Making walnut TV stand with waterfall effect
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 гру 2018
- One happy client was so pleased with the dining table I made and decided he needs a TV cabinet. I got some photos with the design he desires and started building. There was some issues along the way (mostly related with my techniques and character flaws). But TV stand turned out pretty fabulous in the end.

Sincerely THANK YOU! - Навчання та стиль
a piece of art, I liked the statement "at my shop I own failures", great woodworking skills.
Max Cavazos I am glad you’ve liked it :)
same thoughts
your anti- clamp work methods are intriguing. thumbs up for ingenuity!
Zach Johnson thanks!!
You get the award for best music in a woodworking video 😊
what is the song name @17:45?
beautifully designed and built! It was refreshing to see how you clamped your large edge joining. Most fellas have more invested in clamps than I spent on my last auto! Just goes to show...... THUMBS UP!
Art Taylor thanks! Yeah I agree on the investment into clamps. You absolutely need some at the beginning, but the majority of the clamps should accumulate during time with no major impact on your budget.
Failures or not kid you did a good job, and can't beat the look of walnut, such beautiful grain. 👌😁.
Ryan Olden thanks a lot!
Way to keep it real. Started out at your average build video. Then, all kinds of interesting twists and turns.
Nicholas Hoggan thanks 🙏
final result is great!! and seems that dropping stuff is a classic for woodworker. Yesterday I dropped a half blind dovetail drawer... I save it with an iron...
Mosca Woodworking who could have thought that its possible to iron wood:D
Great workmanship! The hue is good.
thanks!!!
Beautiful job. Solidly constructed, should last a lifetime. Well done. Shame that there are always some muppets with negative comments, some of which wouldn’t know the difference between a biscuit joiner and a doughnut. Carry on the good work young fella.
thanks man!!! I love reasonable rebukes and remarks even more than compliments. And those dumb subjective comments could hurt.. But before they do, I think for myself "the purpose of those comments is for the commenter to feel "better" rather than for creator to feel worse". If you get my point.
Very smart, a beautiful piece of furniture
thank you!!!
Beautiful classy unit with your oops moments
That came out nice...love the wood choice.
Thanks!!
Outstanding craftmanship. Love the walnut and think ill save this video for the music playlist too.
Thanks!!! Glad you liked it;))
Great job!!!
j. joan thanks 🙏
Beautiful
Nice! 👍
Great to see all the mistakes included - happens everyone now and again so fixing them is as much a part of the process as anything else. Helps us improve work practices - well that’s the theory 😆. Keep making
Thanks 🙏 mistakes are inevitable in a process of building something;))
wow very awesome!!!!
thank you!!
Excellent job! Well done with the ample tunes music ;)
WillPatagonia that’s a great soundtrack, couldn’t resist using it :D
Whaou!!! A great work, of course I liked this video ans subscribed this channel. Thank you
thank you!!!!
WOW, no clamps!!! Now I don't have to buy as many, Great and simple technique.
Thanks;))
Perfect
thanks
Cool
Nice work!
Thanks
wonderfull job
Nicolas A 🙏
18:13 that was so me working too! I like when woodworkers show this lil mistakes in their videos, it makes them "mortals" :)
That’s the purpose of those “mistake sections” to create a feeling of a simple man making stuff
Really good job. 👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Adam Ruchotzke thank you!!!🇱🇹🇱🇹
Nice build R.T.
John Ross thanks!!
the best part - I own failures - kudos
Nice work
Andrew Cartlidge thanks
You have some great projects, this tv stand and that live edge table are realy awesome. You deserve more views and subscribers, hope they will come soon. Looking forward for your new projects!
Igor L sincerely thank you!
A beautiful piece of furniture. Excellent execution. I’m going to “borrow “ a few ideas if if it’s OK
Peter thanks! Take all you need:DD
Peter thanks! Take all you need:DD
Nice Job!
Oh, thank you so much!!
cool trick clam.
I probably missed something, but I kept waiting to see what you did with the boxes you painted black.
Thanks for any insight as to what those were for🤙🏽
the black painted areas, I believe are the very back of the project. The last part of the video show then for a quick second before the video stops.
Junkboy888 you’re right. Sorry for too short finished product view 🙄
Junkboy888 thanks. I see it now.
okay, a "wonderful" bandsaw is an understatement.....
Might be:D he makes laminated wood floors. Cutting veneer what the bandsaw is designed for
جيد بالنسبة للمبتدء.
I feel you at every step of this beautiful build. There are no mistakes, just design changes. Great work! Just a side note, please take a quick photo or short video of what you are building, that way we can know what to expect and you'll surely get more clicks on your work :)
Alexandru Preda thanks for a tip
Interesting way to do a large panel glue up
John Lewis I didn’t have enough clamps at that time and it was a late night so I came up with this method. Worked great though 👍
Молодец!!!
Awesome video! Have a few questions if you have a moment... Can you describe what you were doing after the drop with the cloth and ironing and whatnot? I see the result, but would love to understand the process more. Also, what are the hinges called for the door that opens down? Thanks again
Matt Macar ok, so once I’ve dropped the piece and smushed the corner I remembered the quick trick with the wet cloth and an iron. Iron heats the moisture in cloth and wood and removes internal stresses formed from the impact. Once that’s done, I realised the wood is smacked too badly and all the fibres are loose. So I came with a CA (crazy glue) glue and a tooth stick to fill the voids with glue and strengthen the corner eventually. I hope that makes sense. Oh, and the hinges I’ve use are soft close Blum (that’s the brand) cabinetry hinges.
Amazing work!! which product did you use to varnished it?
thank you. I used Rubio monocrat without any tint.
this is a beautiful piece of furniture man. I just have one question. What is the function of those slats you put on the inside of those cabinet doors? Also great to see how you fixed the piece that you dropped, just shows how skilled you are to be able to do that!
Thanks a lot!! Those strips on the inside of the doors are just for structural support. They help the door panel to stay flat.
At 7:50 you started to take off the sides you used to help clamp a 90* angle. If you've not tried it before, I suggest placing down two strips of tape on top of each other on your work pieces, spreading some CA glue on the tape and spraying the activator on the bits you'll use as clamping points. Holds extremely well because the CA glue seeps in through the tape, but not enough to get into your material and removal is very simple, just a matter of ripping the clamping piece off and sanding away whatever's stuck on your material.
Thanks for a great tip;)))
Love the cabinet, what did you use for a finish?
Nik Cowley thanks! I’ve used Rubio monocoat without any tint
I have to admit, some of your techniques are amazing but many were hard to watch 😔. All in all, your final project came out amazing.
Ej Icon thanks a lot! In which techniques I need to improve the most? Thanks in advance;)
@@Chiselsplay No problem Resin Timber. Your hands always appear to be waaaaay too close to the blades on your tools. Specifically at 15:46. I could just be the camera angle or an optical illusion but I was fearing for your fingers many times throughout this video. Just be careful
@@ejicon3099 sincerely thank you! I agree that I should upgrade on safety in some areas. I will pay more attention to it. thanks again.
What hinge and strut hardware are you using for the doors?
Tomhoss16 hinges are made by Blum for sure but I don’t recall the brand of the other hardware.
No clamps ? Brilliant idea ...
Dmitriy S thanks! Wedges saved so so many times :)
Clever clamping idea!! 👍👍👍 amazing job also!! Looks amazing from any angle! Cheers!! 😊😊😊
heiram888 thanks a lot!!
All making 5dream, only little rasin 5 dream haha :)
I'm very new at woodworking. I plan to copy your work if you don't mind.
Please help answer a few question that I would use as guideline.
1. General dimension of the finished product
2. What type of wood did you use
3. What kind of finish.
Thank you so much. That stand is a natural beauty. My kind of thing.
David Tanujaya wood type- American black walnut. Just inside frame is made of chipboard laminated with black walnut. For the finish I’ve used Rubio monocoat with no tint. But I really can’t remember the exact dimensions. I have copied the design of some Japanese style tv stand. My client gave me some photos of the style he likes and rough dimensions of the size he desires. DM me and I may dig out those photos with measurements.
Excellent project! What kind of wood do you use for this stand TV??
...walnut TV stand...
Love your work! Do you really hate respirators that bad???
Great sense of humour!:D My relationship with them got a bit better:D.
I want to be friends with your friends.
My friends combined own 1 hammer, 4 screwdrivers and 2 tape measures
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ no no no!
Nice work👍
Made me giggle 😄 thanks 🙏
Très belle réalisation ! 🤩
Mais... trop de vis !!!
(Et je hais vraiment le système Krieg... 🤣)
Excuse Mr Resin Timber but I was wonder what kind of wood is that ?? by the way the final work looks GREAT !!!
In the lumber warehouse I was told that that’s an American black walnut. I am no expert of walnut species but it’s definitely a walnut of some kind;) thanks for watching!!!
@@Chiselsplay No, Thank you for sharing !! I enjoy watching you working and the music too!!
I only came here for the music! "But I'll be Back
красивая тумба!
Thanks!!
Very good job men, how many cost these Cabinet for sale, is very dificulty....
Thank you! There is product prices on my website. ResinTimber.com
thanks brother, wao those pieces of furniture are amazing, and how do you do them by request or just do it for a sample room like the web page. and then people buy it.
Kelvin Gonzalez it’s a combination of both. I make some by order and I make some straight from my head. The ones I would like to reproduce ends up on the website.
Would love to get into working with wood. Sadly I'm probably a bit old now
stewart middleton it’s never too late. Seriously. Go for it.
@@ejicon3099 how? It's not easy
@@cheekystew I agree. It's not easy but think about every other hobby or work related skill you current have. It's taken years to develop but you had to start somewhere at some point of your life right. Everything you need to know can be found on youtube. There are hundreds of woodworkers online who are willing to teach and share their knowledge. I would start with "Steve Ramsey - Woodworking for Mere Mortals" as well as "Fix This Build That with Brad Rodriguez" and slowly work your way into watching "Ishitani Furniture" videos. You can build furniture with just hand tools and don't need expensive table saws and planers. Harbor Freight, Home Depot, Lowes and even local home centers all have budget tools you can purchase to start your journey.
Hello!!! Wonderful job!
I just have a question for you! Do you have a reference for the cylinder you are using for the middle door? Same question for the two hinge you are also using for the same door!
Many thanks in advance!
Thank you!! I used Blum soft-close hinges for the doors, but I don't know what brand I used for the cylinder. I just went to the furniture hardware store and explained what was the weight and height of the doors and they gave me the right cylinder.
@@Chiselsplay perfect thank you! I've check also your instagram! I like your style! bye
Thanks!!!
That looks absolutely fantastic!
...I recon if you buy yourself a biscuit joiner (and use a bit less glue) you’ll save a ton of time on projects like this ;-)
Thanks for a good feedback. I’ll try wasting less glue in upcoming projects.
Bro, just get two GRR-RIP push block, it's like 25$ on Amazon instead of using your bare hands when planing.
Just saying, it's better to always be safe.
thanks for a tip!
Great job ! please the name of songs , thanks 👍
Thanks!! Oh I wish I could remember. I edited this video a loooong time ago
I built a 1700 mm long tv stand a month back as my 1st ever attempt at carpentry. With plywood. No powertools. Just a handsaw. Came out ok.
Your video with its complicated working would have discouraged me to even start.
Maybe make a simple table to show what can be achieved with minimum power tools.
That’s a thought for a future project:) thanks 🙏
nice design and looks good neoform.ca
frank prendergast thanks
I know the fall is not accident but intentionally so to show SKILL😊
Skill of clumsiness:D
Nice cabinet. The video would have been more enjoyable if you dropped the loud music and you verbalized the build process. Just my thoughts.
Thanks! That’s exactly what I’m doing with my latest content;))
What is the name of the first music please?
Ampletunes - Fire and brimstone
Resin Timber Thanks! 👍🏻
Show
Loved it but I think the video was a little bit to long. Great build 👌
Peter Peter thanks. It was one of my early attempts with video editing. I sure would shrink it if I would be editing it now.
@@Chiselsplay oh congrats💪👏 Haven't made ut that far yet so im just on Instagram
Why don’t you have a dust mask
Bailey110489 I do have one. But having it and not forgetting it to wear is a different story:D
Nice work......... Unfortunately, you're not using google and dust mask
My bad
сколько ореха испортил саморезами(((
白瞎这些工具了,都是钉子啊
大部分是多层板。不过钉子真的好多……
Looks great but where is the waterfall effect
Thanks. Well when same wood piece with continuous grain wraps the furniture from the top to the side is called waterfall effect ;)
waterfall effect? guess a waterfall is different to what I know as a waterfall
Almost 30 minutes of great build video and only 15 seconds of vague views of the final product? Please add more final walk-through shots.
Sorry, for this dumb mistake. I already adding more of a final product exposure in my latest videos. But thanks for a good point.
@@Chiselsplay I just was excited for the final product and was hoping to spend more time with it. Thanks again for sharing.
Хех.. "Была бы курочка - сварит и дурочка"
Ну да, с таким оборудованием странно что не пять штук зараз склепал
noisy music
good job, but so much wood waste. Is there better way to fix the frame after applying glue?
Hmm, which part are you talking about exactly?
@@Chiselsplay For example, 7:41. If you are interested you can watch 6:57 ua-cam.com/video/te8KmIKBFFw/v-deo.html. Well, it's just my personal opinion and I haven't done any woodwork.
И получился гроб)
Bet his colleagues don’t have and extra set of eyes laying around.
there's a morgue nearby, so you lost your bet. LOL. Just kidding, sorry for careless activities;)
Very interesting project and video. Awesome piece! You should be proud!
Can i complain a bit about the music which made turn off audio, and the fact that everything is shown at this feverish pace? Slow down amigo :). If you want to be more concise, don't show us drilling each and every pocket hole. One hole will do.
Great insights man! Really appreciate that
Daddy want, bad.
Your tools sound must be nicer than your heavy metallic sound..this kind of people don't like.. Remember ok
already improved on that:) thanks for your opinion;)
Next morning still wearing the same cloths.........
Aaron Still you must have a whole wardrobe of clothes. I tend to keep it simple. But it’s just me..
Clothes has nothing to do with the project..
This guy is not a woodwoker
That’s right!
okropieństwo wiórowe...
I see woodworking isnt a strongsuit in America 😂😂😂
Joke but you should know you live in a 3rd world country that makes North Korea look like heaven. #ProudEuropean
I clicked like and subscribed then you lost at the finished product. If I can inspect the trophy what's the point. You must spend more time allowing the viewer to inspect your finished product.
Watching them make Ferrari's is cool but if I cant admire the shiny car what's the point?
I totally agree!! This was one of my first video and I didn’t know what I’m doing. I still don’t:)) but I progressed on a thing or two due to the comments like yours. So thanks!!!
Why that glue up. Unsafe cuts on the saw. and cutting and sanding walnut with no dust mask? DO NOT DO ANY OF THIS
David Ellis I sure do need some improvements in my techniques. But I haven’t stated that this is an ultimate guide for building THE TV STAND. Thanks for noting my weak points, I promise to improve. Cheers
Very bad music. Why put this annoying music?
Sorry for your ears:D I was just starting on UA-cam and didn’t know what was I ever doing
Cool
