Ice cream parlor steam engine?

  • This small steam engine is not a model or toy but was said to have come from an ice cream shop in the northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area. Appears to be from the mid-1800s but unmarked and maker unknown. The engine's outboard crank would have operated a small pump (missing) mounted directly below it on the engine's base. Most of the exposed parts were nickel plated indicating the machine was made as much for show as for work. Steam was controlled by the governor by means of a rotary valve shown in the video.

    Very cool, maybe 1870-on it resembles my Sipps which was used in early century for sewing machines an stuff maybe this spun the drum.

    Very nice engine. I am guessing this one needed quite a bit of work to get it running. Pre-1900?

      The only work I did on it was cosmetic. It took no work at all to get it running except for a little oiling--first time was in the video. It must have been kept indoors for its entire life and my guess is that it's from around 1860s-70s.
