I weep uncontrollably every single time I hear the final trio. Every . . . single . . . time. A while back during a conversation someone mentioned the final trio and I started tearing up just thinking about it.
Whenever I return from a trip the first thing I listen to is Dame Kiri and the Rosenkavalier trio. There are many glorious moments in many Strauss operas, but none come close to the trio
Extraordinario trio. Kiri en la Mariscala tiene todo lo que tiene que tener el personaje. Personalidad y clase a raudales.
Just before watching and listening to this I watched the same scene, the same music being performed by an American soprano whom I will not name. I was immediately aware - and went back and forth between the two videos to confirm - that the American was seriously scooping. Dame Konawa's technique is absolute perfection.
OOPS! Sorry. Of course it's Anne Howells. I didn't realize how much she looked like von Stade (at least in trousers and a wig). And Howells is marvelous, as, of course, are Dame Kiri and Barbara Bonney. What a cast, and what a trio!
Much better times for opera lovers... today, apart from the much lower quality of singing, in general, we also have to cope with the most absurd settings for this gem of the repertoire!
Why is it so difficult? I truly don't understand! I'm sure that there are other Maori classical musicians. Eventually, they will make themselves known, and the world will be better for it!!🌺
@Robert Lee, Countertenor Exactly! It was when I had a couple of broken ribs, that I was finally able to breathe the way my teacher wanted. When I was breathing correctly, it *didn't* hurt!! Singing or not, I spent a whole lot of time breathing the correct way, while my ribs healed. Once you've found the placement, well, *you* know what I mean!! 😬

Sehr schön!

Sublime.
Die Marschallin in der Rosenkavalier war Kiri Te Kanawas Abschiedsrolle als Sängerin auf der Opernbühne am Opernhaus Köln (17. April 2010).
Sublime!!!

existe t-il plus grandioses musique et interprétation réunies?
..absolutely, the most perfect(along-side Schwartzkopf-Sofia-Mutter performance(recorded with much less sophisticated equipment -of that time
Saundra Wells the most perfect of the next generation is Fleming Bonney Graham with Vienna Phil and Eschenbach
Goosebumps
It looks like Barbara Bonney has them, too.

Me too! All the music in that series is just exquisite.
That's not Anne Howells! It's Frederica von Stade.
Wrong.
Yes, I realized I was wrong almost immediately. See my follow-up comment.

@@brookeggleston9314 Inia Te Wiata was the fore-runner and helped foster Kiri’s career when she left New Zealand
