72v eBay Variable Amp Charger VS Cycle Satiator

- In Episode 5 of French Toast MotoClub we take a look at a variable 72v charger from eBay and why I chose it over the famed cycle satiator charger.
Summary: While the cycle satiator is more advanced/waterproof and more compact, it is significantly slower, less powerful, and far more expensive. The onyx charger is a great value for a 5 amp charger so I couldnt justify going to the cycle satiator for the same speed. That said you can expect a 10 amp charger from Onyx very soon, so if you don't want the variable capabilities and the pricing is right, I am sure Onyx did their research for a quality charger as well!

Great vid mate, keep em coming!
Thank you!!
Wow thanks alot I really need to see that I'm going to get one pretty soon
All Lithium Ion charger profiles use CC/CV methodology. At the beginning of the charge, it uses variable voltage, but constant current, and then at 90% voltage, it switches to variable current, constant voltage output. It's not that the 12amp charger knows what voltage the pack is at and adjusts the output accordingly, its that it tells you at what rate it's discharging, unlike most other basic chargers on the market, like the stock ONYX charger.
Thanks for the clarification Turner! Always appreciate your knowledge drops :)
are you saying its not good to use for other voltage ebikes?
Very informative! Thanks!
Thanks for the video bro ! Was really debating which one to get and this one looked sketchy but i really need the fast charging option and 5 amps isn’t enough lmfaooo thanks for helping me decide AND save money
No problem my friend, this one has been super reliable and is a great deal. The fact that you could buy ebikes in the future and use this same charger is a total win.
FrenchToastMotoClub hey what connector does it come with to charge the battery ?
If you order from Litespeed or the Litespeed eBay account it will come with a higher amp xlr. You will want to specify in the order comments or by emailing the vendor
FrenchToastMotoClub ooooff thing is i already ordered it 😂 i was just going to chop off what ever connected i got and put on a xt90s one on it
Cycle Satiator can NOT ballance cells or cell strings (unless you connect it to a single cell/string at a time).
Oh by the way can you do another video on how to use the charger from the beginning
Yes. All the lights and switches have Chinese characters. I'd like to know when the battery is at 90%, does a light show that?
I found your link to be dead, it happens. Would this be the same charger unit (looks like it)...search " 72V Ebike Battery Charger 3A-12A Adjustable For Lithium ion Li-ion Quick Charge " in eBay, they're $125, free ship, US seller, you choose your connector for your unit. Great video, by the way!!!
It is that charger but I no longer recommend it! I would look at the chi battery variable voltage 72v charger
Great video 👍🏻
Looks like a nice charger but not really in even the same ballpark as CS, CS can not only vary the amperage but also the voltage across a huge range as well as charge many different battery chemistries and to varying levels to cell max. If you don't need all that capability then the one you are using is great, I wish more manufacturers provided this type of charger instead of the little garbage 2amp power brick.
I agree you can even notice the quality difference handling the two. Grin makes some phenomenal well engineered stuff. That said for the overage onyx rider the charger I have will be of good value and provide a faster charge time.
Hey. To I’m commenting again because i finally got my charger but I’m kinda stumped on what connector to sue on the battery side to connect to the charger, what and how do you connect your charger to your ebike even tho yours si prebuilt
So if you’re charger came with the round end with 3 holes (XLR) you will want to search for an XLR female end to attach to your battery. Does your battery have a connector on it at the moment?
@@FrenchToastMotoClub sadly thatS not what i received :(, what i got was a three whole connector but it’s not the XLR it doesn’t have any marking other than it saying “10A 250V” and that’s it
@@FatalJouy yeah I’d cut it off and solder an xlr or while you are at it upgrade to an sb50 type connector
How long does it take to charge with 10a
Based my exp with other riders, it depends but on average from dead dead to full at 10amps, 2hrs
mine burnt today :(
Really ?! How and what happened ?
@@rolandroland1485 yea, i order anotherone and is ok about one year - 50 charging. Only coils are loud much more than before, but is ok. And burnt, i dno, It works around 10 charges, no problem, then i plug cable into wall once, and it blow fuse in my house :D I only plug it, chargers switch was OFF position.
@@TnTckoo wow that’s pretty odd, I thought you say you made a mistake. Maybe you got a faulty one ?
@@rolandroland1485 how you can make mistake ? :D nono it was just faulty one
Mine too! I’ll be taking the video down soon since I don’t recommend it. I’ve been using the variable voltage chi battery charger and it’s been excellent
The link goes to a domino grip
Thanks for letting me know Jason, fixed that now :)
FrenchToastMotoClub thanks man
