That was a masterclass presentation and a comprehensive overview of the team’s situation this season. It’s hard for me to add more, but I always knew the strange squad composition this season would come back to haunt us eventually. Three wingers playing as forwards, talent overload in some positions while others remain completely empty, depth in midfield but a lack of depth in defense and attack. What a dilemma. I agree with you that the 4-3-3 will work for next season with better full-backs, but for now the 4-4-2 diamond is clearly the best option. Carlo has tried everything BUT coaching... He has NO system, barely rotates players, horrible decision making in game consistently! He refuses to drop a player who has shitted on the team from DAY ONE, doesn't press, misses 98% of chances afforded to him and literally costing the team points. So much so that our best player, Jude is now opening showing frustration at him during games and RIGHTFULLY SO. Our new CB from the Castilla R.A shows Carlo's stubbornness, he doesn't get credit for playing him, HE HAD ABSOULTELY NO CHOICE. That's the ONLY reason that we've seen him and Raul has been the only good news this season, yet Carlo continues to play that waste of space L.V at Rb, SURELY we've been hearing about a generational RB in our youth system and he hasn't gotten a call up because Carlo has tunnel vision, he CANNOT do worse than Lucas. Oh btw, don't get me started on Fran vs Mendy...None of them are good enough, Mendy was clear because he was an absolute ROCK defensively but now that has gone...Fran is NOT a better player, every time he touches the ball he treats it like a hot potato. He crosses more than Mendy, sure but how many of his crosses actually reach their target and aren't overcooked or blocked by the first man? Moving on to Endrick that only gets garbage time when the team is down....Carlo has no shame or respect for the kid. He at least gives the team effort and heart! two of the most important things a footballer needs, that Kylian is NOT doing, he barely makes basic runs, doesn't press but spints into a fake press to make ppl think he's actually trying for two seconds but does absolutely nothing to make any sort of impact, can't dribble, horrible first touch....are we sure he isn't a double agent? Things look THAT bad currently... Don't even let me start on how he's treated Guler. Carlo is running Jude into the ground! He has to cover for Kylian EVERY GAME and Fran/Mendy at LB, he is all over the pitch doing the job of 6 players...It's not sustainable. I'm with you. I agree with EVERY single point you've made. The fall from grace between this season and the last has been an absolute travesty to watch. I mean just a slow, agonizing, sick kind of torture. The management of our squad and the coaching decisions made week in and week out have been terrible. We pride ourselves on how well our club is run from top to bottom but this season has been riddled with poor decisions everywhere. Some players look tired and overworked -- completely crestfallen, while others look frustrated and bored rotting on the bench. You're correct about Ancelotti. He has ran out of solutions. Point of correction on Liverpool, Klopp resigned-they didn't sack him. Back to Ancelotti, part of his issues is over-reliance on individual talents instead of a system. That isn't bad, but a team without a drilled system is more vulnerable when hit by injuries. Playing out of pressure has been the team's nemesis - strange for a team with decent number of players with technical qualities.
Real Madrid always took a pride in outside positions, for 20 years we had two left backs, world class in fact, in Roberto Carlos and Marcelo, same as for the right back, Michel Salgado and Dani Carvajal, those positions are crucial for a modern football and we aren't there with current players. I would also 100% agree on Carlo Ancelotti, all the credit to him, but in football things are working until they don't, and there is no shame in that, its a natural course of things, it happened to Mourinho, it happened to Klopp etc...Hopefully and respectfully we can make a switch toward younger coach with modern football views in summer. Madrid needs to play Endrick as a starting striker, he has the talent and skills of a 9 and drops deep to collect the ball, he can hold IP play and attract defenders while freeing up other attackers to strike.
I still fail to see this so-called "crisis" at Madrid. We have to put things into perspective, even though Carlo is one of our most successful coaches ever we always knew that he was going to be a placement holder for Xabi Alonso, it just so happened that through all the noise he still managed to pull off a treble, (I don't care what anyone says, we got a treble last season), after that you'll be criminal to give him the axe after that. Now we all know Carlo is not a master tactician but whatever he's done so far and whatever he's doing now matters not at this point in time. He and the rest of the boys deserve to have a bad season. We're still going to finish in a CL spot, the league is by no means over, we'll probably get through the group stage of the CL and maybe even get to the 1/4 final or something. He has depended on individual brilliance in his entire coaching career without building any proper style of playing. Any team can lose a match but the manner in which Madrid loses with these caliber of players is frustrating and difficult to watch, very mediocre. It’s never the problem of the 4-3-3 but the way Carlo executed it wrong with the wrong player selection on such a lineup. We don’t have a genuine left footed right winger to stretch the field and he mistakenly played Guler there all the time. Rodrigo and Brahim should be the ones who play there and they shouldn’t be allowed the freedom to roam to central or left but stay there that’s how a 4-3-3 work

Finally! People are starting to realize how ineffective Tchouameni is. Spending 80 million on him has resulted in nothing! The hype surrounding him was exaggerated. As soon as he returned to the midfield, he brought instability to the team. It has to Valverde-Ceballos or Camavinga-Ceballos (Ceballos can be replaced later-we can find a player with the quality of Kroos, Xabi, or Zidane). At the moment, Ceballos is capable of controlling the tempo of the game and he is a press-resistant midfielder (not the best, 80/100) who can pass effectively. We need to make some changes: Mendy, Tchouameni(or turn him into an RB or CB but he is not a starting 11-player ATM), Militao, Lucas, and Arda should be out or on loan accordingly. Rodrigo needs to go as well; we require a pacey, tall left-footed dribbler like Di Maria or Bale. Additionally, we need a center-back and a right-back. To buy some time until a new left-back arrives, we could move Alaba to left-back, hoping he will be fit to play by January. Ik non of these are likely to happen but this is just my thought.
Great analysis as usual. Just wanted to mention the two players at the top of my wishlist for CB. First one is Murillo from Nottingham Forest. He has been fantastic. He would likely cost us a pretty penny (€40m?) since his contract still has several years on it, but he is 22 and a Brazilian who would fit well in the squad. An alternative is Upamecano. His contract expires in 2026, and while it might be a challenge negotiating with Bayern, the player can probably be convinced, and BM won’t want to take the chance of losing him for free summer of 26. He is in his mid 20s, and would have Camavinga and Mbappe to help him settle in. For left back, I know Davies is on the radar but Rayan Aït-Nouri has been impressive and I think he would be very useful. Ultimately I think what would be best is for Xabi Alonso to be the next manager, and for him to select the missing pieces.

Tchouameni needs to play in defence. Camavinga is better suited for our system. Kylian needs to sit on the bench for a few games, maybe work with a sports psychologist because he is overthinking. The youngsters need playing time. Arda brings in risky passes that we need to break down defences. Bobby needs to play to get used to being roughed up and control his temper. TAA has improved his defensive work. Fede can cover him when he goes forward. For a CB, I think Tah could be a decent addition. Rudiger can help with his integration.
In terms of injuries, I really want to talk about how the players train indoors. Some leg workouts they are strenuous on the knee. For example, leg press. They just really jump on these. Physio needs to held accountable on that for sure.

The only change at this moment is to sack him and bring back Ziedan as a care taker for the rest of the season. There are soo many problems. I agree we should stick with Carlo until the end of the season. The fullback situation is horrendous. Neither one of our available fullbacks is RM level. It hurt us in midfield as well. Jude and fede have to help Lucas fran/mendy. A top CB is needed, a bastoni, saliba, Gabriel or jorrel hato. Also the striker role we can't continue like this we have 3 short left wingers that dont want to be in the box. With Jude helping the leftback playing deeper, we have 0 aerial threat in the box, crossing becomes pointless. Mbappe for me was a mistake from Perez, I think he peaked too early and I think he has already played his 10 best games in his career. My fear right now is we are going to fumble the Davies trent deals, similar to Yoro because Perez will try to be cheap again.

Benching Kylian is not practical and realistic. We all know what happened to Del Bosquet when he benched Beckham . He was sacked . Perez will never allow this and whether you like it or not , Mbappe will start if he is fit Secondly benching Mbappe will make things worse for him and his confidence and we need a confident Mbappe . Good therapy session. I always thought Ancelotti wanted to finish on a high, he should have retired last season. However, no one could foretell this bad season with so much talent. I agree this should be his last season regardless of the results. He is at his best when players are in their prime because he’s more of a man manager and a motivator than a tactician. This young squad needs more instruction and structure than the freedom he usually affords his players. It’s unfortunate that he has had so many of his best players injured last season and this season, yet he still managed to perform miracles last season. This season he is failing to find rhythm. I hope he gets his full team back to have a fair shot at the season so we can judge him properly. Apparently, the club wants to keep him in some ''man manager capacity" since he has said he will retire after this job. I totally agree with you! I really wonder what happened to Tchouameni. He is so shockingly bad this season. We know, that the CB position is not his favorite, but he does it so much better than his original position, maybe he lost confidence/ability to play there since he's been playing CB so many times. He's such a weak point now, when he's in the midfield. Unfortunately, German media have just reported that Bayern are trying to extend Davies contract now and talks have already started with his agent, and it is very likely that he'll stay. What do you think of Miguel Gutiérrez tho? I think he's a great player and I would be happy if he comes back! He would be a better and cheaper option imo. Also, I still have doubts if Trent will join us, I kinda have the feeling that he'll also extend his contract with Liverpool. Davies isn't coming, reports says he's more than ever close to renewing with Bayern' Munich. Madrid should look to the academy, forget about all these high profile signings. I understand the frustration of the fans, but honestly Anci is a victim of the high standard he set himself in the past few years. Anchelotti even cant substitute him, so the ego of the player wouldn’t be damaged Mbappe needs to be benched from time to time. Many speculate that he is dealing with mental issues or a lack of confidence, but none of that matters right now. He should at least be substituted. At this point, many players with a stable mindset could take his place and contribute more effectively to the team. Instead, we are stuck with someone breaking offside records, missing perfect opportunities to score, and failing to convert penalties. This imbalance has cost us cohesive team play. More talented and hardworking players are forced to pick up the slack but receive less recognition(Valverde is blamed for ONE mistake and apologized for it!!!). The level of trust in the Mbappe is just insane, he can do whatever he wants and both club and Ancelotti is covering his back and doing nothing to improve the situation. Some superstars with the super last name have inflated egos and shoots for goal instead of passing to Arda who has had better positions and chances to score. This was evident in the previous games.

Rodrygo, Vinicius, Mbappé, Diaz and Güler are 5"10 or shorter. Benzema, Bale, Cristiano-all six-footers contributed a significant headed goals. In 2016!17 season, Real Madrid led Europe in headed goals. Thanks to them and Morata, who is strong in the air, with Ramos. Without Joselu now, the aerial threat is so limited. On the defensive side, opposing teams have been imposing their aerial advantage, winning duels easily. This was evident against Liverpool. Gakpo scored with minimal resistance. It was comical that 5"7 tall Modric was the one marking a 6"3 Gakpo. The three tallest outfield players on the pitch in that game were Liverpool players. Tactics and winning games won't necessarily come because of having taller players but it should be factored-especially recruitment.
I just don't understand why Carlo is so stubborn with his tactical formation. Diamond has worked last year greatly. And Yes, Right and Left back MUST have! Any another issue. When the opponent pressure in our half, we tend to be disjointed to linkup, that's noticeable when it's 4-3-3. Just my thoughts.

TGM - I'm sorry, I have to vigorously disagree with you regarding Ancolleti. Ancolleti is between a "rock and a hard place". He knows that Mbappe is the problem, but there is nothing he can do about it. Real Madrid has mistakenly invested heavily in Mbappe to the point where they have no other choice but to play him. Don't forget, Ancolleti won LaLiga and the champions league last term without Mbappe.
If Mbappe is the issue why did we play the exact same way and have a horrible game even without him. You can't scapegoat Mbappe without also looking at how Ancelotti is giving him no support. He doesn't have the mentality and character to be a leader and he is definitely not a good player either. The truth is that he plays very badly. It’s hard for me to add more, but I always knew the strange squad composition this season would come back to haunt us eventually. Three wingers playing as forwards, talent overload in some positions while others remain completely empty, depth in midfield but a lack of depth in defense and attack. What a dilemma.
I agree with you that the 4-3-3 will work for next season with better full-backs, but for now the 4-4-2 diamond is clearly the best option. Ancelotti has gifted us three Champions League titles in five seasons and deserves a better ending. Next season will mark the beginning of a new era and that’s inevitable.

I'm with you. I agree with EVERY single point you've made. The fall from grace between this season and the last has been an absolute travesty to watch. I mean just a slow, agonizing, sick kind of torture. The management of our squad and the coaching decisions made week in and week out have been terrible. We pride ourselves on how well our club is run from top to bottom but this season has been riddled with poor decisions everywhere. Some players look tired and overworked -- completely crestfallen, while others look frustrated and bored rotting on the bench. Do I think we can pull it together and win some major trophies this year? Absolutely. We are Real Madrid. But right now, I'll be honest, I have lost almost all hope. I felt numb after the loss at San Mamès. We just never know which version of our squad will show up. When we play well it's a thing of beauty, but when we play bad we look like we'd struggle taking a point against a Segunda División team. Mbappé in the 24/25 season will go down as one of the biggest blunders in the history of world football and I am having a really hard time having any patience or sympathy for him given the years drama that led up to his signing. Back to Ancelotti, part of his issues is over-reliance on individual talents instead of a system. That isn't bad, but a team without a drilled system is more vulnerable when hit by injuries.
Playing out of pressure has been the team's nemesis - strange for a team with decent number of players with technical qualities.
Real Madrid always took a pride in outside positions, for 20 years we had two left backs, world class in fact, in Roberto Carlos and Marcelo, same as for the right back, Michel Salgado and Dani Carvajal, those positions are crucial for a modern football and we aren't there with current players. I would also 100% agree on Carlo Ancelotti, all the credit to him, but in football things are working until they don't, and there is no shame in that, its a natural course of things, it happened to Mourinho, it happened to Klopp etc...Hopefully and respectfully we can make a switch toward younger coach with modern football views in summer. Def Xabi Alonso comes to mind.
Madrid needs to play Endrick as a starting striker, he has the talent and skills of a 9 and drops deep to collect the ball, he can hold IP play and attract defenders while freeing up other attackers to strike.

We have to put things into perspective, even though Carlo is one of our most successful coaches ever we always knew that he was going to be a placement holder for Xabi Alonso, it just so happened that through all the noise he still managed to pull off a treble, (I don't care what anyone says, we got a treble last season), after that you'll be criminal to give him the axe after that. Mbappe is clearly affected by the threats by Qatar, he’s not mentally present. He is weighed down by something bigger than football. First he leaves Qatar then he wins in court to get 50 million euro. Knowing Qatar they would never accept that without a fight.

It’s never the problem of the 4-3-3 but the way Carlo executed it wrong with the wrong player selection on such a lineup. We don’t have a genuine left footed right winger to stretch the field and he mistakenly played Guler there all the time. Rodrigo and Brahim should be the ones who play there and they shouldn’t be allowed the freedom to roam to central or left but stay there that’s how a 4-3-3 work

Carlo MUST NOT BE SACKED!!! It’s not his problem. Give him time. Sacking him would be a huge mistake. Every top team goes through challenges. Things would resolve over time. We just need to be patient
Finally! People are starting to realize how ineffective Tchouameni is. Spending 80 million on him has resulted in nothing! The hype surrounding him was exaggerated. As soon as he returned to the midfield, he brought instability to the team.
It has to Valverde-Ceballos or Camavinga-Ceballos (Ceballos can be replaced later-we can find a player with the quality of Kroos, Xabi, or Zidane). At the moment, Ceballos is capable of controlling the tempo of the game and he is a press-resistant midfielder (not the best, 80/100) who can pass effectively.
We need to make some changes: Mendy, Tchouameni(or turn him into an RB or CB but he is not a starting 11-player ATM), Militao, Lucas, and Arda should be out or on loan accordingly. Rodrigo needs to go as well; we require a pacey, tall left-footed dribbler like Di Maria or Bale. Additionally, we need a center-back and a right-back.
To buy some time until a new left-back arrives, we could move Alaba to left-back, hoping he will be fit to play by January.
Ik non of these are likely to happen but this is just my thought.

Great analysis as usual. Just wanted to mention the two players at the top of my wishlist for CB.
First one is Murillo from Nottingham Forest. He has been fantastic. He would likely cost us a pretty penny (€40m?) since his contract still has several years on it, but he is 22 and a Brazilian who would fit well in the squad.
An alternative is Upamecano. His contract expires in 2026, and while it might be a challenge negotiating with Bayern, the player can probably be convinced, and BM won’t want to take the chance of losing him for free summer of 26. He is in his mid 20s, and would have Camavinga and Mbappe to help him settle in.
For left back, I know Davies is on the radar but Rayan Aït-Nouri has been impressive and I think he would be very useful.
Ultimately I think what would be best is for Xabi Alonso to be the next manager, and for him to select the missing pieces.

Perez is definitely behind Kylian starting every match. But he doesn't need to say it explicitly. It's just understood.
Tchouameni needs to play in defence. Camavinga is better suited for our system.
Kylian needs to sit on the bench for a few games, maybe work with a sports psychologist because he is overthinking.
The youngsters need playing time. Arda brings in risky passes that we need to break down defences. Bobby needs to play to get used to being roughed up and control his temper.
TAA has improved his defensive work. Fede can cover him when he goes forward.
For a CB, I think Tah could be a decent addition. Rudiger can help with his integration.

There are soo many problems. I agree we should stick with Carlo until the end of the season. The fullback situation is horrendous. Neither one of our available fullbacks is RM level. It hurt us in midfield as well. Jude and fede have to help Lucas fran/mendy. A top CB is needed, a bastoni, saliba, Gabriel or jorrel hato. Also the striker role we can't continue like this we have 3 short left wingers that dont want to be in the box. With Jude helping the leftback playing deeper, we have 0 aerial threat in the box, crossing becomes pointless. Mbappe for me was a mistake from Perez, I think he peaked too early and I think he has already played his 10 best games in his career. My fear right now is we are going to fumble the Davies trent deals, similar to Yoro because Perez will try to be cheap again.

Good therapy session. I always thought Ancelotti wanted to finish on a high, he should have retired last season. However, no one could foretell this bad season with so much talent. I agree this should be his last season regardless of the results. He is at his best when players are in their prime because he’s more of a man manager and a motivator than a tactician. This young squad needs more instruction and structure than the freedom he usually affords his players.
It’s unfortunate that he has had so many of his best players injured last season and this season, yet he still managed to perform miracles last season. This season he is failing to find rhythm. I hope he gets his full team back to have a fair shot at the season so we can judge him properly.
Apparently, the club wants to keep him in some ''man manager capacity" since he has said he will retire after this job. He has served the club well; I really hope he finishes the season with a decent record and a couple of major trophies and retires at the club as a legend, like Toni Kroos. Hopefully, we can have a smooth transition afterward to the new coach.

At this point, many players with a stable mindset could take his place and contribute more effectively to the team. Instead, we are stuck with someone breaking offside records, missing perfect opportunities to score, and failing to convert penalties.
This imbalance has cost us cohesive team play. More talented and hardworking players are forced to pick up the slack but receive less recognition(Valverde is blamed for ONE mistake and apologized for it!!!). The level of trust in the Mbappe is just insane, he can do whatever he wants and both club and Ancelotti is covering his back and doing nothing to improve the situation. Mbappe needs pressure, maybe then he will improve.

On the defensive side, opposing teams have been imposing their aerial advantage, winning duels easily. This was evident against Liverpool. Gakpo scored with minimal resistance. It was comical that 5"7 tall Modric was the one marking a 6"3 Gakpo. The three tallest outfield players on the pitch in that game were Liverpool players.
Tactics and winning games won't necessarily come because of having taller players but it should be factored-especially recruitment.
I just don't understand why Carlo is so stubborn with his tactical formation. Diamond has worked last year greatly. And Yes, Right and Left back MUST have! Any another issue. When the opponent pressure in our half, we tend to be disjointed to linkup, that's noticeable when it's 4-3-3. Just my thoughts.

He knows that Mbappe is the problem, but there is nothing he can do about it. Real Madrid has mistakenly invested heavily in Mbappe to the point where they have no other choice but to play him. Don't forget, Ancolleti won LaLiga and the champions league last term without Mbappe.

Ancelotti should have benched Mbappe and Rodrygo just for three weeks in a row and let Endrick and Arda play. But he wanted to please senior players. Now young players know that they can never play regardless of their form. Mbappe knows he plays no matter how bad he is. No competition in the team. Player forms dropped collectively. Ancelotti is a terrible coach. All RM needs is the wisdom of Robben, Ribery and Muller.

Left footed, plays the ball, deals with adversity well, good timing in the tackle, good positioning, fast, good in the air (usually - last England game had counter examples), strong, leader qualities - if a CB is to be bought, that's where my money would go. That said, Tah is on a free at the end of the season, and not a bad alt.
