Was shaken to the core by Swan Song and McCormicks The Road which began my love affair with Post Apocalyptic GrimDark. GoodReads recommended the Corbett series and so threw the dice. A gamble that returned disturbing dreams, as human irrationality seems am essential spice of GrimDark Evil. Your mention of Swan earned my subscription, as did Steven Paceys narration (Audible) of the Blade series (Lawrence). Severing the Wheat from the Chaff of too many mediocre writers, your imput is of great value. Sincere thanks.

I love the series! I never thought I would have liked it, but the Corbett series is among my favorites.

"Bedlam" is my favorite in the series, followed closely by "Mask." That may change, because I still have "Cardinal" and "Shadows" to read. And I believe the very last Matthew book will be a collection of the short stories you find in the limited Sub Press editions.
I know there is a collection coming, and I think the next novel is the last novel.

Can I read The Queen of Bedlam first instead of Speaks the night bird?
I wouldn’t recommend it. You would be fine, but Speaks is so good, and definitely helps to develop Corbett as a character.
