A few years ago when I was looking into the ND2, i watched a ton of videos (including your review!), i notice every single reviewer had one thing in common: You were all smiling and giggling during the drive. That was enough to convince me to go ahead and get a new 2021 ND2 RF Grand Touring in red. Ive only realized last year that I've been daily driving the ND2 much, much more than my actual daily driver lol. Great review as always from a car loving enthusiast's POV.
What a great review! Your last segment talking about how we all end up back in the Miata is spot on. I officially started my car enthusiast career back when the NB was new. Now with over a dozen Porsches under my belt along with a 997.2 GT3 RS still in my garage, I have an ND3 Miata on order. For simple and pure driving fun, few can come close at any price. It really does help us enthusiasts focus on the joy of driving.
As a ND2 RF, BRZ, and Cayman GTS 4.0 owner, I have to say the Miata is still such a special experience every time I drive it. Gonna try to hold on to it for as long as I can.
Very cool! Could you give us a rundown of what you like and dislike about each of your cars. I'm currently thinking of getting a BRZ tS as my sole daily driver and would love to know how you like yours.
@@hotpancakes101 Of course! The BRZ is a great daily (it’s my daily of the 3 cars). The BRZ is practical, easy to slide around in the rain and snow, it’s a car you don’t think too much about daily driving. The biggest issue (especially if you drive the other 2 cars back to back with the BRZ) is that the throttle response delay and the rev hang ruins the experience a bit. It’s not a deal breaker and you can get used to it but these tuning imperfections make it feel a like a cheaper car than the Miata when it comes to driver input and feedback. I am running the pedal commander in the BRZ that The Topher recommended and it solves 50% of the issue. I love the driver input in the Miata. The throttle response is excellent, the shifter is very positive, I have the BBS brembo so the brakes feels better than the BRZ. However, its downside is that I don’t feel as safe sliding it around on the road for the exact reason Chris mentions in this video (since mine is a ND2). I treat the Miata as a top down relaxed weekend car. The Cayman is the most serious of the 3. You sit lower even compared to the BRZ and the Miata (I have the carbon buckets). Surprisingly, the cayman GTS has longer clutch travel and longer throw to the shifter (compared to the BRZ). Combined with the light flywheel, I have to shift quickly to catch the rev drop on the upshift. It’s amazing for sporty driving but it’s difficult to drive it in a relaxed manner. But the flat 6 almost 8000rpm is hard to beat. All is to say, despite all 3 being RWD manual sports cars, they are very different from each other. But I can assure you that they all provide some of the best driving experiences you can get in this day and age.
@davidyang8817 did you choose between a BRZ and GR86 or was there not even a conversation about it? I like your in-depth explanation on your 3 cars. Thanks for that.
Not for my money. I'd opt for the GT every time. In fact, I did just purchase my 2nd Miata GT. The Club with BBR package doesn't offer any measurable performance advantage, so I'd rather have the extra features of the GT.
Not to mention the little trunk accent, and the more aggressive splitter and side skirts - with the black wheels on red calipers its a massive visual upgrade. I'm so used to seeing it on mine that seeing one on the road without the upgrades looks naked
I have a 2024 ND3 Miata Club in Snowflake pearl and I absolutely love it, it’s gorgeous with the pearl against be piano black accents of the mirror caps, spoiler and wheels! I have ordered a set of gloss black emblems to replace the chrome and think it will really tie it all together very well! I am only at about 1600 miles currently and I’ve done an initial oil change at 850 miles with 5w30 Pennzoil ultra platinum and swapped out the manual transmission fluid at 1450 miles for the Ford XT-M5-QS full synthetic fluid that’s supposed to be far superior to the original fluid! I plan to do an exhaust upgrade and get something with a little better sound, as that’s really my only complaint so far! If you’re a true car lover and driver,I urge you to go and take a drive in the ND3 Miata, it’s the most fun you can legally have on the road and for just north of $30k it can’t be beat!
Got mine 6 days ago (GT softtop). Most fun car I’ve ever had in my life. The LSD is working very well, gives the platform a solid, neutral, balanced character. In wet conditions, you have to respect this car as it may still step out on you. But hey, that’s part of the fun. KPC helps to reduce body roll, but there’s still plenty of it. Might be slightly better in the Club version, with the Bilstein dampers. You feel the car settle into the corner, but once it’s there it’s very stable, with spades of grip. Top down on the highway, the fun ends for me at approximately 85 mph, above that it becomes rather uncomfortable. With the top up, I was actually quite pleasantly surprised with the noise levels. OK, it’s not exactly a silently whispering car but if that’s what you expect - don’t buy a Miata. I don’t feel the desire for more power or torque, the power train delivers exquisitely in this lightweight vehicle. This is all about fun, and it’s got that in abundance.
Your GT has the same Bilstein dampers, spring rates, shock tower brace, KPC, and LSD as the Club version. Identical parts. Identical body roll. The only difference with the Club is that it offers the option of the BBS/Brembo/Recaro package for an additional $4800, making the Club with that package a lot more expensive than a GT.
@@Christianfire18His GT has KPC, which means it’s a 2022 model or newer, so it definitely has the same Bilsteins and overall suspension setup as a Club.
Hey Topher! I finally got my own Miata this year. Got a 2022 GT. It’s so much fun to drive. Been my dream car for a long time and I’m enjoying every minute I’m in it. Thank you for all the Miata vids to push me to get my own 👍

2004 Mazdaspeed owner here. I test drove a 2024 RF GT with the auto over the weekend (was lucky the local dealer had anything in stock so beggars aren't choosers) and was absolutely shocked by how much more comfortable the ride in the 2024 is compared to the 2004. Now, my Speed is almost all original, so mostly 20 year old suspension that could use a refresh, but it was utterly night and day, comfort wise. Always amused by current reviewers saying it's not a comfortable ride compared to a Lexus or whatever. It felt like a luxury car compared to my MSM on 205/50R15 RE-71R tires. Thanks for this great review. Definitely helping the buying decision!
Traded my GR86 in for a 2024 ND3 Club. The GR86 was great but i almost can't believe how much more fun the Miata is. The clutch-shifter-throttle calibration is perfection, genuinely crazy good.
@@metalmystic6214 I'd say top up it's slightly noisier but not unbearable for daily duty. Not a massive difference imo. Top down obviously it's much noisier. I use concert noise-reduction earplugs if i am going to do long freeway journeys.

This is EXACTLY the Miata I want. ND3 Club in Soul Red with BBS/Brembo/Recaro pack. I've got an ND1 GT right now and I am just waiting until mine is paid off to trade for one of these.
Picked up my '24 Club softtop with Brembo, BBS, and Recaro package about a month ago. Had a 2020 model (same spec) that I sold in 2022 to try something different but ended up coming back to the Miata. Love the car, and I've already done some things to address the issues I don't like (exhaust, coilovers, swaybars, etc.). Fantastic car that's one of the most enjoyable I've ever owned.
I love my 23 RF Club, and I love their dedication to continuing to better the platform. Its fun to get groceries - even more so if the parking lot is empty! Excited to see what the NE generation ends up being, I have faith that they'll do it right.
even though the car is not exactly for me, I can't help but talk about the things I do like, 1 very good tech implantation I like how its not obnoxious and is subtle the gauges and speedometer and what not are real and not a unnecessary screen. also its manual which is very nice. The car looks pretty and looks like its fun to drive. Mazda seems to know why people buy Miata's and sticks with that which makes me glad.
I have a 2023 RF club and you are definitely right. It's for around town or track. I made a 2 hour drive each way the other day and was pretty sore after 😅. Mostly in the legs.
I can handle multiple hours, even 6+ a day in this car. But those long drives will include ear plugs. It's pretty much a regular car with ear plugs. I like the seats (cloth).
Getting late in the year to get a MX-5 ordered (none at local dealerships) but 2025 will be the year. I expect not major changes into that year but maybe they will offer another color. Great review of the car!
Great review. I love the POV camera. We don't get those beautiful seats in Australia sadly. Also you guys in California are so lucky you don't have to put a licence plate on the front - it looks so much better.
I placed an order for the 2024 club in snowflake white. I grew up riding and driving in clapped out 30 year old trucks, so any complaints about the miata makes it seem like a luxury vehicle to me
Want one of these ND3’s soooooooooooooooo badly. Though would probably go for a Grand Touring with the tan interior personally. Maybe even wrap it BRG!
I still feel like it should come from the dealership with a muffler, it would be 10,000 x cooler. This is my spec (mine's an ND2, but is still fantastic, especially with upgraded suspension). This is the spec to get. Right here. If they ever offer a new color that's better than this I'll swap up, but you can't go wrong with a Miata-so long as it's a manual.
Agreed, that's it! I heard they did revise the intake a it on the ND3 so it sounds better in-cabin, but an exhaust is still necessary for these - it really transforms the experience.
@@jonathanlee3945 -1.2 degrees of camber and 1/32nd toe in on all 4 wheels. Plus 6 degrees of castor. It’s the recommended street setup from Goodwin. Steering gets heavier and it’s less floaty on the highway. You could do with less camber for more even tire wear if you want.
Hello; Great video! I throughly enjoyed it. Great product knowledge. I watch all of ur videos, the BRZ, and especially the 2 series BMW, videos. Great cinematography, great audio, All the best, Shaun 🦉 of New York City 🗽
Nice review... thank you. An observation: I was under the impression that the lighter weighted Miata was designed to make the most of driver engagement on lower speed 'twisty' public roadways. Its 'dog never barking' is the raw power of the heavier Mustang, Porsche, Lambo, etc... right? Much of this vid shows you are blasting along at full speed (70-80mph) in a fairly straight line down flat-ish freeways and secondary roads. Since you seem to be a Detroit-er, would not a drive down an Edward Hines Parkway type setting be more appropriate? Its enforced lower speed limit (35-40 mph), meandering alignment and rolling terrain might offer a more fitting driver engagement experience for your audience to consider. Just sayin'...
You can actually use the ND3 Miata in CarPlay and Android Auto as a touchscreen at speed. You just need to go into the bluetooth settings of your phone on the infotainment display and pick that option.
I've spent 8 to 12 hour days in my Recaro equipped ND2, only getting out to pee or get something to drink. I'm fine with no discomfort during and afterwards and I'm 68.
I own a soul crystal red ND2 and I must say I prefer the old look of the tachometer with the two circles. The new one looks kinda empty. Such a beautiful car!
1) How much ceiling height do you think is lost with the RF vs. the ST? Do you think some of the room for your torso & head is determined by the seat type, i.e. Recaro seats vs standard seats 2) How would you describe the difference in performance between RF and ST? i.e. is the weight penalty significant and noticeable? 3) People talk about the RF wind buffeting - can you capture this? Thanks, Topher! Great review of the soft top!
Since the NC 2/3, the Honda s2000 isn’t in the picture. Currently enjoying an NC GT PHRT, I just wish the ND would have had a hard top that folds down with the same look as the ND softop. That’s always the deal breaker for me. Other than that, the ND is a great version of the Miata. Good review!
Do you think the 160bhp versions are powerful egnouth to have fun / slide a bit? The intro outside the car captures the perfect moment for a miata, low sun, heat, some noise in the far and a fun convertible to drive ^^
I live in Europe and own a 1.5L 132bhp ND2. The car was actually designed around the smaller engine. The 1.5L Roadster version retains a perfect 50/50 weight balance. It's incredibly fun to drive! I really enjoy driving out the gears. The biggest difference is that the 1.5L doesn't come with a LSD. So if you really want to go sideways you need one with a LSD. The 160bhp is definitely enough for this car, but I think there are 160bhp versions without LSD so make sure the car you are getting has one (if you want to do some serious drifting).
watching someone else's video or reading somewhere, is the Miata (current/last 2-3 years) experiencing transmission issues? I hope not - it's on my want list!!!
My ND2 is the most fun car ive ever owned, all the time. I had a 370Z but could never really enjoy the power on the street as australian police dont really have any paitence for speeding. Its also so cheap to run, the tank is small, you can run e10 if you want for even cheaper fuel, tyres arent too expensive especislly if you move to a more common tyre size than stock. The rf is also extremely good looking and always seems to draw comments.
Beautiful review at sunset. Very enjoyable to watch. Are you sure that a 718 GTS 4.0 isn't more enjoyable than the ND3 club ? Thank you from a french fan. Take care.
I’ve had a 718 GTS 2.5 and I have a 987.2 S now, and I’ve owned multiple Miata’s. The Miata is more fun under 60mph. The Porsche is more fun above 60mph. If you do a lot of highway driving go Porsche. If you do a lot of town driving with fun backroads, go Miata.
I sold my 718 spyder. Kept the Miata and BRZ. The 4.0 is monster of an engine…sublime platform also for people who can push it to the limit. Unfortunately my skills run out. BUT..if you have a chance to drive it….you must. Maybe a great car for the French hills and alps..but the Miata can give you the giggles also. 😊
I have a 19 club rf. Any idea why my blind spot monitoring button doesn’t do anything? I’m wondering if my battery is in need of replacement. It’s got a date of last year and voltage is a constant 13.7 I believe. Any ideas? The System works.
I've never driven a manual before. But, I've always thought you had to go up to the rev limiter to change up gears. Is there a reason why you go straight to a higher gear while cruising?

Miata.. summer nights, top down.. me and the road. Think about it. I will buy this car. Next year.
Yes, indeed. Don't think about the bugs that will freckle your front end that you'll have to wash off afterwards.😊
Want one of these ND3’s soooooooooooooooo badly. Though would probably go for a Grand Touring with the tan interior personally. Maybe even wrap it BRG!
Oh yeah 👍
18:50 heaven to my ears ❤
my MX5 RF should be delivered next month, I'm so excited!
Did y'all see the cybertruck at 23:23?
Underrated😂😂
Watching this only makes me wish it was the weekend so I could take my ND2 out haha
Appreciate you pointing out how the miata and s2000 compare on the highway
Highways are the necessary evils these cars must endure to get to the fun bits.
thank you so much your video was insanely helpful, can we get a video of you just driving it i loved hearing the turbo 😢❤
I got a Goodwin Racing Super Street muffler and an alignment and its perfect. Next will probably be rims to easily swap to winter tires and sway bars.
Agreed, that's it! I heard they did revise the intake a it on the ND3 so it sounds better in-cabin, but an exhaust is still necessary for these - it really transforms the experience.
@@NOISYBOY0706can you please provide any additional info on the alignment you got?
@@jonathanlee3945 -1.2 degrees of camber and 1/32nd toe in on all 4 wheels. Plus 6 degrees of castor.
It’s the recommended street setup from Goodwin. Steering gets heavier and it’s less floaty on the highway. You could do with less camber for more even tire wear if you want.
@@NOISYBOY0706 nice! I have a Goodwin exhaust as well (love it), but didn't know about their alignment recommendations...thanks!
Hello;
Great video! I throughly enjoyed it. Great product knowledge. I watch all of ur videos, the BRZ, and especially the 2 series BMW, videos.
Great cinematography, great audio,
All the best,
Shaun 🦉 of New York City 🗽
i need a miata in my life. it's like a ray of sunshine on wheels
I wish they'd redesign the taillights. Otherwise a really nice looking car.
What is the churping sound from the engine when you lift the hood at 2:32?
Love this channel. I trust your impressions. I like your Miata content most of all. Thank you!
If you make 100 MX5 videos, I’ll watch all of them 💯💯💯💯💯
20:25 probably made that guys day right there 😭😭
Why crying emoji ?
You can actually use the ND3 Miata in CarPlay and Android Auto as a touchscreen at speed. You just need to go into the bluetooth settings of your phone on the infotainment display and pick that option.
Why would you want to use the touchscreen while driving? This is very unsafe.
The new aero grey is also a really cool colour tho
so nice to hear your voice, i have been grinding my resume and design and code for almost 2 weeks straight
I purchased my first Mazda, a CX5, back in April. I’m really loving it, but am highly considering the Miata when I trade the CX5 in a couple of years.
I've spent 8 to 12 hour days in my Recaro equipped ND2, only getting out to pee or get something to drink. I'm fine with no discomfort during and afterwards and I'm 68.
Miata is an amazing powerful compact vehicle. Its interior is just awesome.
That top-down drive with the music makes me want a convertible so bad
I own a soul crystal red ND2 and I must say I prefer the old look of the tachometer with the two circles. The new one looks kinda empty.
Such a beautiful car!
there is no haters of Kiany and miata in this world
Topher! Please review the RF! I'm torn on which to get, and I know others are also in the same dilemma.
Get the soft top, lighter weight, and you save money as a bonus.
If you're using it year round where you get snow, hard top. Otherwise soft top is the way to go
1) How much ceiling height do you think is lost with the RF vs.
If it’s over 100 degrees in summer for long periods or snow then get RF. I live in California Central Valley and RF is perfect.
Yes the 160/158 hp version is definitely enough. Power is similar enough to the current 2.0L until after 6k rpm
Took my 21 RF GT on a 1600 mile road trip and averaged 40MPG, tbh it’s not a bad roadtrip car if you can pack light! Miata is always the answer.
Spot on about the more expensive vehicles…these “lesser” cars are fine for the road
IIRC the Grand Touring trim does have a little extra material in the soft top to reduce the wind noise.
Drove a loaner from BMW Z4 M40i hearing that engine and the pops Ive been looking at a good price for a used one.
watching someone else's video or reading somewhere, is the Miata (current/last 2-3 years) experiencing transmission issues? I hope not - it's on my want list!!!
wow that sound system is excellent even with the top down. I was cross shopping between the BRZ and an ND2. Maybe the ND3 is the way to go
Might go club but without the pkg, i think for 4800, alot of the add ons can be done personally to your liking.
Yeah you should. Base Club seats this year are the ticket anyway.
One of the only new cars that I still like!
How’s Mazda paint quality these days? Still thin and chip prone?
i love the wheels and ground effects kit. Looks so nice
The kit is for looks and does almost nothing for downforce. There's no ground effect with this car. A flat under panel would do it.
Would you consider it worth an 8 to 10k premium over a used 2022 or 23?
Miata Is Always The Answer
Ya u drive a manual beautifully ❤ it's so crisp and decice
Manuals are the best
beautiful car, one of the best looking car on the road
i wish you could show me how to drive as awesome as you the way you drift the car holy i love it❤
It's painful to watch videos of this amazing car while knowing I'm too tall to ever fit in one 😅
Now if only Mazda would offer a Grand Touring with a Brembo / Recaro Seat option! 🤔
I might snag a copart auctioned ND Miata. Would love one.
I have a 19 club rf. Any idea why my blind spot monitoring button doesn’t do anything? I’m wondering if my battery is in need of replacement. It’s got a date of last year and voltage is a constant 13.7 I believe. Any ideas? The System works.
20:25 did you clutch kick or did it slide on its own power?
He definitely clutch kicked, you can hear him stomping the pedal.
the design is really good
I've never driven a manual before. But, I've always thought you had to go up to the rev limiter to change up gears. Is there a reason why you go straight to a higher gear while cruising?
How would I feel moving from an FType to a Miata ?...am looking into it to avoid large future bills.
