24:14 This basically sums up how I feel about the collab banner. Despite all the issues I have with the collab banner, if there’s a character I want I’m gonna roll for them regardless.
I'll give this. You def made good points about the gacha collab. I still don't like it, felt it was done really terribly and would like for it to go away, but it's not the worst. I'm still against it cuz no matter how these characters are, this may be the only time to get them and someday may see use in the most random of ways. Also keeping up with the meta is getting more difficult, especially for f2p players or light spenders. I don't really like something else possibly thinning the spark funds even more, but I def won't fault anyone for pulling on it.
Asking a new player to roll on a 3% banner with 30% chance of getting one of the new chars in a game where spark costs 90000yen is insane. There’s no other way to put it. GBF is among the most expensive gachas out there and 3% is so shit you might not even get any ssrs during your spark. I pulled for railgun girls in blue archive and at 200 rolls with 3% I got no one. Milking new players is a sure way to keep em playing ye? Don’t forget that they only have 2 weeks to roll or these units are gone forever adding to preassure. I think it’s just scummy, that’s it. Make it 100 rolls for a spark with same rates (your balance rant makes no sense) or do it like a discount spark thing with first 100 being free, up to 200 and 300 costing money would be cool. It’s a special banner too so they can do whatever they want. To counter my own point, slime representatives are most likely very involved into this and most of the bad/greedy decisions might be on them. Still we have what we have in the game now. Congrats you made some money but how many of these new players are gonna stick, how many of old will leave… Besides you’re only forming 1 team in a game with 6 elements and with these abysmal rates you’re probably not gonna get anything else.
When I asked about how many draws you can get as a new player on stream multiple people said that you could grind out a spark in a few days using story and side stories. So depending on how much you grind you could massively or completely negate your need to spend in order to spark. Also depending on how much you grind you may be more inclined to stay longer just because you've put in time. And at the end of the day saying like milking new players is a way to make them stay? Well on the flip side giving everything free isn't a way to guarantee they stay either, and even though it may sound scummy I think the devs see it more as "I'd rather attempt to get money before they leave as opposed to having no reason for them to spend before they leave." I also think that the rates outside this banner are massively overstated. A lot of people say "you might not even get ssrs while pulling" but people get scammed like that on normal flash and legs too where they barely get anything. But on slime with the higher rates on the 2 characters there's the possibility that you also just roll both characters before you even get close to 300 rolls. Like I understand that everything is luck but it feels like people only look at the potential of what you could get on the leg/flash banners and the potential of the slime banner instead of the reality of what you could actually get on both. Same thing with saying you're only gonna be able to make one team in a 6 ele game off the banner because you're not going to roll anybody else. But like, if you rolled on a flash or leg are you really you guaranteed to roll 6 different teams for all the eles too? Like you could spark right now and only get like 4 or 5 ssrs grand or not and that puts you nearly in the same place as slime and all these characters could be in different eles and not even work together lol. Also for the balancing thing I guarantee that if they made the banner 100 draws for a spark same rates they'd end up having no free draws at all on the banner because again they need balance and they want to make money and with the event probably giving you half that for free by the end their chances of making money go down and they probably didn't want to do that and if they gave out no free draws that'd probably be an even bigger uproar than what we have now lol. Lastly at the end of the day new players are going to stay and leave regardless and if they want the character they're either going to find a way to get them or they're just going to drop the game when they realize the work or money it takes to spark them but if there's even a chance cygames can make money even if they drop the game after light spending that's still more they would've made over a player who starts for an all free collab then drops the game afterwards for other reasons anyway. As for old players leaving I literally don't understand this because again this banner is a nothingburger, if you dislike the practice sure but anyone actually playing the game can see that the characters aren't core and until they are there's no point in getting so upset to the point of leaving when you're not forced to roll on the banner. Even if you're an existing player who's a slime fan you may feel fomo about it but is that fomo literally to the point of quitting the game over it? That just feels excessive to me but maybe I'm crazy
@ gbf mainly makes money from selling characters. Collab events are meant to attract new and returning players as well as general exposure. I have no data to back this up but seeing jp people being unhappy it seems like most of the whales are gonna be skipping collab banner. I doubt there’s enough new player whales to take their place so we already talking about a banner that’s not making much money. Collab events are incredibly costly. Just buying IP rights for these big franchises can go into hundreds of thousands of dollars. Not to mention all the work from artists, vas, engineers, marketing etc. Idk about the clauses of their deal but it’s not unreasonable to assume slime holders are getting a split. There’s also no new gbf chars that people might have wanna roll instead. So all in all I think pennies that they make from collab gacha are just that - pennies, an irrelevant sum in the grand scheme of things. Thus I think this whole making money discussion is pointless. You wanna ease in your new players as much as possible. First impression with these types of games is paramount. Imagine being a new player and seeing collab gacha for 90000yen and beginner spark with better odds and useful characters for 4500yen next to it. But characters you know and want are on the banner that’s much more expensive. Even if you take freebies and free rolls into consideration, there’s like 150-200 rolls more needed to finish the spark. I don’t think it is reasonable for new player to go straight into side stories, skipping everything and farming for hours with shitty grids and no chars for scraps. Each side story is about 6-7 rolls. You’re already burning out players at the start of their journey, giving them 2 weeks to figure out the game and grind what’s most optimal which only an experienced player can tell em. Let them enjoy your game and build trust, they will happily spend money later. As for leaving players. It’s not about this particular banner or any other one thing in a vacuum. I feel like the general vibes have been trending down for a while and old players find it harder and harder to stick to the game. Each new stupid decision cuts a portion of these players. My crew used to be very competitive but now there are barely any people playing. Most of the contributing players at the time when I joined (around release of wmtsb2) are retired.
@anubion46 Your first paragraph literally explains what I talked about in the video though. Yes collabs do take a lot of money to do and that's exactly the point why they want to make money back to recoup costs no matter how little. Because no matter how little they make it's still more than they would've made if everything was free. So that's why I think the money making discussion is important when you bring up all the collab costs but want everything to be free that just doesn't make sense. For the second paragraph you say this about the 4500 spark but there's a lotttt of characters in granblue and that spark is only for the most recent flash or leg, you could very easily want characters from a banner that either you didn't start on, characters from both banners in which case you need to spark on the other banner anyway, or even you want a limited seasonal that's not available on the spark anyway. So while I understand yes in terms of bang for your buck the 4.5k spark vs 90k difference is obvious when you bring in what people actually want coming in this can be so subjective anyway that it doesn't really hold up. And to say that if players are given enough time to build trust and such they will happily spend is just straight untrue. Sure some people will go this route but there are tons of people who are just straight f2p or seasonal who will never spend regardless. I can agree though that having to push people to do everything in 2 weeks can be a lot but would you rather them instead make the collab like a month? Would something like that make the situation better overall? And I do think people leaving is a valid concern but at the end of the day people are going to leave regardless lol. The game is 10 years old going on 11 and that's a long time to keep players around even if you did everything seemingly right. People are going to have different breaking points and people are going to leave for various reasons. And like you said if the general vibes are bad I can see why people would leave and if you want to add the collab gacha as something on top of those reasons to leave sure but I feel like putting so much energy into focusing on the collab as the main downfall of the game isn't productive when again it really doesn't even effect people who are leaving because the characters aren't so good that you need to have them and if they're leaving because of this it's more so an excuse to leave because of other bad vibes with the game and not the collab gacha itself
@@Ajt500 we are talking about negligible amounts tho no? It's like wanting to recoup a taco worth of money from buying a car. It's nice, I guess... but ultimately pointless.
