I'd love to hear from people who play full damage Longsword! How do you make it work? It's certainly not my style, I'm keen to know what you are doing with your build :)
Well I’m a bit of a beginner and do damage build although I’m going to change to tank as I much prefer survival. It is very difficult as you die more often or get very low, duels are very difficult
As a damage longsword you try and use your unit to help keep you alive, the idea is, increase your damage output as much as possible while still being though enough to survive. Sally forth is a must have, this skill with a full damage build is strong enough to take almost any low health hero off guard and kill them outright especially if you can land a hit with it while your units are with you it can be canceled somewhat easily so try to wait out your enemy's CC recovery. I'm sure you've seen Alanapogee's longsword build video he does a pretty good summary of damage longsword.
so while i dont do full damage i do play a hybrid. i do 70 in toughness, rest in agaility. 2 guardsman 2 carniflex. :3 quite a fun yet shockingly damaging class
Very informative, I love the support role this weapon provides. What i also love about this class is using the shield charge to smash through the enemies solid defences, opening up the gap that’s needed for the boys to charge in. Great class, I’ve been rocking full armour but will switch to Health and see how we roll. Please keep up the great video content, Evo & yourself are ambassadors for this game (big thumbs up)
@@KnightStalker finding it slightly more squishy compared to going full armour. So I changed it up 70% Armour - 20% Tough - 10% Agility. I use Imperial Spearmen bottom vet tier utilising the surround hero ability in game, and find myself a bastion of defence!
Ah, Knightly Vows. As some have mentioned, you need it to better micro your Fortebraccio or position any slow units like MoDao. I have Sprint doc and knightly vows to speed up Fortebraccio's brace by 50%, which makes them much more aggressive and responsive. Them Forte being my must bring unit, it gives quite an edge even against T5 units. You could even xv and solo a unit of IR if you're lucky. But the cooldown is a turn off for sure, if it was 20s like mercy then that would bump it up to very good. This season I've been trying Max armor and 50/50 str/toughness, I must say that extra bit of atk makes the difference on sally forth. It can actually kill heros... if you catch them off guard. Clash of shield is better this season though, the rune pushes it above sally forth (Although I still can't use it properly and always get myself or my units killed).
I do love me some Fortes! Excellent pairing with a longsword! 50% movement boost sounds sooo good! After we made that little video I tried and tried and tried Sally and it just doesn't work for me - but I guess if Clash doesn't work for you it's gotta be a style thing :) Whens your next video out? It's been over a month - don't keep us waiting! :)
Knightly vows is useful for moving slow units like fortebraccios and also good for chasing down fleeing heroes. For units that need to get into position to attack, such as sword infantry, it speeds up that process. Useful for units that have cooldown abilities.
Plus you can boost it with the rune for a 6% damage reduction :) I find that I just can't fit it in over a recovery or the base damage valor. What other skills do you use?
@@KnightStalker I use Mercy of Heaven, Knightly Vows, With Valour, and Clash of Shields. It sucks not having a CC recover, but I try to stick closer to the team for support. If you are cut off, but can avoid getting CC'd, Knightly Vows will help you to escape. I main Poleaxe, but lately I prefer more unit survivability than aggressiveness and player kills. I seem to have a better win ratio with Longsword and my using heavy infantry and shield walls with the heals makes my units last into the end of the match as long as I'm aware of my surroundings.

However I love being able to control the progress of attacks and defence with charge clearing anything I needed and using the correct unit to take advantage of the situation thank you for your video.
Indeed it does! Did you know that except for a tiny number of very specific units (like Hussars) the extra speed does not cause extra damage? Very tricksy!
Very good guide. Thank you. I hope a lot of new players will watch it. I personally prefer to play with both buffs. Just because of the fact that can not do any good damage. I focus completely on supporting my units kill things with them. And I also play with more armour stats and the rune wich gives you more def when you use a buff. So in that case i am a real pain in the ass to get off endcap. Just holding my shield and doing autoattacks, tumbling around, heal and speed buff everything. It was a lot of fun to play. I started to play longsword after I got bored playing maul.
Nymphidius Rune doesn't seem to be doubling damage above 75% health for this season. Don't switch your stats to full strength like I did, and get stuck with it for a week thinking full strength and that would be awesome. I want my free reset back but you know that isn't going to happen.

Longsword is actually suprisingly good in a duel. I haven't dueled a longsword with anything but pike and all they do is hold up their shield and chip at my health.
I was building hybrid and then I went full armour. I end up doing more damage just because I am alive to command my troops and fuck with the enemy. Sometimes they will go crazy to kill me and brake their unit formation and I can roll out while sending my unit in. Then my unit will always come out on top because they will have a few thousand more hp due to my healing. And I am still decent at dueling lower armour classes or a heavy armour class at half or so hp. Knock them down with the ult, land with valour while they are down, land counterattack and a basic attack or two and they are dead most of the time or I can chase with my unit or hero with knighly vows( the ms buff). EDIT: I prefer armour to hp because light armour assassins basically do twice as less damage and I can survive. I still have toughness and hp buffs so I have about 27 500 hp anyway. If you go full toughness( 70 more points in toughness instead of in armour) you end up having 35 000 hp instead of 27 500 but your armour is so bad you take insane damage from everything. Most of the time you can't cast the healing due to cc so in those situations it is better to play armour in my opinion. It also works wonders if you want to switch between LS, poleaxe and maul because you won't need to reset your points all the time.
This season I have switch to armor with surprising results in the new meta - always think for yourself, these vids are just my opinion and in this case the video is a little outdated :) Keep it up!
Great video, and thanks for openly sharing your tips. I will try without Knightly Vows, I just thought the rune that enhances its effect made it worth. I think LS becomes more useful towards the end of the season because we play TW more in castles and the dynamics are slower. With so much cav going around the healing becomes irrelevant sometimes.
The kicker for knightly vows is the super long cooldown but also that you have to give up a better skill for it - if it works for you by all means keep going, this is most certainly a build specific to me :) All that cav in TW, do you use the Clash ult? It's an extra free cav charge stopper, probably makes a big difference to the multiple cav waves?
@@KnightStalker Do you know if blocking with the shield avoids maul grab and poleaxe ulti ? And what about activating clash of shields when they are coming ?
My skills with Longsword are identical to yours, except I have your Q and E abilities swapped, and I use Sally Forth instead of Clash Of Shields. I CANNOT use that Shield Charge Ult to save my life. Also, the Runes you didn't have equipped for Longsword are the exact ones that I use. But I may definitely have to take your advice a little bit with how I spend my skill points in Strength, Toughness, Agility, and Reslilience.
How about going for Armor / Toughness Longsword as baseline but also skilling Glaive and/or Maul? Sure, you'll miss the Agi and Str and therefor quite a bit of damage on Glaive and Maul but you'll still do more damage then if you take out your Longsword. So instead of creating a Maul-Twink, the Maul becomes the twink on the Longsword-Character?
@@KnightStalker Really? Didn'T see any interesting stuff that's newer then 6 month or so, mostly gameplay stuff within the last weeks, got to check your video overview again I think
I personally still like using paladin since i always play with heavy infantry.. This will make sure my unit will win even in 1v1 unit scenario (unless its weapon dance poleaxe)
Nice video informative and funny. I should say that armor is much better than health though. There is a whole math sheet that covers the topic if you can find it. Health is better against a hand full of units. If you consider heros muskets and archers can not throw enough arrows to kill you in the first place, doesnt matter if you have 25k or 33k health ^_^. You find yourself surviving much longer in full armor or half armor half other things build.
I helped Alan doing test work on that math sheet :) After about 3k hours playing longsword I have come to the conclusion that both are viable but I lean towards armor in the earlier game and health in the late game, just about everything punches through your armor in the late game. The kicker this season is the most powerful runes scale off your HP - so for this season at least, HP is the clear winner in my humble opinion :)
I've just downloaded the game and I guess I have questions. I do wish to play a "Paladin" type character and this build would seem to fit that. Do you have an "Academy" that you run where you help newer players?
Yes this weapon is the Paladin class. I dont have a boot camp style series but i do have several videos for new players - check the playlists on my channel
@@KnightStalker Well it doesn't even matter I guess. My work sucks. They have user controls that require admin abilities to be able to start any third party application. Oh well. Maybe in a few months :(
Okay i'm lookin for some advice. I'm a longsword player and I enjoy supporting my team healing them and making them go faster when i can and the added damage resistance is very nice. Plus being so tanky is entertaining especially when the occasional dual blades seems to think they can take you out easy lol. I like to run with valor, knightly vows, mercy of heaven, clash of shields. My question to everyone is what unit(s) can help me with buffing and supporting my allies? Without having to think much about micro managing them? I want to focus more on buffing, supporting and helping my team than focusing alot on managing my unit(s). I hope i'm explaining this right. Any advice on what unit(s) would be best suited?
OK so buff units are: Shieldmaidens, Bagpipes. Support units are: All shield units, all pikes, alchemists, rattan vipers, flame throwers, zykalian militia, martellatori and falconetti. Does this help?
Hey Knight! How many fps do you have on average? And what are your PC's specs. My game runs terrible even tho I have good pc. Would love to see your answer. Guide guide as always btw.
Somewhere 40-60 on average, the optimisation is not perfect for sure. I have Steam overlay for FPS in the top left corner of all my videos if you wanted to check that out. To get my mighty 40-60 FPS I am running... AMD Ryzen 9, 3950X (32 CPU at 3.5GHZ), 32 RAM and a monster NVIDIA RTX 3090.... yeah.... 40-60 FPS...
Since your full toughness u should use martial prowess instead of with valour. . Valour has 5 hits but how often do u get to exucute all of them b4 u get cc??
Valor is the only modicum of burst damage longsword has so I find it invaluable when dealing with troops and light/medoum heroes. Typically will get the whole combo off, especially if the enemy is downed. Clash into valor will kill a half health medium or light
Hey so I have a question about attires, I unlocked an attire but it is not in my inventory or personal storage, it just says unlocked, as what do I do?
if u go to ur character screen u should see a button below ur gear that looks like a painters tray and brush, click that and i will open the skin section of the game. also make sure its hero attire u unlocked and not unit attire.
MrCataclysem is correct, the units and hero attires have their own special selection screen. If you get something new, follow the gold pop up markers, click where its indicating to you and follow that marker to find where your new stuff is
I started C.B. few days ago and it seems to be fun! Its like Bannerlord with mmo elements and tbh, more fun gameplay! Just one thing: From what i see at 70-74 lvl you stop earning attirbute points so how did you manage to have 28-21-21-100? What am i missing here? Thx.
It's called different things on different servers - but it's got what looks like a sun or something on the breastplate and has a wide brimmed helmet. The horse is a light grey coat with black zig zags. Wish I could remeber what it's called but I'm not at my computer to check
@@KnightStalker Ok, thx for your answer and i think i know what the set is, cause im checking all the time the available skins since i love to play in style😉 I just asked cause things starts to get kinda "hard" with the last phase of the quest-chain and i wanted to see if its worth the trouble etc.
As a MMO veteran but new to CB, because this class is largely unit dependent, would it be worth playing when my units are about lvl5 and haven't gotten to very good units yet?
Likewise with gear, I am a pretty fresh character and still learning all of the systems like runes and crafting and haven't gotten into learning what everything on the map means
LS certainly has an affinity with heavier units, particularly late game, but even archers and cav can benefit from a skilled LS using their knowledge to disrupt and tilt
I've been watching a lot of your videos over the past few days and certainly see the synergy with heavy and archers, but how does the playstyle apply to cav?
You can park them and heal them or combat dismount and ult into a pike unit while charging with cav. LS is not good for cav mainly because LS cant fight from horseback but there are little tricks you can still do.
@@KnightStalker yeah but for example you didnt fulfill all the energy so wouldnt it be better to take any rune than leave it blank or am i missing something?
The combat mechanics center around the knockdowns and controls, if you are struggling, you could try playing with the Sally Forth ult and the Shield Bash skill as both of those will get you up off the ground in most situations. It's mostly about timing but also its normal to be knocked down a lot as a front line tank, after all you want those skills to be used on you instead of your team - getting punched in the face is your job :)
@@KnightStalker with alot of old guide compiling and testing i can only say that Shield charge, shield throw and ironside are must use, ulti is thunderstruck. @@KnightStalker Do you know if blocking with the shield avoids maul grab and poleaxe ulti ? And what about activating clash of shields when they are coming ?
Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
You're so welcome :)
"My Longsword brings all the boys to the yard!"
Damn right. It's better than Mauls!
Cool man, give it a go! You might find it doesn't work for you but it's always interesting to see how an alternative build works!
This is the old guide, new one is only about 8 weeks old if you are interested
@@KnightStalker Really? Didn'T see any interesting stuff that's newer then 6 month or so, mostly gameplay stuff within the last weeks, got to check your video overview again I think
Thank you!!!
You are so welcome :)
I personally still like using paladin since i always play with heavy infantry.. This will make sure my unit will win even in 1v1 unit scenario (unless its weapon dance poleaxe)
Great to hear you're making it work for you! :)
On top of your mercy it's quite a solid buff combo
How to get lagendary longsword
Nice video informative and funny. I should say that armor is much better than health though. There is a whole math sheet that covers the topic if you can find it. Health is better against a hand full of units. If you consider heros muskets and archers can not throw enough arrows to kill you in the first place, doesnt matter if you have 25k or 33k health ^_^. You find yourself surviving much longer in full armor or half armor half other things build.
I helped Alan doing test work on that math sheet :)
After about 3k hours playing longsword I have come to the conclusion that both are viable but I lean towards armor in the earlier game and health in the late game, just about everything punches through your armor in the late game.
The kicker this season is the most powerful runes scale off your HP - so for this season at least, HP is the clear winner in my humble opinion :)
@@KnightStalker Thank you. That was very kind and helpful of you maybe I will give it another shot.
This is great
New and updated one real soon :)
@@KnightStalker heck yea
@@KnightStalker I think so.
I like pike & short sword but the healing kept me to longsword
Same :)
18:04 best part xD
'Fight me' lol
hi Are you sure you can still play with the Full toughness Build
I have changed to armor this season for the new meta - update soon
Hey so I have a question about attires, I unlocked an attire but it is not in my inventory or personal storage, it just says unlocked, as what do I do?
if u go to ur character screen u should see a button below ur gear that looks like a painters tray and brush, click that and i will open the skin section of the game. also make sure its hero attire u unlocked and not unit attire.
MrCataclysem is correct, the units and hero attires have their own special selection screen. If you get something new, follow the gold pop up markers, click where its indicating to you and follow that marker to find where your new stuff is
Some of these runes i don't have, would they be season runes? Or is it related to the Hero's level?
This was made last season, some are no longer available
@@KnightStalker
sorry, i'm new player. I don't know exactly how the runes system works and how to unlock them. I think I already unlocked all I could.
I have a short video from maybe 4 weeks back called "runes and warcry" you might find helpful
Thx.
You are missing the bonuses from runes and gear. I have a mini guide on runes and warcry from a couple weeks ago that you might find helpful :)
@@KnightStalker I suspected so! 😅Thx for your answer and something else pls, can you tell me whats the Hero skin we unlock with Path of Wisdom III?
0:10 NO, I’m not letting u steal EVO’s place already Knight!😂😂😂
Bye EVO, I’ll miss u!😢😢😢😢
My spot now. Yoink!
why not fill all the rune spaces? is there a reason for that?
Runes have different costs and there is a cost cap
@@KnightStalker yeah but for example you didnt fulfill all the energy so wouldnt it be better to take any rune than leave it blank or am i missing something?
Hmm didnt realise i missed one
Man every time they knock me down. I don’t why
@@KnightStalker 👍🏻
How does the hero leadership increase ?
Player crafted armor pieces have a random chance to gain more leadership. Max 25 per piece.
@@KnightStalker ah ok thank you
Hey can You try shortsword again i think it would be fun
Yeah maybe eh? I dont have a lot of spare time right now but I do love the Smol Sword!
@@KnightStalker shortsword guide that is up to date would be so awesome, since there is noone that covers shortsword.
Interesting... its not my main weapon, not sure if I know enough to confidantly espouse it. Perhaps I could crowd source the information?
@@KnightStalker with alot of old guide compiling and testing i can only say that Shield charge, shield throw and ironside are must use, ulti is thunderstruck. But when it comes to stats all i found that basicly almost anything works, cant really say what is the best stat combo, but atm trying full agility and it kinda works. Cant say anyting about slashing and blunt dmgs which is better since as i said cant find any fresh guides/info on it and dont really have the resource to do alot of experimenting.
How are people reaching 900 in armor and still having points left??
I've got full Guardsman, 3x Legendary, 1x Purple. And I'm still not hitting 900 armor with all points there...
Currently your armor bonuses are not active because of the new tier lock system.
Could that be it?
@@KnightStalker Might be, I'm at 833 atm with full points (85) in Armor.
With the crafted bonuses I might just barely hit 900.
Well, seems I had the dumb bug aswell.
I reset my attributes again just to try, and now I have 95 instead of 85 in Armor.
Getting me to 863 without the crafted bonus stats :/
@@KnightStalker Which runes do you use now in S12?
I'm running
Wep: 0,5% heal + Stats + stats.
Helmet: After using Ultimate get Buff 10sec
Toughness+5, 3% max HP.
Chest: 40% dmg reduction during buff, 15% reduction on Headshots & backstabs.
Boots: Stats, Stats, All defences +15%
Hands: Stats, Stats, 1% heal per sec during Buff.
So I can use my ultimate to charge down Pikes/Shields and be buffed up to survive being the first one to jump in, just before my units land their charge.
Oooh... I'm working from memory here. The major ones are the 0.5% tick, every single rune that gives me more HP, I use the paragon skill trigger for Roar of the North coupled with 50% damage reduction and damage increase for a little bit of burst. Cant remember the others off the top of my head. I also haven't settled on these ones yet, this is just what I have equipped right now to try out :)
Tbh, considering the amount of CC nowadays...Maybe Sally Forth would be a solid pick for an ultimate. I love Clash of Shields, but I get CC'd SO MUCH, having a 2nd thing that breaks me out of it would be useful. I'll think about it. Still love Clash.
You make a good point :)
u should sometimes throw everything out of the window and try full str, or full agi and just use your shield stab jk😂
I've tried all of these things many times :)
@@KnightStalker i did too its bad xD i think they should improve combat skills of longsword first to have a possibility of a damage type build. Maybe improve on Aoe or cc
Would be too OP if it could sustain, heal AND do damage.... lets do it!
First
'grats ;)
