Very helpful. I now understand it much better, also what might trigger it.
Sadly I just experienced having it triggered as I was washing my hands. So despite my repeating attempts at pressing the "cancel" button as the 15 seconds were counting down, it never registered them, which ended up sending an emergency message to my mom at 1am in the night.
-_-
Glad to know that it works, though. So there's that.
So it doesn't just work during these workout modes but all the time? Or were you in a workout mode when it triggered washing your hands?
@@LaurenceGough It is some time ago now. But for as far as I remember, it happened after I had ended the session.
It has to be said, that since I removed the emergency messages from simple "walk" training type, and them on every other training type, it has not happened since.
I've now turned mine off after a couple of false alarms where I tripped but didn't require assistance (the first when I simply tripped on a kerb within a couple of feet of my car). However, it took me far longer than 15 seconds to work out what was happening; meanwhile the watch did its stuff alerting my nearest and dearest and leading them to believe that I was seriously hurt. I then had to spend a long time fielding calls and messages checking that I was okay. It is a great feature, but it needs a longer delay - maybe two minutes. If you are going to use it, I'd advise watching this video and being very clear how to cancel before you check your own health - yes I know that you should be more interested in whether you've broken something but Garmin has needs!
It was great if Garmin let fenix 6 send messages without mobile network I mean use iridium satellite network because most of outdoor activities are out of mobile network range. Hope Garmin will think for this to facilitate the user. Thanks
Hi, I'd like to point out that the Incident Detection feature went off while cycling, I had to stop and cancel it before sending everyone in panicking mode. Though it proves that it works, it still needs improvements to avoiding miss-reading.
Kind regards,
Florin
this is I disabled it, it was triggering itself when I was just breaking fast
I was fencing my garden & it went off while I was pounding fence posts in.
thank you for your video. Question. Is it possible to send second or third incident alert without first canceling current one? I am asking for someone who is technically challenged and will not be able to make a few button clicks to deactivate the alarm. Thank you
I have found that once I cancel my incident detection during an activity, it also cancels my ride. Is there a way around this? If the alert is sent because of a sudden stop and not an emergency, can I cancel the alert and continue my activity with garmin?
@get-excited True. I was pissed off a while ago when my run was stopped as.I barked back at a barking dog.
What if you are in an area with no internet or cell coverage?
It helped, thanks a lot really. This feature is a must turn-on specially in my case as most of time I’m mountain biking alone!
What does it take for the watch to trigger the assistance alert? Mountain biking imply many small bike jumps and harsh landings, will the watch detects those as a fall?
Yeah I’m wondering if it will trigger if I for instance land to flat or case really hard
This is a great question. It's hard to know for sure because you are riding on different terrain. Your question prompted me to test this on a trail near my house and no incidents were detected during my ride. I tried to perform some small jumps and harsh landings. Hopefully you have the same results if you use incident detection. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for watching and please consider liking and subscribing!
“Gauging Gadgets “ ?!? Don’t know how I typed that ! :-) thanks for the extra testing again.
Jacob Shepherd it must be designed to trigger at an impact of a high G.
@@GaugingGadgets it should use satellite networks to send messages because the most of the areas are out of the range of mobile network. It can save more lives if Garmin let fenix 6 use iridium or other satellite networks to send messages
Thanks. Great video 😃
I have the Garmin VivoActive 3 and don't see this setting on my Garmin Connect app. Does the Vivoactive 3 have this? thanks!
It does not. The VA3Music does however.
Hey mate does the watch have to be in a training mode for the incident detection to work? I work on my own a lot and this would be an awesome feature if something happened to me.
Just an FYI dthis doesn't work. I fell while running as I had a seizure & had a heat stroke because I was laid out for nearly an hour. Don't rely on this for anything at all other than a gimmick, just like the "stress level". It's a gimmick that does not work.
@@molly461 did you turn on incident detection?
Hey man I'm trying to set up the system. I added my dad as an emergency contact but when u test out the features on the garmin. On the connect app is says I have contacts added but on the watch it says set up in garmin connect mobile. Any help?
I try hardly set up on my Garmin Fenix 5 and I have different menu and I can't see the incident detection on menu. What do I do wrong? Thank you
Me too
@@karen-annelittle7712 me too
Menu > settings > safety > incident detection
That is on my garmin fenix 5 plus
does this works on fenix 5x?
thanks...
Thank you, it works on Garmin forerunner 945 too.
Just an FYI this doesn't actually work. I fell while running as I had a seizure & had a heat stroke because I was laid out for nearly an hour in the heat. Don't rely on this for anything at all other than a gimmick, just like the "stress level". It's a gimmick that does not work.
@Molly Thank you I was thingking to buy this one for seziure tracking I’ll look in tomothers
"During an activity".... Huge fail. My dad doesn't know when he's going to have a heart attack in and be unconscious. Samsung Galaxy 5 for detection and response is always on.... You don't have to tell the watch that you're running biking or walking first. HUGE fail from Garmin. That was our deal breaker as it has other features such as texting GPS location
Thanks so much, super helpful!!
so when i crash with the motorbike, it doesnt send an alarm? do i have to chose an activity?
Did you ever find out?
How do you add an activity type that isn't on the watch list? Only run, trail run, bike, walk, and hike are listed.
U cant bud, its only the pre set ones for this
You can enter it manually. I have done for my wheelchair.
My problem while activating this service is, that the point "safety & tracking" is missing in my app. What can I do? Is this service not available in Austria maybe?
Sorry to hear that. Which device are you using?
@@GaugingGadgets I'm using the Fenix 5 with a Huawei P10
Same problem here fenix 5
I domt think this feature is on the Fenix 5
I used to have this feature on my fenix 5 but it has disappeared for some reason.
I dont have safety and tracking in my app... wth
Got mine set up but nothing is showing on the watch none of the contacts, any suggestions why ?
Try restarting the watch and syncing it. That might help
What happens if you fall with only 10% battery left on your Garmin watch?
I was pounding fence posts in & it went off! My word! Freaked me out! Had to hurry & shut it off before I had the police come rushing to keep fencing my garden.
Wait what it calls the police too?
Not working on 5/5S/5X.. Requires at least "5 Plus" series.
Can you set up Assistance but leave the Incident Detection off?
Yes, this is how I use it.
Unfortunately run, ride stops even if It was a false alert and I cancelled it 😢😢
I don't have this option on my app I have a fenix 5. Can anyone help?
same here
Unfortunately run ,ride stops even if it was a false alert.
That's dumb that you can't remove someone and their data. How limiting Garmin.
Incident detection is pointless because you have to carry your phone lol the whole point of a running watch is to not carry your phone, now if garmin was to make it where they use your GPS location without the use of phone would be cool
GPS works on Garmin watches without a phone. Incident detection requires your phone because it needs the cell signal to send a message.
@@GaugingGadgets thats what i mean, I own a forerunner 245 music and I don't take my phone out when running so the incident detection becomes pointless.
@@hawkeye7697 It's not pointless me for me....
I it’s pointless then if your phone has to be in range why not just use your phone 🤷🏼♂️
Because this is automatic, and you could be unconscious or otherwise inured and not able to use your phone......
It's a nice feature and makes me comfortable as a female that sometimes runs alone at night.

@@molly461 Sounds like you have a defective watch/phone.
this is pretty lame actually. needs to work without cell phone
Does this work with 5s sapphire?
