Awesome explanation! Honestly, I've been through a ton of "basics" videos, and this is the first one that didn't assume that I knew all this stuff already. They just kind of speed through it, so thanks for the breakdown!
to anyone having trouble: there's a two-frame (1/30th of a second) window between the c-stick input and the jump input. if you're on a gamecube controller, the reason why you're not getting it consistently is because neither the c-stick nor the shoulder buttons (which can be assigned to jump) have to be fully pushed for the game to read the input, so pressing either the c-stick or the shoulder button at different speeds can lead to inconsistency in this technique.
Out of the 10-15 videos I've watched on this technique specifically, this one finally helped me to understand what's happening when it comes out wrong so that I can know what to avoid doing. The window between the c stick and the jump button is tight but at least now I know that's what to shoot for.
I haven’t tried this with other characters but joker can do a fast bair by dashing forward then back then jump c stick forward and I also think Void does this with his joker too.
I can do it it’s just that sometimes my c-stick reverse input makes me do it normal tilt instead of a tilt the other way, not turning me around, what do I do?
Great vid yanno! I keep getting a reverse fair instead of the forward facing bair...in slow mo this doesn’t happen, only in full speed...do you know what I’m doing wrong? Any tips? Thanks, keep up the great work!
I've been trying this for hours in frame by frame. Ultimate won't let me turn around with c-stick back. I have tilts enabled. All videos I've seen use GameCube controllers and I don't. That's the only thing I can think of at this point.
Is there really no way to do this without giving up c-stick smash attacks? I've been playing Ultimate every day for 2 years idk if I can change my brain like that lol. But I play Joker so its something I might have to do I guess.
Musu Liu Oh sick. Yeh I was able to do it, but I realize on elite smash I need my c stick controls. Up smash out of shield, down smash after drag down up air, and more are all easier to do with the cstick and I can’t give them up.
Musu Liu Yeh very true. I was experimenting to see if it could up my game, since I’m at the top of elite where everyone above me are pro players and I keep having a hard time. Perhaps I’ll revisit it later, but I feel like it would be too much of a shift for me, and like you said I’ll just play my own way for now.
Yo Set the speed to 2/3 because its the closest to normal speed, and in my opinion, the best way to practice if you feel like you *need* to slow it down. Essentially you just want to make sure the inputs are tight. Specifically the timing between inputting the C-Stick Back, and jumping. If I am correct (please correct if wrong) you only have like a 1 frame gap to input these two buttons. So really, I just split it into 2 parts, pressing, and holding forward, and then doing CStick Back, and jumping. When I lab, and I'm sure other people do this.. sometimes I can do the tech consistently, and then I like look away from my tv for a millisecond, or say "oh shit, I can do it", and then all of the sudden I just can't do it anymore xD. When this happens, I like to break it down without even looking at my tv. So literally I look at the remote and go step by step. In this case, (not even worrying about speed or anything) I'd just press Forward, then CStick Back, and Jump, over and over for like 15 seconds, and then finally look back at my TV and try it full speed. LOL. But seriously this helps with the muscle memory, and if you do it enough it will honestly start to feel so natural. For me it took like _maybe_ 25 total minutes to get fully used to it. Another thing I found personally helpful was to just switch to a different character and try it out with them. Honestly sometimes it just feels easier with some characters, and I've found that when I can nail it with one character, I can pick it up with someone else way easier. Sorry this is an essay, but sometimes you just need em nah mean? XD Hope this helped.
lolandelo Pretty sure this is what happens: You input your c-stick, but jump after the initial dash. However you inputted the c-stick early enough that it buffers a tilt attack after your initial dash. Then you attack cancel your turnaround tilt with a jump and end up doing a fair
Dude i think you should see a speech therapist if you can. I used to have that same problem (saying “j” and “ch” with the wrong part of my mouth) when I was younger, but fortunately there was a speech therapist at my school who was able to help me sort it out pretty quickly.
Haha I actually went to speech therapy for a few years when I was younger and I was never able to fix it, so I've just been living with it. Of course now it kinda sucks since I'm making videos but I hope that doesn't take away from them!
Why would you want to patch one of the few universal tech ultimate actually has ”destroy competitive-normal-players” it’s not even game breaking wtf. you want regular reverse aerials removed too?
Maplestory music. 10/10 video
Insta like for maplestory throwback
foreeeeel
A+ Maplestory music, way to trigger my memories

Loving the channel so far! Keep the tech and counter play guides coming!
Maplestory music equals god tier video. Instant classic
One thing that helped me practice is putting the jump in way later than the c-stick and then jumping earlier and earlier to get more used to it
Wow just found your channel and I love how you go in depth and provide clear insight without going overboard. Seriously awesome stuff.
I've looked at alot of vids and this by far is the most instructional and informative. Thank you
For those doing reverse f-air I figured it out. Use the c stick behind you FIRST then jump and continue to move forwards. Hope it helps
I keep getting either fair, unreversed bair, or nair, and i've been at it for an hour straight, I give up, this shit is im fucking possible.
Felt bro
Thanks, this has been the most helpful video so far.
i get sometimes a instant reverse forward air with falcon if i try the first method you showed here.
Why do I randomly keep getting an Attack Cancel Forward Air?? Pls help!!!
you are probably not holding the left stick back. If you don't hold it it'll be a fair
How do people full hop with this though? For instance, with chrom or roy's jab to back air confirm when the opponent is higher up?
I could be wrong but I believe that is just a quick RAR not 100% on that though
Such a nice explanation tysm
I haven’t tried this with other characters but joker can do a fast bair by dashing forward then back then jump c stick forward and I also think Void does this with his joker too.
Yeah this is cool and all, but do people have their shoulder button set to jump casually?!
Great Video 👍🏿 Loved it

Nice! Good stuff

I use pro and it's fine, dont do frame by frame because its inconsistent, just practice in slower speeds

Nice
i wish i didnt have to have tilt stick on cuz i personally prefer smash stick when playing
Hey super late I actually have a random question but when I try this I always get a *reverse* fair instead of a reverse bair
Yo

Could you do a video on wave bouncing?
Definitely, thanks for the suggestion :)
I often get reverse F-air, do you have any idea how that happens?
You stopped holding forward on the control stick
Reverse fair means you inputted the c-stick and the jump at the same time.
lolandelo Pretty sure this is what happens: You input your c-stick, but jump after the initial dash. However you inputted the c-stick early enough that it buffers a tilt attack after your initial dash. Then you attack cancel your turnaround tilt with a jump and end up doing a fair

why am i getting nair...
sometimes reverse nair?...
you are most like not pressing jump quick enough. If you move forward and do cstick forward at around the same time you get a nair
Me 90% doing fair
I hate this it’s so hard why can’t it be simpler to do?
Why am I getting nairs lol
Hope this shit have been patched.
It's destroy competitive-normal-players.
