- I'm going to try Karnov's Revenge ONE more time only because you guys mentioned that the SECRET boss at the end of the arcade mode! And he's an OX...? This has to be up there with one of the most obscure secret bosses I've ever challenged!

So basically, this fight is a reference to the Data East game Karate Champ, which had a bonus stage where you fight an ox. And Fighter's History does that kind of thing again in the SNES exclusive. After you defeat Karnov, you fight Chelnov, the main character from the run-and-gun platformer Atomic Runner Chelnov, also a Data East game

I actually remember that when I used to play Karate Champ in the arcades. can't remember if the nes version had the bull in it too.
There's more to the bull story. The creator of Kyoukushin Karate Masutatsu Oyama fought a Bull in real life. This is referenced in a movie called Karate Fighter I believe the other title is Champions of Death which Stard the Legend Sonny Chiba. It had 2 sequels last being Karate For Life which had the main character fight a bear and won by removing his eye. That's where Kuma came from.
One of this series’ coolest points is that each fighter speaks in their native language. Except Karnov, who is from another dimension or maybe just the Data East offices.

White isn't that hard most because he IA it's free (in terms of tools it's worst that Nightmare Geese), but would be worthy only to see Justin's reaction after "THAT"
This fight is a reference to the Karate Master Mas Oyama. The founder of the Kyokushin Style. He fought bulls bare handed to promote karate. He could supposedly hit the horns off the head of the bull.
It's also a reference to Data East & Technos Japan's Karate Champ, generally considered to be the first "traditional" fighting game, which featured a bonus stage where you fight an ox.
@@TheLandofObscusion This game, that is from 94, is just another one that got in the crossover bandwagon after Ryo showed up in Fatal Fury Special (93). There's the Ox, and there's Karnov himself, that is a character from an action/adventure game. This type of crossover is less similar to Ryo in FF or Akuma in Xmen (both fgs) but rather more similar to Athena in KoF or Strider in MvC (totally different genre).
Mas Oyama the man who ryu from street fighter, takuma sakazaki from art of fighting and doppo orochi from Baki are base on as he was one of the biggest faces of karate history

He should have added as a bouns a deliberate failed match just to see the Ox flex, also a funny thing, using hacks if you play as Ox, the narrator says as his name "Big Tornado" (yeah, Ray's proyectile move), he has a defeated Ray mugshot in the character select + results screen, HOWEVER losing a match using Ox will crash the game.

The Ox is a reference to Mas Oyama the Kyokushin master. He would train with oxen and once struck one hard enough to "sheer" off a horn they say. That's why the horns come off and it gets dizzy. Lol

Can you do the secret Ryo boss fight in Fatal Fury Special? If you want to fight him then you can't lose a single round. Ryo crossing over in Fatal Fury Special is what inspired the idea to make KOF. It's an important piece of fighting game history.

It's really called Fighters' History. But this game, the sequel to the original FH1, has the subtitle "Karnov's Revenge", that became the most common way to refer to it. Kinda like saying only "Third Strike", which isn't the real full name of the game.

I remember playing this game for the first time, and it was a nightmare dealing with the ai at first. I had to learn a few moves and combos with Mizoguchi.

SNK probably copied Ray's shoulder charge to make Terry's Power Charge, that was only made in FF3 from 95 (FH is from 93-94). Although Ray's wheel kick was almost surely copied from Hanzo from WH (92).

I'd love to see what you could do with Fighter's Impact (the game Japan go meanwhile North America got VS. ) or what I consider one of the worst fighters Battle Masters (not the gundam game). It's for PS1 and there's a Pink haired girl on the cover. to get the true ending you have to grind to build a mech and fight other mechs. Sounds cool but...

4min in and i see you havent utilized the stun ability. Also didnt see you do 1 special. Some characters have more tyan 1. Misoguchi has a charged fireball and a super dragon punch. His skills and atk is very similar to ken and ryu's style. This game is the sequel to fighters dynamite history. Love this game🤩🤩🤩

Ryoko is a very interesting grappler considering the "fg conventions" around the early 90s fg scene. Ryoko from FH and WH are the first "little girl fighters" and the first female grapplers in all fg history.
At that time fgs were only pushing girls with a strong "trained fighter" aura like Chun Li, Mai, King, Cammy, etc... Also not too young girls. The FH Ryoko looks even younger than the WH version.
The first type of younger female made by SNK that broke down that "convention" was Yuri, in 94. And Capcom made Sakura only in 96. They feel like they are having fun and have a silly and clumsy factor added to their fighting on purpose. So those two giant fg companies were late to that character type innovation started by FH and WH.
And SNK and Capcom made their first female grapplers only after the mid 90s. So both were late also in this case.

Evil Zone: Not the hardest fighting game, but it's definitely unique.
Real Bout Fatal Fury Dominated Mind: Someone mentioned this already, and I agree with this. I fought the boss on the easiest difficulty, and it was still really cheap lol. Definitely one of the worst bosses in SNK history for sure.
Destrega: 3D arena fighter, but might not be up your alley. Takes a couple hours to get through too.
Touhou 12.3 Hisoutensoku: One of my most played fighters for like 8 years on and off, though the AI isn't...really that great, while Story Mode can get pretty rough (also only stuck with 3 characters in that game for story).
Soul Calibur III: Night Terror. Just try to fight him on the hardest difficulty if possible.
Capcom Fighting Evolution: Getting to your superboss for this game is...hard. But you can do it! I don't know if he's going to be as hard as any other time you've fought him though.
Guilty Gear Accent Core: Getting to Order-Sol. Good...luck.
Guilty Gear (the original): Haha!! Without save states, not seeing ya getting to the superboss.
Also, I know you fought Red Arremer in SVC Chaos, but have you fought Athena yet?? Just to complete that game (hope you get to fight Demitri too : V ). If you haven't seen Midnight Bliss, then you don't know what you're missing~ Just to see your reaction to that in the 3 games Demitri is in would be great and be enough for a video alone lol.

You have to play "Fighters History: Mizoguchi Kiki Ippatsu!!" someday, in that game the final boss is not Karnov or that Ox XDD is someone called Chelnov who is a character from another game called Atomic Runner, I think he is a little more difficult.

Meanwhile Jago from Killer Instinct (2013) has Windkick, goes trough fireballs and heavy kick version covers the whole screen, it was safe on block for most of the game's life until it was nerfed on one of the last patches.

@@jeremyroberts8822 I mean safe doesn’t mean his turn. Ken H tatsu in v-trigger in 5 is full screen and safe, but he loses his turn (unless he decides to risk losing 50% hp to go for the DP/throw mix-up)
Ray’s is also safe and a DP btw it has such a small amount of endlag it’s almost 0 on whiff it’s crazy.

No BS this game in an arcade is so hard because a lot of the hits you land with any character feels like chip damage. It starts off like if it's gonna be similar to Snk with their button scheme, and similar to SF 2 by the character select. Unfortunately once you get going it feels like your inputs are getting eaten. You special moves don't work all the time. You do any normal hits and it feels like your giving AI chip damage. They do massive damage or end up letting you get a win but immediately start being cheap after one round.

If not, then HOO BOY, are you in for a fun time with that one.
That is easily the Hardest Boss Version of Geese I've ever seen.
I would argue he's debatably worse than Geese in Art of Fighting II, and that's saying a lot.

Good ole Fighter's History/Karnov's Revenge... Another fighting game that needs a remake.
It was a game that deserved to have a "next gen" sequel in the mid/late 90s. That would have probably redeemed it for the SF copied ideas in this first game, and that harmed its image.
"Next gen" sequel in the same sense of SFA, FF3, SS3, AOF3, PI3, etc... big graphics update and gameplay refinements. Even minor fgs from the mid 90s had fairly mature gameplay ideas, like Breakers, Ninja Masters, etc.

Please do a playthrough and mastery of weapon lord for snes. Fantastic game from back in the day with both positive and negative edge special moves (think primal rage,mixed with sf2) but fatalities are done as result of combos after life full depletion. I remember doing crazy fatality combos that first disemboweled them,then chopped off their head. I could then smash their haed apart and leave their brain flying through the air, then catch that andsice it apart..... it's a very well done and beautiful game.i remember it being pretty hard.... my brother and I played hjndred of matches against each other and had a lot figured out. To this day, some 30 years later,we both remember that game and have good times talking about it.

There's a Ryoko in both World Heroes and Fighters' History. Because they are based on a real Japanese female judo fighter called Ryoko. So this is the same common case of a fg using a real life martial artist (sometimes closely or loosely). Only less notorious as Bruce Lee, Mike Tyson, etc.
