    At 2:51, I talk about adding a preexisting dictionary and which button you should press. In newer versions of Plover, these buttons have been renamed and so it should be a little more straightforward. "Load dictionary" will add a preexisting dictionary, while "create dictionary" will add an empty dictionary.

    Bruh. The timing. I installed plover literally 1 hour before this video was published. I was using your other videos as guides lmao.

    Hi! By any chance do you know how to connect the Uni keyboard to a Mac laptop without using Plover? Im having trouble adding the keyboard in the settings since it is not recognizing this keyboard.

  • @haj98
    @haj98 2 роки тому

    An even more basic question: What are meanings of the different drop-downs in the machine area? I have the splitography and so far have only just installed Plover and am not sure which dropdown to use to start learning steno. So far I understand that "keyboard' just makes it act like a normal QWERTY.

    • @AerickSteno
      @AerickSteno  2 роки тому +1

      That dropdown is really just dependent on what hardware you have. Each option is a different protocol that Plover will expect. For example, if you were using a regular NKRO keyboard, you'd select keyboard. If you were using a Georgi, Uni, or Ecosteno, you'd select Gemini PR since that is the steno protocol they use.
      The Splitography actually has a NKRO Plover mode and a TX Bolt mode, so depending on what mode it is currently in, you'd select either keyboard or TX Bolt in Plover. The benefit of using TX Bolt is that Plover doesn't intercept regular keyboard input, so you could steno on your Splitography while type regularly on any other keyboards plugged in.
      If you need help connecting your Splitography to Plover, there's a guide here: ua-cam.com/video/ru4cRQ2s_v0/v-deo.html

    How do you get to the dictionary stack on windows, and yes I know that you said click on It but where do and I've look for clicking it. I've tried my files, but it's just the setup, so what do I click?

    • @AerickSteno
      @AerickSteno  Рік тому

      The dictionary stack should look the same regardless of operating system. It's the list of dictionaries in the main window of Plover.
      Is there something you are specifically trying to achieve? Like adding a new dictionary or accessing your preexisting dictionaries in the file explorer? I'm not sure I follow.
      If you just want to get to the folder where the default dictionaries are stored, you can go to file -> open config folder.

    Question: can you use a QWERTY keyboard for stenograph and if do you have to change anything to get back to QWERTY?

    • @AerickSteno
      @AerickSteno  2 роки тому

      Yes! All you have to do is set the machine in Plover to "keyboard".

    Hello. Does it work for Russian language? Does training resources mentioned in your videos support training steno in russian?

    • @AerickSteno
      @AerickSteno  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, there is a plugin that allows you to write in Russian called "plover-russian-trillo" installable from the plugins manager. But I believe it uses a Treal machine which has more keys than the standard English layout. I also wouldn't know where to find learning resources for it. This page would be a good starting point:
      github.com/openstenoproject/plover/wiki/Steno-Layouts-&-Supported-Languages#trillo-%D0%A2%D1%80%D0%B8%D0%BB%D0%BB%D0%BE
      Unfortunately, the vast majority of resources (and indeed the ones I recommend) do not support non-English steno.

    How do I get I to translate steno to English?

    • @AerickSteno
      @AerickSteno  2 роки тому +1

      If you're using Plover as is, it should just be EU for the word "I". If you're only getting raw steno, then you might have your dictionaries unchecked.

    • @carrisacallahan9306
      @carrisacallahan9306 2 роки тому

      This was a typo. I meant how do I get it to translate to English, but then I realized that the paper tape was only raw steno. 😅 thank you for the reply.

    • @AerickSteno
      @AerickSteno  Рік тому

      There are several systems supported by Plover (take a look at github.com/openstenoproject/plover/wiki/Steno-Layouts-%26-Supported-Languages under Japanese) but these all have the limitation of only being able to write Kana and instead relying on an IME or a second person (in captioning situations) to select the Kanji.

      @@viniciuschinen1689 As I said, the current systems aren't able to write Kanji. You have to use an IME (input management engine) to select it. I'm unfortunately not too familiar with Japanese steno, but if you join the Plover Discord server (link in the description) there would be others who would be happy to help you with these systems.
