Barney would not be disappointed in Rickey for being a rapper all. Barney always valued every child for who they were and wanted them to go for their dreams. Barney would be his biggest fan.
It seemed like only yesterday when I knew him as Derek as a youngster! I'm glad to see that he's doing great! I can't wait to see more interviews with more Barney cast members, particularly the ones that I grew up with (Backyard Gang and from show seasons 1-6)!
God bless Ricky's mom. He's grown up to be such a fine gentleman, down to earth, humble, hard working. It was a good choice for him to live a normal life after his work on Barney. Would love to see Lucy and Tina as well!
So wonderful to see what Rickey L. Carter (Derek) has been up to. I love how he is so open and honest about what happened to him after he wrapped his acting on Barney and Friends. I'd love to see Leah Gloria and Jessica Zucha and Brian Eppes (Lucy, Tina and Michael) on the next podcast
Thank heavens Rickey is still alive and kicking despite all he’s gone through, though I can’t help but feel his bad times were magnified in this episode due to being of a different background. We can’t rule out that every Barney kid has had a dark time in their lives past, present, future, black, white, Hispanic or otherwise.
Derek was always my favorite growing up! It was nice to see another person of color be accepted into a group despite being the only one for awhile! Im glad hes doing his things and making it his own!

I would love to see some sort of episode where all the original kids on Barney come and see Barney, baby bop, and bj for the day. It would be so nostalgic for all of us who are adults now who grew up with this!

I hope they get all of the original kids on this show. Already got Derrick and Michael. So we still need Amy, Jason, Adam, Lucy, Tina, Kathy, Min, Shawn, and Tosha
Which Jason are you referring to? The black Jason from the Backyard Gang, or the white Jason (the deaf one) who joined (I believe) in Barney and Friends season 2? If the former, he walked out after only three episodes, so I doubt he'd want to do it. Also, you missed out Jeffrey, who replaced Adam in Campfire Singalong due to Adam's actor being ill. I do agree that they should get all the originals though - a mass Zoom call would be awesome! They probably haven't seen each other in decades!
@ disneycouple5796 I would be interested in hearing from Amy. Only because I heard she had to depart right before season 1 Barney and Friends due to an illness. I wanted to hear more than that and it would’ve been nice to have her on Barney and Friends with Derek, Micheal, Tina, and Lucy.
I’ve been really enjoying this podcast. I have had Cerebral Palsy my entire life and spent many an hour watching Barney as a young kid. My mother revealed to me recently that she was actually considering taking me to audition for Barney & Friends at one point. Her reasoning was that she felt the show needed representation of a physically disabled child. For logistical reasons, she ended up changing her mind. I’ve thought about how different my childhood would‘ve been had that actually happened. Each episode has given me a glimpse of what I might have experienced.
I'm sorry that didn't happen. I wrote an episode which featured a delightful young actress who had no left hand, and it was great to discuss it openly with the audience and then show her taking part in the day's activities.
It’s good to see Rickey “Derek”! Kathy, Michael, Jason, Carlos, and Derek are my favorite characters. Derek makes laughing and giggling whatever he makes funny
This episode was awesome, Ricky "derek" was a bright spot on the show when i was growing up watching it, glad to see he is in a great space mentally. Keep 'em coming! the Backyard Gang originals paved the way

It's funny that I didn't know that Tosha (Hope Cervantes) was Afro-Latina. As I got older, I noticed that Cervantes is a Spanish name. That's crazy how Hope Cervantes was cast as a black girl. They should've did a very special episode where Tosha finds out that she's half Latina. And she learns more about Hispanic culture from Luci and Tina. 😊❤
That makes Tosha just like me. Mixed with Black and Latina. Tosha did sing the “1 and 2 and 3 good friends” song in Spanish really well in one episode.
I will say i learned a lot more about Hispanic traditions from Luci played by Leah Gloria and Tina played by Jessica Zucha on Barney and from Luis and Maria on Sesame Street. If it wasn't for Leah or Jessica, i'd never know that "I Love You" in Spanish is "Te Amo" and that "Happy Birthday" is "Las Mañanitas" and also from Min, played by Pia Hamilton, that "Happy Birthday" in Tagalog is "Maligayang Bati" i learned a lot from Barney that i never learned in school.
@@amylee8969 If it wasn't for Luci, i wouldn't know that a "kookaburra sits in the old gum tree..." or "And the smile was on the crocodile..." Those songs taught me a lot more than i learned in music class in school.
