagine being 4x smaller than everybody in your room and having somebody come in, talk to your mother, take some of your blood, and leave. I do agree with you on the last part though. It was concerning watching the mother just ignore that her child was that confused and upset.

You need to let your kid experience some things in life so they can grow up tough and not expect someone to be there for them everytime something gets rough. The mother explained clearly it was for the doctors to see everything was going well and the wound was already healed with a bandaid. She wasn't gonna die.

Or if you can't bring yourself to comfort them, at least validate their feelings. Telling them that something doesn't hurt when they are the ones experiencing it, is bullshit. Yes, this effects kids. i used to be scared and i got over it the next month or so.
It can go away over time if handled the right way but the mom wasn't helping her at all by dismissing her feelings and telling her what she shouldn't feel(scared).

@@twosnakesonesword3299 That's exactly what you do. You tell them that they're being ridiculous. Tell them enough and they will feel ridiculous for being scared. You don't coddle unnecessary fears. You don't 'aw baby are you okaaaaaay?' That turns kids into oversensitive unbalanced people. Kind of like the people who are claiming this kid will be 'traumatised' from a booboo at the doctors.
You people aren't psychologists or pedagogues. Children are incredibly survivable. Stop treating them like they'll turn into emotional wrecks (like yourselves) from having a normal childhood.
