It's a combination of both. From the Angstrom Levy fight we see that he also holds back a significant portion of his actual strength at all times to not kill people. Essentially, he holds back against weak opponents, and then when he faces a strong opponent, his first instinct is to overthink everything because thats both who he is and it speaks to his inexperience with fighting opponents worthy of a Viltrumite-Human hybrid like himself
I love Nolan. He is really strong and seeing him fight to protect his son and a planet was really heartwarming. Hes definitely one of the strongest viltrumites out there.
In fact, he actually is one of the strongest, he is above-average, but Mark is on a whole another level, he's just too fricking strong, he's barely an adult and he can take on Viltrumites that are millenia old
Love how in 0:48 they did their own rendition of the 2 page spread from Ryan Ottley in the comics where it just shows an all out slugfest of the viltrumites against Mark and Nolan. One of my favourite spreads in the comic.
Is nobody gonna talk about? How genuinely happy the viltrumite lady was When mark started given her them hands? Like I felt like any moments she was gonna say. "So this boy is a viltrumite after all."
Tbf the whole point is its a battle indoctrination, both Lucan and Thulla were holding back so that Mark could start properly fighting, thats why Thulla's hair knife just cuts non-vital spots on him until the end, its to bait him into fighting for real.
@@BitrateBillybullshit. They woulda killed that boy on the spot if not for omni-man. Viltrumites clearly dont give af about indoctrinating people since they murdered half the planet
“She” will show up again soon and then it will happen… (Also to clarify I’m not talking about the old person I’m talking about Anissa for anyone wondering)
This scene was so badass. It's nice to see Mark slowly come into his own instead of figuring things out all at once. If he didn't struggle, the story wouldn't be any fun to watch.
See that what bothered me - Viltrumites seem to be the result of evolution. In order for evolutionary selection to occur they must have cared for their offspring like humans do. So it was always in the cards for Nolan's empathy towards his own son to overcome Viltrumite idealogy. It is a more basal, stronger and a fundamental factor that is encrypted in his very core.
A detail I like that shows Nolan is prepared for Viltrumites (and possibly learned to fight strategically while on earth) Nolan only targets their heads. The other vitrumites keep going for torso combos in order to have a long protracted fight. Nolan keeps his torso protected with armor, a vulnerability he exploited against Lucan. He isn't trying to battle them, He's trying to end them.
Mark actually has a fighting style unlike most viltrumites, they are so powerful that don't require tecnique just brute force they're way in a fight, i think that's one of the reason Mark has the upperhand in this fight, that and because he is part human and is afraid to die, the adrenaline in his human part give him a huge buff while fighting.
Right, I think many of these viltrumites also don't have the same experience of fighting powerful foes that Mark does, so they've gotten complacent with simply overwhelming their enemies with brute force.
This is why i wished some superheroes trained to fight with technique instead of brute force. That is why i liked zoom and reverse flash. They could fight so their speed added to that.
I partially agree with you, though the Viltrumites seem to have this creepy karate-like fighting style. It allows them to unzip your innards, liberate your head from your shoulders and turn you into a donut, even if you have similar durability to their own. I mean, just look at what Omni-Man did to Lucan with his finger tips. The lady ... whose name I don't recall ... would need to have some fighting skill to control her braid blade. However, I agree that even if they have fighting styles, it's probably pretty sloppy compared to someone like Mark who has lots of recent experience with actual threats. You might know how to shatter bricks with a karate chop, but that doesn't mean you'll be able to do anything against a karate master in a real fight. They also seem to neglect blocks and dodges - high offense, little defense, except for tanking their way to victory, so I agree with you there. Ironically, Omni-Man telling Mark that he's invincible might have outlined a key flaw in his mindset. *The Viltrumites see themselves as invincible. Mark, despite his name, quickly learnt that he's not, so he fights like it.*
Actually Mark could be the strongest viltrumite because he is from earth, therefore he uses different fighting techniques as seen in this battle, Viltrumites however don't fight like that, but rely mostly on physical force in battle, which can be easily evadable. Imagine a Viltrumite who knows martial arts.
Mark is strong and resilient af, he just lacks the malice to be actually brutal, not the strenght. Of course, being good is more important, but there's a thing or two to learn with his father in regards to combat
I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a “uh oh they’re about to die, somebody better save them at the last second” moment where a person just calls for help and actually gets it
Mark has so many similarities to Gohan from DBZ. Doesn’t necessarily want to fight or hurt others, but moments of rage that’s gives him a massive power boost.
0:21 I like to think Mark purposely didnt hit first. He couldve easily hit her full force but he stopped. Maybe he wanted to give her a 2nd chance and hes still wanting to hold back. Probably not the intention of the animators/director but its a nice thought.
Yes it should but that’s why this is unique if they do that I guess it will be a copy of kryptonians without heat visions and other ability. I mean you can’t even damage a kryptonian like this. I love how they made this fight so raw and honest
That's true but they don't regenerate instantly. They would need somebody to stop the bleeding, patch them up, etc. They're not gonna lay on the ground and fully recover by themselves from getting their skull caved in or their jaw removed...
@@GeekProdigyGuyI mean, they kinda do, depending on the situation. Mark got donuted by conquest and all he needed to regenerate was Nolan putiting his insides... inside again and bandaging him. Like, his spine was split in half and all he needed to recover was some bandages and a few weeks.
@@CarnerioTostado literally the examples you gave fit my description exactly... like yeah he recovers from those injuries but they needed another person to do minimal first aid etc. if he hadn't gotten help he'd have bled out in the dirt.
Wow show Mark is already boxing Viltrumites and is on even playing field, at this time in the comics he was basically fodder to them So I’m guessing they made Mark much much stronger now
It makes sense tho. He’s Nolan’s son, a high ranking soldier. Also it’s shown before this that mark is no pushover and fights like a boar, continuing despite potentially fatal injuries
I love this show the most when it goes into tight choreography combined with its brutal nature. That sequence of effective blocks and brutal counterattacks, combined with the satisfying impacts and grunts from Mark is SO good. I do think the later part of the fight with the cuts is a little weak in comparison, but still!
Their punches to each other (viltrumites fighting each other) sound like slamming metal. If this metal also somehow had very squishy sounding innards like a human as well. The metal sounding sounds are definitely because of how viltrumites have the insane durability I assume.
Fun fact: Mark is STILL holding back here! The combo he uses is the same that we saw Nolan use on the Immortal in 2x01. All Mark had to do was extend his fingers to cut her head off. And yet, he still held back even when it’s everything on the line.
Having long hair in a battle is like-- the worst disadvantage you can have 🤣🤣 especially in a long rope-like braid like that, once your opponent just grabs it, you're done. Worse than having a cape. I do think the blade is pretty cool though.
probably a blade made of Rognarr's claw. Hence the question I have been asking myself.... why don't viltrumites use weapons and armor made from Rognarr's claws?
@@mrwolf84 Who can say? Probably because those blades are just as dangerous to themselves as to their enemies. We see a considerably experienced viltrumite use it as a weapon, but no others here.
@@Ripplistic the fact that the coalition of planets does not know a way to kill viltrumites does not mean that there is none, as Nolan teaches us well: Battle Beast, The Ragnorr Space Racer
Honestly, I can’t believe that anyone except Nolan survived this. Vigor ( ginger guy) is for 99% dead, we know that to kill viltrumite you have to go for the head, the damage he sustained is lethal or will leave him in degenerated state. We haven’t seen such damage before. For the woman, as someone mentioned, big chances for her death is that she suffocated because of jaw breaking ( think it’s pretty clear, that suffocation is connected to damage to brain, so makes sense). Actually, black guy may survived, since there was no damage to head. And Nolan - oh he will recover, not a big deal.
The woman “Thula” is definitely alive. In the comics, she ends surviving till the very end of the series, and makes a moral change of heart the same way Omni-Man does.
Hey sweet upload, I somehow saw this scene in 3 different uploads yesterday and they all cut off right after the "I'd say you fought well" remark without even finishing the sentence.
Honestly, it's no surprise Mark managed to get on even ground against them considering he got beat up by his Dad before and after 6 months he probably got trained to fight possible threats or in case other people like Nolan show up.
I loved the savage combat from nolan, and seeing mark actually Able to kill a standard viltrumite soldier is pretty impressive for his age given he’s a baby by their standards, too bad we have to wait until after new years probably
I love how this show isn't even all that impressive visually. But the animation is so quick, clean, and to the point. It's not afraid to actually let you see what's going on in the fight. And when things get really serious the visuals dont just turn into a bunch of flashing lights and impact frames. The show feels very fresh. Reminds me of the old justice league unlimited
Thats what i always give DC animated shows and movies credit. They are VERY fluid and clear with their fight scenes. Something anime could learn to do better especially these days. And you know.......actually fighting with showing and less dialogue during the fight
An interesting point, but the only thing that will do is create some very tough bullets. It damages other Viltrumites because Viltrumites are very, very strong, not because it's some anti-viltrumite material, at least from what I know.

In fact, he actually is one of the strongest, he is above-average, but Mark is on a whole another level, he's just too fricking strong, he's barely an adult and he can take on Viltrumites that are millenia old

It took a moment of hesitation to lose the fight. Impressive shift, but Mark is still mark. This is the first time he stopped holding back.

Love how in 0:48 they did their own rendition of the 2 page spread from Ryan Ottley in the comics where it just shows an all out slugfest of the viltrumites against Mark and Nolan. One of my favourite spreads in the comic.
0:25...that combo, finishing with the backhander, was so Viltrumite
This season finale is going to be crazy, and s3 will break the internet

This scene was so badass. It's nice to see Mark slowly come into his own instead of figuring things out all at once. If he didn't struggle, the story wouldn't be any fun to watch.
See that's why you never mess with a man's family even if Omni-nan does not admit it he cares deeply for his family

@@INFINITE-VERSUS_SHOWDOWN and it doesn't matter how evil a Villan is even they have one's they are willing to protect with their lives
@DzinkyDzink we can se what Nolan can do when hebfaced the guardias and Cecilcontingency plans, he was holding back vs mark.

same combo Nolan used in killing Immortal but Mark is still holding back and didn't go for the kill
Man. 0:22 - 0:28 is probably my favorite combat sequence in the whole show so far. It was just SO SMOOTH
The soundtrack is beautiful
A detail I like that shows Nolan is prepared for Viltrumites (and possibly learned to fight strategically while on earth) Nolan only targets their heads. The other vitrumites keep going for torso combos in order to have a long protracted fight. Nolan keeps his torso protected with armor, a vulnerability he exploited against Lucan. He isn't trying to battle them, He's trying to end them.
When he fights serious, it’s almost like he’s technical with the way he throws his punches and how he dodges attacks, huge improvement.
love how 1:03 just randomly came out of nowhere 😂
They could fight so their speed added to that.
anime should be banned
You are going to see later at least some viltrumites do train
Mark, despite his name, quickly learnt that he's not, so he fights like it.*
guess you could say that's a.... *jaw dropping moment?*
😂😂😂😂😂
I like how the thumbnail is literally him holding back
Actually Mark could be the strongest viltrumite because he is from earth, therefore he uses different fighting techniques as seen in this battle, Viltrumites however don't fight like that, but rely mostly on physical force in battle, which can be easily evadable. Imagine a Viltrumite who knows martial arts.
Mark is strong and resilient af, he just lacks the malice to be actually brutal, not the strenght. Of course, being good is more important, but there's a thing or two to learn with his father in regards to combat
I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a “uh oh they’re about to die, somebody better save them at the last second” moment where a person just calls for help and actually gets it
I can't wait for Conquest to pull up. 😂

That first Elbow to the face + Punch follow up was DELISCIOUS!

Yeah
I like to think that he was realizing how strong he was when he stopped holding back.@@INFINITE-VERSUS_SHOWDOWN
I absolutely love when the Invincible theme kicks in. Chills
Viltrumite DNA should allow them to recover from mortal wounds that would seem impossible for humans.
@@GeekProdigyGuynot true most of the time
@@CarnerioTostado literally the examples you gave fit my description exactly... like yeah he recovers from those injuries but they needed another person to do minimal first aid etc. if he hadn't gotten help he'd have bled out in the dirt.
Mark decided to become the boss fight instead of being in one, you love to see it.
Wow show Mark is already boxing Viltrumites and is on even playing field, at this time in the comics he was basically fodder to them
So I’m guessing they made Mark much much stronger now
Yes
It makes sense tho. He’s Nolan’s son, a high ranking soldier. Also it’s shown before this that mark is no pushover and fights like a boar, continuing despite potentially fatal injuries
I'm thinking they might change the fight against Thragg a bit so that Mark can get some hits in.
I love this show the most when it goes into tight choreography combined with its brutal nature. That sequence of effective blocks and brutal counterattacks, combined with the satisfying impacts and grunts from Mark is SO good. I do think the later part of the fight with the cuts is a little weak in comparison, but still!

I got hyped when Mark’s theme started playing in the background
Lol
I'm really glad the show actually does justice to the comics' gruesome combats (especially for the Viltrumite tier fights)
Grey Delisle is still in fine form in her performance as Thula. Love hearing her voice a sadistic villain again.
Fits perfectly
0:18 That bgm was spot on. I am super excited for upcoming episodes .
*Omniman* : lock tf in.
*Mark* : Ight fine….
Their punches to each other (viltrumites fighting each other) sound like slamming metal. If this metal also somehow had very squishy sounding innards like a human as well. The metal sounding sounds are definitely because of how viltrumites have the insane durability I assume.
Omni man keeps on giving nether realm new brutalities 😭

Fun fact: Mark is STILL holding back here! The combo he uses is the same that we saw Nolan use on the Immortal in 2x01. All Mark had to do was extend his fingers to cut her head off.
And yet, he still held back even when it’s everything on the line.
you know my favourite part about this fight? it's not completely one sided and shows both sides laying into each other.
0:19 that was clean
Having long hair in a battle is like-- the worst disadvantage you can have 🤣🤣 especially in a long rope-like braid like that, once your opponent just grabs it, you're done. Worse than having a cape. I do think the blade is pretty cool though.
So true! I knew it would be used against her once I saw for the first time in the show even cape too is a disadvantage
probably a blade made of Rognarr's claw.
Hence the question I have been asking myself....
why don't viltrumites use weapons and armor made from Rognarr's claws?
@@mrwolf84No one can stop them anyways why would they need that?
@@mrwolf84 Who can say? Probably because those blades are just as dangerous to themselves as to their enemies. We see a considerably experienced viltrumite use it as a weapon, but no others here.
@@Ripplistic the fact that the coalition of planets does not know a way to kill viltrumites does not mean that there is none, as Nolan teaches us well:

Damn, if Mark is this strong not holding back and he’s STILL maturing into his powers, he’s gonna be even stronger than Omni-Man some day
Honestly, I can’t believe that anyone except Nolan survived this.
Lucan was worse 😂😂
You also need to damage the heart
The woman “Thula” is definitely alive. In the comics, she ends surviving till the very end of the series, and makes a moral change of heart the same way Omni-Man does.
If you've read the comics, you'd know that Conquest survived having his head getting smashed.
@@KnyteMan I never checked comics so… thx for info. So according to comics, who died here ?
Mark shows how human he isthrough his fighting style. He dodges and blocks while delivering powerful blows. Viltrumites don't block or dodge.

Hey sweet upload, I somehow saw this scene in 3 different uploads yesterday and they all cut off right after the "I'd say you fought well" remark without even finishing the sentence.

In the comics Mark was just getting folded but the show at least showed that he’s more capable when he doesn’t hold back
That's because in the comics they wanted to show how weak Mark is as a half viltrumite, this is why I like the Animated Series more than a comics
Honestly, it's no surprise Mark managed to get on even ground against them considering he got beat up by his Dad before and after 6 months he probably got trained to fight possible threats or in case other people like Nolan show up.

I pretty sure Thula isn’t a standard Viltrumite soldier. She is a elder who survived the Great Purge so, that makes Mark more impressive.

Was it ever explained what Thula's hair knife is made out of? because it's strong enough to hurt viltrumites
That's Right, Mark. Be Less Weak.
They really need to make bullets out of whatever that hair blade is made of.

An interesting point, but the only thing that will do is create some very tough bullets. It damages other Viltrumites because Viltrumites are very, very strong, not because it's some anti-viltrumite material, at least from what I know.
