good day *nickhiggsthesinger* theres a few things i wanted to point out about voiceplay: firstly theres usually 5 members in symphonics group of acapella, sometimes 6 with added guest female vocalist(s),male guest vocalist as well as a combination of mutiple guest vocalist throughout their long stand careers. earl isnt with them currently. earl is the one with pretty voice and its super sweet. but earl can do vocal sounds,as well as singing his lower and upper ranges. he can sing in alto, soprano, and tenor musicial accompaniments. jnnone has the very soothing tenor, soprano ranges but hes normally singing his deep accents from french, jamaician and english tones respectively. btws they all have their own youtube channels as well. layne is the one with "animated preccussion sounds" but he sing while holding his own in the transitional sections. layne always playing with geoff's hair.. either by "rubbiing the top of head roughing it up" or by using one or two fingers from the side of geoff"s face removing a strand of hair out of way..and yes lol they do make eye contant in doing so(usually geoff and layne are the ones either sitting side by side or from top and bottom sitting arrangments. and the geoff.. well hes geoff lol. you either love em por hate em. however hes such a bad ass lol.. i have a few song suggestions and groups of acapella you like to listen and/or have reactions to: *voiceplay* song "wicked," moana, "into the unknown," and "your are a mean one mr. grinch" *Voctave*song called "90s cartoon disney medley" and "where are you christmas?" its one of their favorite songs *pattycakeproduction musical* songs; bump in the night, villains mansion, love finds a way, the villains lair.
VoicePlay are one of the three big names in a capella right now. They stand out and are unique for their theatrical approach to many of their videos. Geoff, as you know, is the bass, often being a bass guitar. for the group. He arranges roughly half of their videos ,the other half being done by Layne Stein, the beatboxer/vocal percussion. The line up in this one is not what you see now, as two members have since left. The tenor with the beard, Earl Elkins Jnr (he did the cackle) left in 2020 for personal reasons. J.None, the black baritone left in 2021 to sing with the US Navy music section. The remaining tenor, (short and bald) is Eli (say it as ellie) Jaconbson. Ex rock singer and voice over artist, he is a master of riffs and runs. He did the voice of Santa in this. If you want to that from this line up you need to hear their cover of Tennessee Whisky, which is the video I first saw from them. I've never looked back. Others? Hoist The Colours; The Dragonborn Comes, Can't Help Falling in Love, ...too many to mention. :)
Give "Seven Nation Army" a try! Very different from what you have done by them/Geoff thus far. They nail every genre (as you'll find out real quick) they tackle. Just says even more about their versatility. Best in the biz IMO 🥰
Also, fyi/note about J.None too. As Christine mentioned he has since left for the Navy, but he is still very active with them as a feature. He's basically part time for them.... if he can get off the time to record and shoot for them, he's featured. You will find his silky baritone and wide range of talents a trip I'm sure! Also, he (J.None) is a GIANT goofball and his bromace with Layne (beatbox/composer) is the funniest/more wholesome thing ever 🥰 🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕 (Carrots- if you know you know 😉)
Hall of the Mountain King by VoicePlay is one of my favorites. Telling a story without speaking a word is master class, and VoicePlay teaches it without a pause!
And it’s arranged and directed by Layne Stein (vocal percussionist) - the same as this video. He has a truly wondrous imagination and an even greater talent. Perfect for the Halloween season!
Oh, I fully agree! That song is amazing, no lyrics, some silly character voices again, and so great for Halloween. Elizabeth's operatic voice also really adds flavor to their spicy stew. I hope they bring her back to guest-sing some day.
Did you know all 3 of these were competitors in a series called The Sing-off? IIRC, Home Free and VoicePlay were in the same season and competed against each other. You can even find a collab video of the two. PTX was in a previous season but were guests in this season, helping them with a song.
@@nickhiggsthesinger some older voiceplay tunes that are necessary listening is We Don't Talk About Bruno, If I were a rich man/woman, Hoist the Colours and The Dragonborn Comes.
Spooky season suggestions: "Hide and Seek (Ding Dong)" feat. Lauren Paley (the Stairwell Siren from Tik Tok), "Friends on the Other Side" feat. J None, "This is Halloween", "Superstition".
Honestly, just pick any song. My suggestion would the The Little Mermaid, that is a masterpiece, and everyone gets a turn to be featured, even Layne that is normally just doing the beatbox. Or you could go back to one of their first songs where they did costumes and all, The Phantom of the Opera, Geoff is really in the background in that one just being a human bass guitar. Or, you know, they hit us with a Metallica song recently which was shockingly good, Nothing Else Matters, my wife says she prefers their version over the original.
@@nickhiggsthesinger they even have some comedy routines they've done... for some good laughs I recommend The Chicken Song, and Road Trip :) they also have a song called A Crimpella and it's... well let's just say it's bizarre and wonderful and fun!
Layne Stein (beatboxer) arranged this one. He likes to challenge Geoff in his arrangements. Earl Elkins is the tenor with the perfect wicked laugh. He's no longer with the group but had a lazer beam voice that cut through all the others according to Geoff. I would say wait on the Christmas videos because they have so many more Halloween songs you need to see. There is more from The Nightmare Before Christmas. They have Ding Dong which is really good and features Lauren Paley. They did Hellfire this year which just blew me away! Happy hunting through their catalogue.😊
Yes definitely react to “Christmas Don’t Be Late” not only will you see their funny side we all love but it’s features Deejay Young who just finished touring with Hamilton and is currently a contestant on The Voice. Since VoicePlay currently only has 4 members they have guests to be the 5th vocalists.
Musically, I'd second the recs for In The Hall Of The Mountain King, Hoist the Colours, Halo, and We Don't Talk About Bruno. For spectacle: Houst the Colours, Valhalla Calling, Dream On, and Seven Nation Army. All for different reaaons, because their ability to conquer wildly different styles is phenomrnal. Along with their vocal talent, ability to work with guests, and taste in arrangers...
Hoist The Colours is the first Voiceplay masterpiece I watched and I've been down the rabbit hole ever since. Nothing Else Matters, This is Halloween, are great. If you need a good cry, I Can't make You Love Me will rip your heart out. Have fun!😊❤❤
@@nickhiggsthesinger I 2nd the suggestion to watch I Can't Make You Love Me.... it's such a breathtakingly beautiful cover, and Cesar (their newest member, a baritenor) is who starts off the song & his ability to convey emotions through his voice will leave you speechless. It's also a great opportunity to hear Layne (the beatboxer, who's dressed as Zero from The Nightmare Before Christmas) singing, since there's no percussion at all in their Bonnie Raitt cover.
Well, you asked for Voiceplay suggestions, so here they are 😅. Metallica's "Nothing else matters" could be a nice start, as well as "True colors", "Tennessee whisky", "Can't help falling in love", "Superstition", the post-apocalyptic trilogy Imagine Dragons' "Warriors", Aerosmith's "Dream on" and The White Stripes' "7 Nation Army", their Vikings' stuff ("My mother told me" and "Valhalla calling"... And here you'll hear Geoff going the lowest, as he hits 3 B0 in this song), "I can't make you love me", video games stuff like "The Dragonborn comes - Skyrim" or the "Halo Theme" (to be watched to the end... The long, spoken outro is a precious window open onto the reasons behind that particular video and their human beings side), the super cute (yet kinda weird) "Golden hour", the hilarious, Halloween-esque rendition of the classical, instrumental, orchestral piece by Edvard Grieg "In the hall of the Mountain King" from the "Peer Gynt", "We don't talk about Bruno" from Disney's "Encanto" or their live "Elvira", or the collaborations with another GREAT a cappella group, Home Free, "Survivor - Zombies vs Hillbillies"... or whatever else. 🙂 You won't regret, and whatever you choose next, you're in for a treat. 🙂 Home Free is another super great a cappella group, and they're friends with Voiceplay since they both participated in the tv show "Sing Off" and the subsequent tour (it was the 4th season, Home Free won and Voiceplay were 4th). Geoff is a big fan of Home Free's bass singer, Tim Foust. If you watch Voicpley's "Just sing!" video (mandatory captions, they will tell you who the singer at any given moment is and what relationship s/he has with Voiceplay) you'll see them have quite a funny (virtual) interaction, albeit a short one 😁. And if you were willing to discover another a cappella group that I like a lot, and as we're in Spooktober, you can watch both Voiceplay and The Bass Gang versions of "Ding dong - Hide and seek", both featuring Laura Paley. Same song, two VERY different takes... 😉 See you next time!
I suggest you take a list of all of their works and blindfold yourself, point at a place on the list, and listen to that next. They just do not have a bad song.
I believe all of VPs Halloween songs were arranged by Layne (beatbox). In general, they split the arrangements pretty much 50/50, but Layne usually does Halloween and Geoff usually does Christmas. Layne often pushes Geoff into those high highs falling to a low-low; Geoff rarely arranges that for himself.
Geoff and Layne have known each other since middle school, sang in high school chorus together and have been singing together professionally since 1997. They rebranded as Voiceplay in 2012. Most arrangements are done by either Geoff or Layne, swapping turns month to month. Whoever arranges usually has the whole project from beginning to end. No label, no manager, completely independent. That allows them complete artistic control and it shows. It also means they don't get ther recognition that other groups do. They toured extensively pre-Covid, but have settled in as mostly recording artists. They have done a few private corporate gigs in the last couple of years. Their version of We Don't Talk About Bruno was so good, that Disney hired them to perform it at a huge private event. In November they will appear in concert with Chicago in Atlantic City NJ Try Bruno, it's great!
A particular favorite VoicePlay song is their cover of I Can't Make You Love Me, which is entirely different and is after Earl and J left the group at the end of the pandemic. An extremely amazing srtist from the UK is Chinchilla, who has so much expression in her voice. I suggest her video Fingers (live performance version) for an introduction.
Welcome, friend, to the VoicePlay rabbit hole. We have pumpkins, Christmas lights and great Viking outfits. Highly recommended, in no particular order: Voiceplay: - If I Were a Rich Man/Girl - The Little Mermaid - Wicked Medley - My Mother Told Me - Valhalla Calling - Hoist the Colours - Seven Nation Army - Dream On - We Don’t Talk About Bruno - Nothing Else Matters - Enemy - Friends on the Other Side - Carry On Wayward Son - You’re a Mean One Mr Grinch - This is Halloween Geoff: - Shenandoah - Monster Mash - Headless Horseman - I See Fire - Misty Mountains Cold - Folsom Prison Blues - Man of Constant Sorrow - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen - Sound of Silence But honestly you can’t go wrong with anything they do. As far as I’m concerned, they’re at the top of the acapella game.
VoicePlay are the theater kids. Home Free are the country boys and PTX are the popular kids. The Bass Gang isn't part of the Acapella Golden Trifecta but they're running a close 4th followed by Voctave. I love VoicePlay's covers of Queen In 5 Minutes, Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas and Dream On by Aerosmith. Their Little Mermaid medley is great too.
Just subbed for more VoicePlay and Geoff! Try VP's Hoist the Colours, Warriors, Nothing Else Matters, Seven Nation Army, Valhalla Calling... and so many more! For Halloween, you should see In the Hall of the Mountain King... they go all out!
Great call on the headphones! You're a smart listener to realize how much difference it makes, especially when Geoff goes subharmonic! So glad I subscribed. Such a good reaction!
@@nickhiggsthesinger Truly! And when Geoff hits one of his B0s, you feel it more than you hear it, like in "Valhalla Calling!" It's almost like a purr.
@@nickhiggsthesinger Really. Seriously. Not to mention the fact that you did this with _only one_ earbud in! This song in particular (but also many others) uses stereo effects, so you're missing tons of nuances like this. Always use proper headphones for music reactions, especially a capella ones. That said, enjoy the Voiceplay rabbit hole. They're awesome, and they have a _lot_ of cool stuff in their back catalog, with more coming out all the time.
Just popped in because I love seeing how people react to Geoff's range in this song, and yours was wonderful. I have had a look though the comments so far and there are a lot of wonderful suggestions there already. So I will just skip those and move on to some other that I think you would like. To start off head over to Geoff's channel and have a look at his rendition of "Monster Mash" such a fun song. Also if you haven't yet checked out The Bass Gang then you might want to. They have done a lot of good songs. All their videos have had to make use of green screen work as the 4 members met during lock-down and formed the group. Only their most recent 4 videos did 3 of them get to meet in person for the first time. I would recommend watching those in order starting with "Arabian Nights' From Disney's Aladin, "Be Prepared" from the Lion King, "Gaston" from Beauty and the Beast, and finally they did "Friend Like Me" again from Aladin. Going to now have a wander through your catalog and see what else you have reacted to. Looking forward to see what you react to next.
I highly recommend Geoff's solo version of Shenandoah. It is breathtaking. And for VoicePlay I'd recommend Tennessee Whiskey, Bridge Over Troubled Water and Can't Help Falling In Love
For the Christmas season, you should check out VOCTAVE ❤ They're a choral style acapella group and one of their members does their arrangements. "O Come all Ye Faithful," "Peace on Earth," and "Carol of the Bells of Notre Dame" are a few of my favorites. EJ Cardona (one of the Voctave tenors) has collaborated with Voiceplay a couple of times.
2013 is the year Voice Play competed on the Sing Off and the winners and friends of this group are known as Home Free. While they don't do Halloween songs that I know of they are very good. I've loved both groups and you will find that the fans of Home Free (known as Home Fries) will love to see you cover them. Tim Foust the bass of Home Free went sub- harmonic on the show to help them win and worked with Geoff to improve his bass skills.
Almost all the arrangements are done by Layne (beatboxer) or Geoff, but Eli (bald tenor) has been doing more lately. Some completely different vibes for them and fantastic arrangements they have done lately include their incredible versions of 'Nothing Else Matters', a Geoff arrangement, 'Creep' an Eli arrangement and 'In the Air Tonight', a Layne arrangement. Nothing Else Matters and In the Air also include J None as their 'featured performer', he played one of the minions here and left about two years ago to join the US Navy, but has been coming back more and more lately to feature with them. (You saw him in "Hellfire' also, although he didn't get that much of a chance to shine in that one). A lot of people will call Geoff the 'gateway drug' into VoicePlay, that fantastically low yet smooth deep bass he can hit, plus his very wide range are hard to ignore. But once you start listening to them, you start to appreciate the other members as well: Eli's fantastic rock tenor a lot of times makes him overtake Geoff as the 'fan favorite' (yet to classify him simply as a tenor is unfair, he is fully capable of covering a bass line when needed), Layne's sweet baritone is always a joy to hear (he started as a singer and only took over beatboxing when the original percussionist left), and Cesar, who brings such a wide range of vocal styles, from sassy to heart-breaking tugs on your heart, is a bari/tenor, fully capable of matching Eli's superhigh notes when needed. I never felt the slightest urge to join anyone's Patreon, I am very happily a Patron for Geoff, VoicePlay and PattyCake Productions (run by Layne and former VP member Tony Wakim).
VoicePlay has some major accomplishments. Early this year they did Nothing Else Matters (Metallica (and they said it couldn't be done)), In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), an apocalyptic trilogy over 3 yrs - Warriors (Imagine Dragons), Dream On (Aerosmith), Seven Nation Army (White Stripes); Little Mermaid (Geoff plays Ursula), Hoist the Colours, Creep (Radiohead), Wicked (Broadway), Road Trip (on Tour w/the Sing-Off. get the one with 9+ mil), We're Good, Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Valhalla Calling (Miracle of Sound), In the Hall of the Mountain King (Edvard Grieg 1875) complete with trolls and cauldron.
They're line-up in this song is Geoff as Oogie Boogie (obviously); minion in red is Eli (rhymes with jelly as another said) - tenor; minion with perfect cackle is Earl - high tenor (no longer with the group, not really found out why); leather jacket is JNone - baritone I think (he was a guest here, later a full member until he joined the Navy Choir, still guests when able), and lastly Layne as Zero - vocal percussionist who arranged this one and occasionally gifts us with his singing voice. Layne is co-owner of Pattycake Productions (where most of the videos are shot) with former member Tony Wakim (who prefers behind the camera to in front of it) This is the video I generally recommend to people when i tell them about VP just because it is fun and you more easily notice Geoff's range. But to hear Eli in full "rock god" mode, either "Dream On" or "Valhalla Calling". The group tends to always have a guest for a fifth voice, and they always do an excellent job of helping their guest to SHINE while still sounding amazing 🤩 😍 (Edited due to tired typo)
Suggestions for songs to react to next: hoist The Colors, My Mother Told Me, Valhalla Calling, And pretty much just any of their songs. Their all great
I liked your thought full and incite full reaction. I think you would find Geoff Castellucci's recently released version of "Jack's Lament" from the Nightmare before Christmas a great follow up to this and many more videos. Voiceplay also has a plethora of videos such as the Phantom of the Opera, Superstition, The Little Mermaid, Hoist the Colors and so many more. I look forward to your rabbit hole journey.
I'm always ever so happy when someone discovers our "theater kids". The theatricality they put into their videos, and their vocal performances, always shine and entertain. My suggestion for a reaction is a bit out of the box from those I have seen thus far. I would suggest that you tackle their Wicked Medley. It's a bit unusual for VoicePlay, in that they have not one feature artist but two. Both are artists they have worked with, extensively, in the past, and both are phenomenal singers in their own rite. That one is a Geoff arrangement, and one he worked on for quite some time before he found the voices he thought could do the performances justice. He was not wrong.
Good headphones are essential to listening to any a cappella music, but especially VoicePlay since Geoff does so much subharmonic stuff and they love to play with the spatial landscape as well. They will often bounce the sound between the left and right ears.
Loved your reaction and analysis. Voiceplay are my absolute favorite. For some song suggestions Valhalla calling, Nothing else matters, in the air tonight, creep, wicked medley, hellfire and Christmas don’t be late. All of their music is great. The one I suggested have their current line up of singers. Geoff -bass Layne-vocal percussion/baritone Eli-tenor 1 and Cesar tenor2/baritone. They are short one member so they feature guest singers. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
Oh yes, I would really appreciate a lot, if you would do more reactions for Voiceplay and Geoff. I love your insights and details, which adds more worth to every music video. So happy, that you will use proper headphones in future 🤗
After you finish their Halloween catalogue (and please do include Hall of the Mountain King, which made my jaw drop and my cheeks hurt from laughing) do pop over to Geoff’s channel for his God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. I think you’ll really enjoy his take. Like so many here have already said, between VoicePlay and Geoff, you can point and click, there are no bad choices. Discovered you a week or so ago, subscribed right away. Your analyses are great!
Geoff's range is sick and ALL the members have great voices, each add their own particular magic to these productions. The reason I especially love Voice Play is because they are so theatrical. Their productions are a feast for the ears AND the eyes. I hope folks listen to their other songs and Geoff also performs solo . . his FAR OVER THE MISTY MOUNTAIN is outstanding. I love seeing reactions when Geoff hits those low notes. His vocal instrument is GOD given and so fabu.
I LOVE VoicePlay!! You’ve managed to pick two songs in a row where Geoff has the lead throughout the song, but usually all of them take turns singing. They have so many great songs! For Halloween, they have so many great songs to pick from, but I want to suggest “In the Hall of the Mountain King”. Some character voices there too, but it’s amazing! You’ll get to hear their normal voices when Halloween is over 😊.
And yes, you absolutely should react to “Christmas Don’t Be Late!” Much easier on the ears than the chipmunks version. Their featured artist tours with Hamilton. They threw in some VoicePlay original lyrics to boot! In response to your question if there is anything Geoff’s voice can’t do, that’s a no, there isn’t! He even does overtones in another VoicePlay Halloween cover, Kidnap the Sandy Claws (or something like that, also from Nightmare Before Christmas).
So glad you've found VoicePlay. They're my favourite of these groups (hotly followed by Home Free and Voctave - and the slowly rising The Bass Gang). VP had a member leave to join the military for a while, so a lot of their songs now feature a different guest artist in his place until he returns, helping to showcase loads of tallent - it really brings out their creative side too. My favourite for just beautiful, heartfelt singing is "I can't make you love me" and I love their Disney stuff. Brilliant. Dragonborn Comes and Hoist the Colours, along with their more recent and incredibly unique "Drunken Sailor" arrangement are superb. You can't go wrong with their stuff - I look forward to seeing you head down the rabbit hole even futher.
Love it!! To me the creativity of VoicePlay's arrangements is unmatched. I enjoyed of other acapella groups a lot, but VoicePlay's songs always make me most excited because they are always so many unexpected details in the music. The tempo, the harmonies, and etc. and so many intricacies in their songs. So definitely worth listen several times with good headphones to appreciate all the details. I love them and hopefully you will do more of their music!! And I definitely recommend Christmas don't be late!! It's super fun and the featured singer DeeJay Young is mind-bogglingly good and he is currently a contestant in "The Voice" TV show!
Yes, totally recommend over-the-ears headphones when listening to Voice Play and Geoff's videos. They have incredible sound mixing and the way they divide it up between the ears or pan back and forth is just mind-boggling sometimes. It's definitely another exquisite layer to the entire experience. Anything you choose from them is going to be fabulous. Enjoying watching your journey!
Welcome to the amazing world of Voiceplay. They are exceptionnal at what they do, so talented. A few suggestions among my favs: Moana Medley, Little Mermaid Medley, If I Were a Rich Man/Girl, Creep, In the Hall of the Mountain King. But really, just pick one and go from there. We'll be watching and rating!
If you think Geoff's bass is cool, The Bass Gang blow him out the water with their depth and range. A great place to start is their cover of Emperor's New Clothes, it features a B0!!!!!!!!!!!
I love love this video! It’s hard to believe this is the same group that made Valhalla Calling. If you slow down the video at about 2:30 “I might just cook a special batch of snake and spider stew” you can see snakes and spiders coming from Geoff’s mouth. 6:20 When Geoff throws his head back into full malevolent “I’m the Oogie Boogie Man” it’s musical theatre perfection. Santa was played by Geoff’s next door neighbor.
Yes Voiceplay! I love their Little Mermaid Medley and also their arrangement of If I Was A Rich Man, but honestly anything you choose from them is gonna be a treat. Geoff also has renditions of Blackbird and Bear Necessities that I could listen to for days!
Great reaction... Welcome to VoicePlay! They have an incredible assortment of theatrical productions: Hoist the Colors and as others have said, Nothing Else Matters, Valhalla Calling and My Mother Told Me are also exceptional.
Headphones 🎧 are required...😂 especially listening to everyone and hearing each voice distinctly. My first Voice Play cover was Grim Grinning Ghosts 👻 I was hooked 🪝ever since the rabbit 🐇 hole 🕳 opened up and swallowed me whole. I am completely in love with Voice Play! 🥰🤟🏻
I would venture to say that you'd LOVE an amazing group called The Bass Gang. They're phenomenal!! Voiceplay is killer!! And this is their older stuff!
I love Voiceplay! I definitely suggest watching VoicePlay's version of "This is Halloween". It's just a riot. You asked what Geoff's voice can't do? He can't reach the highs that Pitta (Kang Hyung Ho) from Forestella can... You might watch the video of him singing "Phantom of the Opera" to see the disparity there... It's not the highest he hits, but it's one of the best demonstrations of his vocal style... ua-cam.com/video/RUoe1e1nsnQ/v-deo.html
You're just about to hit the trifecta .... Pentatonix, Voiceplay and Home Free!!!!!!!! Let's see ,,,, Seven Nation Army, Nothing Else Matters are two of the greats!!!
Listen to Geoff's solos in songs like 'I See Fire' and 'Sound of Silence.' Also, check out HomeFree; they're amazing. Some of HomeFree's great songs include 'Everybody Walkin' This Land,' 'Folsom Prison Blues,' and 'Man of Constant Sorrow.' Additionally, their bassist, Tim Foust, is incredible and is often considered Geoff's rival. Tim's solo work is also great, with tracks like 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow' and 'I Dare You.
Voice play - Valhalla Calling, Hoist the colors, and so many more. Geoff Castelluci - Blackbird, Folsom Prison Blues, etc. The Bass Gang - Ding Dong, which voice play also did.
You've experienced Pentatonix, and now Geoff and VoicePlay. Don't forget the 3rd leg of modern acapella, Home Free. They are all awesome arrangements with incredibly talented singers. Or as we say in the south, they can all saaang
My top favs are Seven Nation Army, We don’t talk about Bruno, Golden Hour, In the Air Tonight… They also get the best reactions. Enjoyed this reaction. Much love.
Hey there, you commented about the character voices, I think a wonderful showcase of that was "In The Hall Of The Mountain King"... For Spooky season both voice play and Bass Gang last year did "hide and seek" both with the same guest. If you haven't listened to either of them it is worth listening to whether or not you want to make a reaction. Both groups took the same song to a very different area. Bass gang all 4 members are bass singers, and they also have a similarly insane range to what Geoff does, they are absolutely worth checking out. They have just released their 3rd album, which is 4 different disney songs, each with a different lead and arranger. You may have come across all 4 of them before as they also do their own solo stuff and other projects. You have Tomi P, Bobby Bass, Peter Barber and Marwan Ayman.
You should check out Geoff’s recent cover of Jack’s Lament. I already knew his range and it still blew me out of the water! Don’t forget the over-ear headphones for the full effect!
Geoff's vocal range is insanely broad, 5 octaves,. Last Halloween He did a solo version of Jack's Lament, also from Nightmare before Christmas. Smooth legato to rumbling bass all the way up to a good Rock scream in three part harmony.
I'd love you to react to their rendition of "Nothing else matters", "Valhalla calling" and "Hoist the colors". And if you're really into it, take a plunge into Geoff's solo work: his latest video "Jack's Lament" is pure art and beauty.
I'M Sure I couldn't say anything that you have probably already been told. I love A Capella music, and this is one of my favorite groups. These guys and Home Free as well. Glad you enjoyed them man.
Home Free... that's the other big a capella group right now... along with Voiceplay and Pentatonix, you're pretty much looking at the trifecta of a capella 😊
Yes. Headphones! It is absolutely necessary. Did you catch Geoff doing the riff behind Layne's "to add a little spice"? Geoff reels you in, then you realize just how freakishly talented everyone else is too.
Santa was played by Geoff's brother in law. But his voice is by Eli (rhymes with jelly) who is also a voice actor. And does the lighting in their videos. They are all multiple gifted persons... AND they are completely independent. So: noone to help but also noone directing from outside... 🎉😊❤
You compared the minions to that picture of three witches. When I saw it, I could hear that they were Lock, Shock, and Barrel, Oogie's actual minions. Even without costumes, I could pick them out.
Don't miss my Hellfire Reaction: ua-cam.com/video/5j25N50VrI0/v-deo.htmlsi=hpwUxiQW9s8jjKhh
Please react to Kidnap The Sandy Claus. It came before Oogie Boogie. The two go together.
Please react to The little mermaid medley that they do, you will finally know how vast Geoff vocal range is.
good day *nickhiggsthesinger* theres a few things i wanted to point out about voiceplay: firstly theres usually 5 members in symphonics group of acapella, sometimes 6 with added guest female vocalist(s),male guest vocalist as well as a combination of mutiple guest vocalist throughout their long stand careers. earl isnt with them currently. earl is the one with pretty voice and its super sweet. but earl can do vocal sounds,as well as singing his lower and upper ranges. he can sing in alto, soprano, and tenor musicial accompaniments. jnnone has the very soothing tenor, soprano ranges but hes normally singing his deep accents from french, jamaician and english tones respectively. btws they all have their own youtube channels as well. layne is the one with "animated preccussion sounds" but he sing while holding his own in the transitional sections. layne always playing with geoff's hair.. either by "rubbiing the top of head roughing it up" or by using one or two fingers from the side of geoff"s face removing a strand of hair out of way..and yes lol they do make eye contant in doing so(usually geoff and layne are the ones either sitting side by side or from top and bottom sitting arrangments. and the geoff.. well hes geoff lol. you either love em por hate em. however hes such a bad ass lol..
i have a few song suggestions and groups of acapella you like to listen and/or have reactions to:
*voiceplay* song "wicked," moana, "into the unknown," and "your are a mean one mr. grinch"
*Voctave*song called "90s cartoon disney medley" and "where are you christmas?" its one of their favorite songs
*pattycakeproduction musical* songs; bump in the night, villains mansion, love finds a way, the villains lair.
Watch Geoff in the background and listen really low on the line "to add a little spice" it's impressive and hardly anyone notices it.
go tell that to the charismatic voice lol, she'll flip.
Oh, and any song you decide to react to by Voice Play, you will never ever be disappointed by it. Some are even better than the original songs.
Amazing! Thank you so much. Any VoicePlay song recommendations?
@@nickhiggsthesingerI would highly recommend Valhalla Calling
Give "Seven Nation Army" a try! Very different from what you have done by them/Geoff thus far. They nail every genre (as you'll find out real quick) they tackle. Just says even more about their versatility. Best in the biz IMO 🥰
Also, fyi/note about J.None too. As Christine mentioned he has since left for the Navy, but he is still very active with them as a feature. He's basically part time for them.... if he can get off the time to record and shoot for them, he's featured. You will find his silky baritone and wide range of talents a trip I'm sure!
Also, he (J.None) is a GIANT goofball and his bromace with Layne (beatbox/composer) is the funniest/more wholesome thing ever 🥰
🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕
(Carrots- if you know you know 😉)
Who are the other big names in the acapella scene? I don't really go here but this got recommended to me and I love it, would love to expand my tastes
Hall of the Mountain King by VoicePlay is one of my favorites. Telling a story without speaking a word is master class, and VoicePlay teaches it without a pause!
That’s great, thank you 🙂
And it’s arranged and directed by Layne Stein (vocal percussionist) - the same as this video.
Yes yes YES - this one is brilliant. And so much fun!
Classical Chaos is an entertaining sequel to Mountain King.
PTX, Voiceplay, and Home Free are the 3 top modern acapella groups, IMO. They are all extraordinarily good.
Love those!!
Did you know all 3 of these were competitors in a series called The Sing-off? IIRC, Home Free and VoicePlay were in the same season and competed against each other. You can even find a collab video of the two. PTX was in a previous season but were guests in this season, helping them with a song.
Geoff's new cover of "Jack's Lament" is epic.
That’s coming out next week!
VoicePlay is the best ever, I love this group. I recommend Valhalla from these guys, You will get a wide range of vocals on that song.
I’m hoping to react to them all and make a playlist of just voiceplay 🙂
I just reacted to Hellfire last week - check it out 🙂
Yes definitely react to “Christmas Don’t Be Late” not only will you see their funny side we all love but it’s features Deejay Young who just finished touring with Hamilton and is currently a contestant on The Voice.
You should really react to all of their nightmare before Christmas stuff honestly
Two words - Home Free - Mostly country acapella but lots of other stuff, as well. Ring of fire (with Avi from Pentatonix) is a good place to start.
My favs include "Enemy", "Little Mermaid Medley", and "Wicked Medley"; although, you can never go wrong with VP.
You have to check out Nothing Else Matters and Creep, two of the most recent and best VP offerings. For Geoff solo singing high, go to Blackbird.
Hoist The Colours is the first Voiceplay masterpiece I watched and I've been down the rabbit hole ever since. Nothing Else Matters, This is Halloween, are great. If you need a good cry, I Can't make You Love Me will rip your heart out. Have fun!😊❤❤
I really need to check that one out! Thank you so much for suggesting
@@zarasha8220 It's heartbreaking as well as breathtaking. I can't listen to that song without crying.
Have you ever heard "The Bass Gang". They can so some high highs and some low lows. Their latest "Friend like me" is superb!!!
I havent reacted to them yet, but I will!!
You won't regret, and whatever you choose next, you're in for a treat. 🙂
Home Free is another super great a cappella group, and they're friends with Voiceplay since they both participated in the tv show "Sing Off" and the subsequent tour (it was the 4th season, Home Free won and Voiceplay were 4th).
See you next time!
Wow!!! Thank you so much
I suggest you take a list of all of their works and blindfold yourself, point at a place on the list, and listen to that next.
In November they will appear in concert with Chicago in Atlantic City NJ
Try Bruno, it's great!
Highly recommended, in no particular order:
Voiceplay:
- If I Were a Rich Man/Girl
- The Little Mermaid
- Wicked Medley
- My Mother Told Me
- Valhalla Calling
- Hoist the Colours
- Seven Nation Army
- Dream On
- We Don’t Talk About Bruno
- Nothing Else Matters
- Enemy
- Friends on the Other Side
- Carry On Wayward Son
- You’re a Mean One Mr Grinch
- This is Halloween
Geoff:
- Shenandoah
- Monster Mash
- Headless Horseman
- I See Fire
- Misty Mountains Cold
- Folsom Prison Blues
- Man of Constant Sorrow
- God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
- Sound of Silence
But honestly you can’t go wrong with anything they do.
You just heard Geoff's 5 octave range! Love your reactions! You are one of my top reactors! Thank you! ❤
Great call on the headphones! You're a smart listener to realize how much difference it makes, especially when Geoff goes subharmonic! So glad I subscribed. Such a good reaction!
Thank you! You really get the full scope of the bass with better headphones
They are only the Best!!!!
That perfect cackle was Earl. I agree. The execution and the timing of it was impeccable.
To get an idea of how they work with other artists and a Geoff arrangement I'd suggest The Wicked Medley with two female guest singers.
Layne is co-owner of Pattycake Productions (where most of the videos are shot) with former member Tony Wakim (who prefers behind the camera to in front of it)
This is the video I generally recommend to people when i tell them about VP just because it is fun and you more easily notice Geoff's range. But to hear Eli in full "rock god" mode, either "Dream On" or "Valhalla Calling".
The group tends to always have a guest for a fifth voice, and they always do an excellent job of helping their guest to SHINE while still sounding amazing 🤩 😍
(Edited due to tired typo)
Suggestions for songs to react to next: hoist The Colors, My Mother Told Me, Valhalla Calling, And pretty much just any of their songs. Their all great
Awesome suggestions, thank you so much!
Dragonborn comes, please, please. Creep. Nothing else matters. All the Viking songs. Hoist the colors. ❤🎉
If you check their video descriptions you will see who arranged the songs,, usually it's Geoff or Layne.
Awesome, thank you 😊
"This Is Halloween," would be a good one right now, as well as "Jack's Lament," sung by Geoff.
Wow thank you for those suggestions!! I will add them to the list 🙂
Their bass singer, Geoff Castellucci has his own channel where he makes his own music, which you should totally check out 😎
Yes! He’s amazing
Adore VP. Adored your reaction. This is one of my top 5 VP productions. So hard to pick a favorite
Thank you for watching!!
My personal favorite of VoicePlays is “Creep” . Cesar takes center stage in this one.
I’ll check it out, thanks!!
I started with Pentatonix but now Voiceplay bets them hands down and is getting better and better
They're both great!
Try Tennessee whiskey it really shows of all their voices and Geoff's riffs are........
Everyone else has already given you loads of useful information, so I'll just say I'm enjoying your reactions tremendously!
Voice play has an absolute blast with their songs.
He’s actually said (in his How to sing low q&a) that it’s not overtones, but very high subharmonics.😊
Everything about this is stellar! VoicePlay rules Halloween with their offerings. Each has a unique flavor
The Bass Gang is an excellent suggestion. They’ve just finished their 3rd volumn of videoes and they just keep getting better.
I think my favorite thing is watching people's faces on Geoff's last note. His range is absolutely insane.
Goeff did the arrangement on this song. Him and layne usally do the song arrangements. Eli usually does the lighting. Geoffs wife does costumes
Be sure to check out Geoff's new release of Jack's Lament if you haven't had a chance yet.
Coming out soon!
Oh yes! React to that Christmas song! I hate the Chipmunk's version (the voices just grate on me) but love the Voiceplay one!
Will do!!!
@@nickhiggsthesinger Sweet! But holy moley, is Christmas already THAT close? Eeek!
Voiceplay's cover of I Can't Make You Love Me is SO good!
Thanks for taking the time to be a reactor. Suggestions: If I Were A Rich Man/Woman, Phantom Of The Opera.
I love how your reaction to the higher notes was exactly the same as mine. He's just too good to be allowed!
It's always a pleasure to see people rreacting to this fire song.
"is there anything your voice can't do?"
"queen of the night aria" --Geoff, probably.
You should listen to Home Free as well. Mayday is a good one.
For a beautiful display of Geoff's full range, check out his High and Dry and Blackbird!
You should check out Geoff’s recent cover of Jack’s Lament. I already knew his range and it still blew me out of the water!
Don’t forget the over-ear headphones for the full effect!
Voiceplay vids to check out: ALL OF THEM! But for real: My Mother Told Me, Hoist the Colors (my favorite), and Carry On My Wayward Son
all thanks too The Charismatic Voice for talking about this group
Voiceplay typically does a good job putting all the credits and such in the description
Try singing the mongolian anthem. I saw your french anthem singing and oh man, your voice is stunning!
Thank you so much
