- Slick Turkish carpet shops entertain tour groups expertly. While the carpets are beautiful, I find the sales pitch most entertaining. Of course, normal guides and bus drivers make handsome commissions when they bring their groups carpet-shopping, and prices are very soft. But we are very careful not to let the allure of commissions hijack our program. While we include one carpet presentation for the group, we make sure no one is held captive in any carpet shop. (For instance, as soon as this sales pitch is over, we provide a shuttle bus ride back to our hotel for those who don't want to shop.)

Thanks for posting Rick! Where is this carpet shop? It looks like the one we visited in the Cappadocia region and I think I recognize the guy! I love the whole spiel.... (and yes I did buy a carpet!)

When you take a guided tour they will take you to numerous tourists traps to try to sell you something - the guides get a huge commission. I've been on tours where 90% is a sales job! BECAREFUL of Turkish carpets they will say it's silk then slip in a fine cotton carpet!

The turkish carpet-stores are cleverly trying to skilfully sell carpets to tourists of inferior quality for little money. You can also get in turkey carpets of a high quality but not for a low price. The carpet-deaeler knows, if tourists spend only a few hundred dollars for their holyday-trip they do not invest a few thousands of dollars for a good carpet. My advice! Do not buy cheep carpets, you make a bad business. It needs a lot of experience to buy a good carpet.
