The US Senate actually has a designated Candy Desk (with its own Wikipedia article, even)! It's been a tradition since 1968, and whoever occupies the desk traditionally keeps it stocked with candy from their home state. It's currently occupied by Pennsylvania senator Pat Toomey.

I LOVE WEIRD FACTS LIKE THIS!!!! I never knew about it! I just had to send the wiki link to my sister because it just tickled me so much. And I LOVE that they keep a lot of Hershey chocolate in it - Every since I went to Hershey Park as a kid, I’ve been hooked. It was like a candy-themed Disneyland 🥰

@@DynastyGuy I'm not sure if he would have the same desk though. Otherwise the candy desk would always be Pennsylvania. The desks are reassigned at the start of every congress.
Edit: according to wikipedia, the candy desk is by a door on the republican side, so it won't be Jon Fetterman.
The aides he's talking about are young kids willing to work for the chance to learn the inner workings of Congress. It's highly competitive and Congresspeople choose only the most intelligent people who research the many topics that Congress comes into contact with in session. They deserve all that Jon Stewart said.
That said, a fair share of them is extremely career driven and would sell their grandmother for making it in congress or landing a nice lobbying position down the road. Not many idealists fall out of the ivy league schools and i would not trust any staffer who works for some of the most stupid or horrible congress people (I mean, who want's to work for someone like Ted Cruz or Kamala Harris back in the day... or some of those high quality candidates like Herschel Walker). Also, i don't trust people, who are conservative in their 20s - no matter where you stand politically at 40, 50 or 60, if you are not liberal in your 20s, you have no heart.
A lot of them are not the brightest, but are just friends with rich people 🤷🏻♂️

Having been one of those legislative aides I can't emphasise how right he is. In any given meeting every person present has been briefed by the person 'below', to the point where the junior taking the minutes is sometimes the most knowledgeable person in the room. So glad I'm out of it now.

As someone who plays Drums watching Jon Stewart of all people one of my absolute heroes play Drums (competently) makes me unfathomably happy

I can't be the only one still pissed off at Jon Stewart for dipping out when Trump got elected. I feel like he knew satire was dead at that moment and left the rest of us to die in a burning building. That's when Trevor Noah got his shot. Noah seems like an institution but he has literally only had the show since 2016-2017
When I want to feel hopeful, I look for Jon Stewart. When I find him with Stephen Colbert, I truly believe things will be ok. (For the moment)

I know nobody is going to read this or care but I just need to get it out - holy smokes but this man is so articulate, thoughtful, erudite, generous of spirit and, heck, he just plain makes sense. On top of that he delivers/cushions it with a heaping helping of funny! I just wish that everyone from any political perspective would listen to him and take some cues. J.S. is a gift to us all - and he would so hate hearing that. One of the great, great, great minds of our time.

@1:02 Facts! Re aides. More often than not, the aides would have to brief or give the gist or a summary of what's on the bill these politicians are tasked to vote and sign on. It's like their aides did their homework for them (i.e. read the book, did the research) and all they have to do is tell the teacher what they think of it (based on what their aides told them).
As long as celebrities continue jumping into the political arenas, Jon Stewart should run for president.

Voting for Walker doesn't necessarily reflect a lack of intelligence, but it *does* reflect absolute cravenness. Our politics is broken, and in a two party system many realize they have to keep it broken to maintain power.

That's only for 'losers'. "Winning' requires any means possible, and their path to power now means a corruption of every norm and good faith practice we've taken for granted for centuries. He largely introduced this and the rest of them were amazed they could get away with it- which made them giddy with the possibilities. I think this only would have been possible in a 2 party system, where when you have only one 'enemy', winning becomes a zero sum game. And they are very 'smart' at this. They *know* Walker is an imbecile, but they needed a useful idiot (who for a time was kind of a football legend) to take just a fraction of the black vote away from Warnock in a state with a large black population. They know their own constituency- almost exclusively white- would vote for a ham sandwich before they'd vote for a Democrat. So, to your point, they're so much more awful than they are dumb.
It's just gotten so sad here. It breaks my heart.
