Some silence to judge the noise floor, maybe 10 seconds of each would make this perfect.

There's definitely a difference but what do you chalk it up to? If it's the mics, then the comparison is less relevant to users recording with external mics.

The pcm m10 is no longer available, what would be a similar good recorder with a “Line in” you can recommended

I believe the trend in recent models has been to build recorders with a single jack that has the flexibility to handle both mics and lines. That is the case with the Sony A10, for example.

Have you looked at the Sony PCM-A10 and Tascam DR-07X yet?
I wonder if Tascam have upgraded the pre-amps...

Ты использовал внутренние микрофоны или они были подключены? скажи пожалуйста. В видео звук отличный и я хочу узнать чем ты записывал. Спасибо за сравнение

Thank you a lot for these comparisons videos!
I'm considering buying a zoom H6. Generally what kind of audio interface are you using? Do you think using a zoom as an audio interface is a good idea?
    Have a nice day!

Persanally I use RME UC as an audio interface. I know several guys who use Zoom H6 as an external sound card and they don’t complain much.

Do you use both devices, did you have a preference? The PCM-M10 is no longer available to purchase it seems. I'd be interested to hear your experiences with both, pros/cons etc.

Yes, I use both of them professionaly (to record choirs and ambient sounds). M10 not only sounds better but also has much longer battery life. The two problems with M10 is omni capsules, you have to learn how to use it to get proper resaults and long sturtup time: up to 30 sec with a big card. DR-05 has noisier mic preamps and not very good headphone out, you get constant hiss with it, so I can’t recommend it to record quieter sounds, for loud concerts it is ok. If you are looking for cheap recorder try Zoom H1 or H1n. It is slightly (not much) better than Tascam in terms of sound and battery life and also it is work as an audiointerface.

@@AlexandrShursoma Very helpful info, thanks for your reply. I was also looking at the Sound Devices MixPre 3 but for different applications. The compact form of the PCM-M10 is hard to beat for a pocket sized device. Yeah I'm not too pushed on the Zoom stuff tbh... I'd rather spend a little extra for better quality result. I think I'll try to get a 2nd hand PCM-M10 if I can find a good deal.

The text that appears beside each device shows which device is playing and when.
