Suzuki Jimny Modification - Suspension upgrade / Lift Kit

- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- Just a little insight into what an actual “lift kit” includes and how the lifting process takes place in a solid axle vehicle.
The lift kit is going to be the most essential component for the conversion of the soft and timid jimny into the full blown off-road/overland vehicle with a worldwide cult following and unleashing its true potential.
A lift kit not only raises the ride height and helps accommodate bigger tires, but also helps to change the entire drive characteristics as well. A well setup suspension will make a vehicle stable at high speeds, under braking and also on uneven surfaces.
Just like all other vehicles in our group, we will be going with Ironman 4x4 Australia’s 50mm lift kit for all the Jimnys that have been booked.
It is completely a personal choice for the quality of hardware and warranty backup and support provided by Ironman 4x4 India.
I am sure there will be loads of other options available in the market very soon.

Jimny is the refined and modern form of our beloved Gypsy. It has all the strength of Gypsy but also luxury of modern SUVs. People are just not able to understand that a internationally sought after vehicle has been served to the Indian masses. It’s best to get one and enjoy 4wding in the best possible form. This car is going to be super hit, provided it is priced correctly.
It is a very informative video for both a) who already know how suspension kits work and b) who like me are still learning. Also, the effort you have put in, in order to explain things in detail, with a vehicle that is still parked at the showroom, highlights not only your passion but also the good intention of guiding people as best as you can. Kudos to you and your team! Great effort. 😊
Thank you, means a lot 😁
That’s lot of knowledge squeezed in a 6 min video. Keep up the good work.
You're more knowledgeable than all top car youtubers
22g You are keeping people like myself hooked to their bookings until Suzuki starts delivering, they need to honor your free and valuable content which is missing from most videos !
Hi JSC,
After reading your answer to my question about diff breather extension and snorkel that I had asked in your other video on tyre sizes, I called the Ironman4x4 dealer Zac & Thomas in Bangalore and visited their store today as he mentioned that his own Alpha MT has already been fitted with an Ironman snorkel and that I could observe his staff working on it further.
The 50 mm Ironman lift kit that you have displayed in this video, was already fitted on his Jimny along with Maxxis Bravo AT 235/75/R15 AT tyres on bronze coloured alloys (Evo*** something).
Ironman bull bar with winch and two tow-hooks under it were also already fitted. Original front grill with Suzuki lettering was also done.
I told Thomas about the drastic increase in weight of the much heavier tyres, but then, he had already planned to fix the turbocharger kit and remap after 6 months to maintain the engine warranty.
Ironman diff breathers kit (2 connections) is priced at Rs. 12K, but apparently the stocks will arrive only in late July. I will visit him soon after I receive the delivery of my Alpha MT. Many thanks for letting me know that an Ironman dealer exists in Bangalore.

Srinath Murthy
Wow...this was very informative. In fact, all your previous video have been full of information and technical details.
Good to see automobile technical minds on UA-cam.
The underpinnings remind me of the gypsy, apart from the coil springs in place of leaf springs. The hardware on Jimmy is truly mouthwatering.
Once again awesome video
Very informative brother.. always get to learn more..
The finishing "Thats all folks" bought back so many memories..😂 nice touch
That's educative. Awesome video
The amount of knowledge here is unimaginable for a common guy like me. Thanks.
Jaideep knows what he wants
What a treasure trove of information!
I’m getting addicted to your videos. Great information and automotive content being spread for all. Keep up the good work. Hats off. Cheers paaji
Wow ! That is such great info ! Explained so patiently and in a manner that a non technical person can understand it ! Extremely helpful !
Great in-depth analysis of the suspension mods. Good one
Ive been searching for lift kit for 5 door jimny but found nothing on net. Finally found this. Thank you. Such a detailed explanation of lift kit amd the components involved. Eagerly waiting for deliveries to start and mods to begin. Godspeed.
Great explanation. Waiting for an installation video now.
Excellent and meaningful review of the Jimny, will look forward to the full ready lifted vehicle
Amazing automotive knowledge you have ... truly inspired by you
There are a number of option available for modification in Jimny. Very good effort from your side. Just waiting for the Jimny to be delivered.
Hi bhaiya, big fan from ‘Kurali’
Looking forward for deliveries of Jimny to start and the mods that will follow. Waiting for more informative videos.
Regards
Ok...This is a good video.. Subbed!
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing the knowledge. Keep up the good work. Waiting for more..
Sir, I enjoyed the content thoroughly and I appreciate the details crammed in the short video. I’m planning to buy Jimny as my 1st car It would be amazing if you could share the cost of upgrades at least a ballpark amount. So that people like me can plan ahead financially and If possible the way we can source similar equipment.
Thank you
The lift kit will be close 1.5-1.6ish
Tires can be anywhere between 8k/ tire to 30k a tire depending on the manufacturer and size
Also wheels can be anywhere between 40k/set to 2 lkh/set
To the point and detailed video. Awesome
Excellent video. So informative. Leant how a lift kit actually is installed and all the components involved. Thank you 👍🏻
Hi Jaydeep. Excellent video. Very informative . Please guide if its safe to use 235/75/15 on the stock wheels without using any lift kit? Thanks in advance.
Yes, 235/75/15 will fit with everything stock intact - wheels, suspension and bumper
❤great detail info bhayya 👌👍🙏
❤❤ Brilliant.....
Great analysis
Amazing coverage for the lift kit. Keep up the good work.
Awesome
Incredible information
its so beauty sir ji
Hi great video
Just wanted to know what’s the max size upgrade that we can adopt for without a lift
That would be 235/75/15
Awesome
Great review. Beautiful video made with the future mods in mind.
Respect and love from Lahoul sir, very informative video. Just wanted to ask one thing don’t you think increasing the height of the jimny by that much would lead to more body roll and hard on cutting sharp turns And instead of using 17” rim and tyres, can we go for 16” rim and tyre
Thank you, so the idea is to increase the track width by 2x of the lift kit height increment. Hence the wider wheels and tires
That proportion keeps the body roll in check, rather the vehicle is going to become more stable . Also I wasn’t recommending 17” wheels only, the reason I had to take up that size was lack of availability of tires. If 31x10.5/r15 will be available, I will always pick that over a bigger wheel size 😁
So it is better not to increase the rim size.. right?? Even if Doing off roads…
And this suggested tire size 31/10.5/15. How it is different from 215/75/15… sorry might be silly but need to learn this… further can lift kits works well with the 31/10.5/15 as it will lift around 45 mm from stock
Cheers❤
Thank you. Very informative.
Very informative and concise video. May I request you to express your opinion on the Manual vs Automatic transmission from the combined perspective of City,Highway and Offroad driving.
Yes definitely, but best evaluation can only be made once we have the actual vehicle to drive
@@TreadTrails Thank you for taking efforts to reply to us.I understand a hands on shoot out between the two transmission variants is needed.I have a classic dilemna - stick to the (not so bare boned) manual base model ( peppier for highway drives) and fine tune the suspension, tyres and wheels later on or do the same but with the Auto transmission (rated better for true offroading and similar overdrive gearing as the manual, in the case of SWB three door) or opt for either of the Alpha variants for the added bells n whistles and only change tyres with a lift kit later. All four are tempting variants so will look forward to your point of view in the days to come and hope you get to be an Alpha Tester unlike the predictable auto journos who will parrot out the manufacturer's sales pitch as if on cue.
Learnt something new today!! Thank you! Didn’t know of the rear Shaft spacer.
Considering that this is a longer wheelbase Jimny and the drive shaft is also longer do you think the 3 door Jimny lift kit would work seamlessly ?
Yes Ofcourse, longer the wheelbase, more relaxed are the shaft angles. The Jimny might even work 10/10 without the shaft spacer and just do with a slight crossmember relocation only 😁
Shorter wheelbases like the 2 door Jimny will have a sharper shaft angle.
your thinking is so great sir ji
Amazing! Waiting for jimny to hit tge roads
Sir you provide excellent knowledge, i suggest you to start recording in Hindi so that it reaches more people .
Excellent stuff. Helps a lot of people who have questions about reliability post lift kits. Question: how much shall I set aside for the lift kit!
Waiting for the official pricing to be announced by Ironman4x4 india
But should be close to 1.5+ for sure
@@TreadTrails Not a bad pricing at all.
Awesome technical content. From your words, its very evident that you are very much excited to get your Jimny and mod it the way you want it :)
Can you please make a video on the upgrades done your Thar?
With bigger wheels in Thar, did you upgrade steering damper?
Sorry ,I let go of my thar after 4 months of ownership.
Also the Thar had an independent front suspension setup, so no steering damper can be installed in that
@@TreadTrails Thank you for the reply!
If such modifications is required than why maruti is not making such modifications or the present vehicle is defective??
Great 👍
Sir, do you see this becoming a daily driver, because, I hear that Thar isn't a great Daily driver (still miles ahead of its old version), do you see the steering setup giving the city driving exp an additional effort?
Plz Bumber and toprage modification also
Yes will share that soon
by 1.5 Hp engine its tough to get good torq on hills like thar after Mod is added and lack of oem spare's available in market and Re mapping its ECM would be full of bugs
Hello buddy can get a lift of 2 inches with lift kit & 215/75/15 tyres
Yes of course
Price
I hope you will revert…
Did you test or compare Tanabe suspension, Dobinson suspension with Ironman
Sorry I don’t have access to any vehicles with those setups here
What is the costing for lift kit and tyres
Amazing info. Can you please share links to buy this kit

@@TreadTrails and any idea on pricing of this kit and BFG tyres 17 inch
What will be the total cost of the lift kit including fitting?
Waiting for the official price figures from Ironman4x4 India, but will be around 1.5-1.6lkh I feel
@@TreadTrails yikes, thats more than i expected. But I have to get my hands on it anyway. Thanks for this, and all the insightful videos 👍🏽
Where and how can we place the order for lift kit for jimny. Pls advise
From zac @ironman4x4india Instagram
How much does the lift kit for jimny costs?
Almost 1.55ish
The exact prices will be out once the bulk lot comes in I guess
How much Will the lift cost ?
Close to 1.5-1.6ish
Hi Sir,
Will such upgrades void the warranty?
Man.. from which school u r ?.. i need to join. More educative.. love from karnataka.
I guess he is from Manipal! Might be wrong
@@nvnkumar mangalore manipal??
I studied at MIT Manipal 😁
@@TreadTrails I was on right Chahal sahab!
when we install the lift kit does that voids warranty?
Hi what are your views on the old man emu suspension? Can you make a video on this also please?
That’s an amazing brand as well, Only issue is that we do not have the presence of the ARB in india as a company. So getting desired specs and warranty claims are a pain.
ARB, Dobinsons, Kings, ToughDog and Ironman4x4- I would say all of these are equally good. Just depends on what is available locally with technical backup and warranty assurance
@@TreadTrails Oh that's sad to hear about ARB I was thinking about the ARB air Lockers for front axle for jimny
On the stock suspension, is it safe to install 215/75/R15?
From a UA-cam video I learnt that it is 4kg heavier than the stock tire.
So total 16kg shall add up.
Ofcourse it is safe, the additional 4kgs won’t really matter
It will cause zero difference to the drivetrain, rather thicker sidewall will keep the suspension better protected too
@@TreadTrails Thanks Jaydeep ji.
Sir what about stability. Kya lift kit se rollover increase hoga?
An improper spec lift will always increase rollover possibility, that’s why you need
1. Proper to the spec lift kit setup
2. Imo wider/offset wheels and tires to compensate by increasing track width
What is the price of complete kit
129500 + installation
What would be the approximate cost of Iron Man kit?
Waiting for the official price announcement from Ironman4x4 india.
But definitely 1.5-1.6 I feel
After mofification from stock tyres to 215/75 r15 tyres, does it require to change suspension setup (lift kit)as well. pls guide me in this regard. Thanx.
No suspension changes needed till 235/75/15
215 will fit beautifully with zero additional work required
@@TreadTrails please make a video on maximum tyre width that can be installed on stock rims
What would be the estimated cost of 50mm lift kit? Tyre size fit in ??
Still waiting for the official price announcement from Ironman4x4
But definitely above 1.5-1.6 I feel
Sir.. does the lift kit as mentioned by you also change the driving characteristic of the jimny? Will it make the vehicle leas stable or roll more?
Will be way more stable both on and off the road too, body roll definitely decreases alot
How much this modification will cost including BFG tired.
Depends on the type and size of wheels and tires , since tires will vary from 7.5k to 30k/ tire and wheels can be anything from 35k to 2 lakh for a set of 5 😬
Somebody told me hill hold control doesn't work with 4 wheel low ratio gear Is it true? And is it a good idea to use hill hold control with 4wd while descending at paved road with few inches of snow?
I guess that can only be confirmed after the test drive vehicles are available at the dealerships.
One of the many questions that can only be answered after the vehicle is launched and on the road and tested in real life scenarios
Are these mods legal in India ?
nope, none of mods make these cars road legal in India.
I wish
You mean to say itS not? I mean as a lawyer myself if I wanted this setup and it’s illegal then it’s such a bummer!
@@ashishanshuman3074 it is illegal to do any modifications to cars in India. Engine, Chassis, or even the external bull bars. Though many of them flout these rules, it is still illegal
Not a big fan of spacers...any alternatives??
Not the wheel spacers, these are the shaft spacers but 99% the won’t be needed in the Jimny due to longer shaft length
Prices for Ironman lift
Should be between 1.5-1.6 ish
Where does one go to get the lift done in Delhi ?
Depends on what brand you want to go for
@@TreadTrails tough dog 40mm
@@TreadTrails i am waiting for the part where you also cover how to mitigate the sluggishness that comes with those beefy BFs
If not then 50mm Ironman lift
Sir all these equipments will cost how much with labour cost added
1 lakh+
Still waiting for the official pricing from Ironman4x4 india
@@TreadTrails Thanks pls do share it upon confirmation
In 2H is Jimny a FRONT WHEEL DRIVE OR A REAR WHEEL DRIVE?
Rear wheel drive
Same as Gypsy
For some strange reason Maruti sales guys have been saying front wheel drive thanks for the clarification 👍
@@SwapneshGolwalkar they might have read the brochure upside down 😂
Hahahahaha
If you're getting it installed by 6th mile Thomas. Better go for ARB. They lack proper knowledge about it and will experiment on cars.
Point noted, I always fit my own parts mostly, and I am based in Amritsar, punjab
Hi Mr Giridhar, (prozac1127)
Your welcome to go for any brand you please!
Spreading wrong information and trying to slander a person because you have an ego clash with him is not the right way. I'm watching all that you have to say but telling lies about them experimenting on cars is misinformation and very low-end of someone who claims to know it all.
I respect your requirements but making false comments to gain attention is definitely a big put off!
Once again I'm requesting/telling you to go by, meet the person you have a problem with and sort it out, one on one. Telling lies on a public forum will definitely get you red flagged! 6:35
I think ironman’s lift kits are quite expensive
That they are, but the cost comes out to be the same if you factor in duties and shipping cost
@@TreadTrails that’s why by the time Jimny comes, Dr Nano would come up with affordable 2 inch lift kits . As they committed to me
