- Hey guys! Nice to see everyone again!
I decided to do a deep dive into "Here, There and Everywhere" due to - spoiler alert - an upcoming episode of our podcast. I thought this would be a fun, simple cover. Not the case!
Every track has something interesting and unique going on, and I still have some unanswered questions. How did Paul manage to get that dry, snappy tone? Is that two Strats on the lead riffs, or could it be a Rickenbacker 12-string? Is Paul using his fingers on the bass or a pick?
I did my patented Michael Sokil OCD-esque full immersion, and I came to these conclusions:
Ringo is playing the drums with mallets, which is clear when you hear the dull attack on the cymbals. His fills are pretty straightforward - linear and uncomplicated - unitl that last fill, which I loved figuring out. Very cool to notice a Ringo-esque swing fill in this plain, romantic ballad.
Paul's guitar playing is pretty much just his ordinary simple acoustic fingerpicking style. Two fingers only, thumb and index. In my "research," I realized that this might be the only Beatles tune with Paul fingerpicking an electric guitar. The only other possibilities are something subtle like the buried rhythm guitar on "Good Day Sunshine" (thumb sweeping) or maybe the lead fills on "Maxwell's Silver Hammer." I do hear the same tone and fingerpicking on the McCartney song "That Would Be Something" - the tone is actually very close. I also cheated considerably by picking and choosing from my best takes to match Paul's quirky style. For some reason, fingerpicking my Casino was surprisingly unnatural. I wonder if Paul's was more playable than mine. Not sure!
Paul's bass overdub is surprisingly awesome. He plays two or three neat fills during the song, then breaks out a really cool fill at the end I'd never heard before. The isolations reveal all! I concluded he's using a pick because I'm hearing a chord in those transitional fills, but I won't rule out that he might've used his fingers.
The lead guitars are a mystery. They're on the basic track, and either it's two guitars (John and George) or it's George or John on a Rickenbacker 12-string. If you listen to the outtakes on the Revolver reissue, you can hear that (1) the riffs are shorter on the basic track, which means they were extended in the overdub, and (2) there are indeed slight timing differences in the riff, which to me makes it more likely it's two separate guitars. But I won't rule out the 12-string - I recorded a version of the riffs with my 360-12c63 and it's very close! I'll put out a second version with the 12-string soon. Props to Sam Popkin to opening my eyes to the possibility of 4 Strats on the track.
Awesome song. I hope you guys like the annotations - I think it's a cool way to illustrate some of the things I hear on the track while you're watching the cover. Let me know what you think!
This makes me so happy. Like we’ve been given a rare, unheard Beatles take.
What do you guys think of the annotations? Good addition?
Yes!! They are really neat and you probably should add in your upcoming videos!
@@MichaelSokil Yeah, really cool.
Yes, I love the information. Thank you for the extra work!
So good, please do this for all your incredible covers going forward
Yes - they’re interesting and don’t intrude on the rest of the video
Welcome back, Michael. We've missed your instrumental recreations.
what a tone
It's your joyful smile on drums that gets me here, there and everywhere.
So real, I was expecting after the fade to hear, "In the town where I was born, lived a man who sailed to sea". Really. I did. Welcome back, by the way.
It feels like I'm actually in the studio watching the Beatles record this. And I'm stunned at your dedication in these meticulous recreations. Being 70, it's amazing to realize people younger than me could could be so religious in their devotion -- you are truly the supreme high priest! If not the pope!
Masterpiece and magic
My favorite Beatles song
I love this song
One of the best on Revolver! I've always liked that little bass lick at 1:23
He's back
Looooooove the change of scenery and the lighting. Adds a special touch!
My favorite track from Revolver and you did it brilliantly! I’ve never noticed the double bass drum hit at 1:20!
Good to see you here too, David! You are both amazing!
This song is such a masterpiece, the refreshing way Paul shifts through different keys with this smooth melody is impressive, really good ear and songwriting. Love the vocal harmonies aswell, the boys really worked as a team back then, all of them did their best to make the record sound great, blending nicely all their voices together . I Love this atmosphere and creative energy on Rubber Soul and Revolver. Well done Michael! Sounds authentic.
Wow!!! Excellent
Lovely! My favorite Beatles song ❤
Welcome back Micheal! We've all missed your covers. Hope 2025 is better for you :D
This is masterful! Thank you.
Lovingly and meticulously recreated. Thank you.
Genial, Michael!
Me hiciste emocionar.
Majestic! One of my all
Time favorites!
incredible, man... just incredible.
Absolute perfection
very enjoyable - thanks for posting
Oh, that sounds so lovely! And yes, annotations are a great idea!
Very cool! Definitely made the right choice to put their backing vocals with it!
What a perfect cover! Each one keeps getting better! I don’t think that you can tell this apart from the real thing!
Once again, an amazing recreation and beautiful performance of The Beatles. Your commitment to doing them justice is truly inspiring.
New upload day is always a good day!
IF this could be bottled as medicine, no one would ever be sick again. Thank You Michael! The Beatles were a part of my Entire Family growing up! Mom and my older sister were dreamy over The Boys....me and my brothers wanted to wear our hair like them AND My Military Dad loved venting his frustrations about their music! Kumbaya From Ohio 🤣👋
It's been a while! We miss your recreations!
Wonderful
I’m so happy you posted this masterpiece of a masterpiece. And yes, the annotations are great. This song, to my knowledge is the one and only Paul/beatles song john admired aloud. And admired it enough to take the chords for his own song, woman. Which if anyone has a right to, it’s him. .. don’t get me wrong I’m a dyed in the wool john fanatic with an I Love John button I wear.
Absolutely love this channel. If possible, could you put the tone and volume settings in the description? Again, thank you for all of the work you do in showcasing how complex yet simple the Beatles catalog is. KEEP ON ROCKIN ME MICHAEL
Amazing. Your understanding and attention to every detail are truly remarkable.
So glad to hear your work again, Michael.
Great job. I never played the guitar part like that. Going to try it right now !
I mean this is so good that I hear in the town where I was bornin my mind when it ends :)
Incredible! Your channel never ceases to amaze me Michael.
GOLD🙌🏻🔥
Just excellent! More Beatles please.👍😉
Gear, There and Everywhere. Sokil back on the beat.😀
nice Micheal! that's one of my favorite bass lines to play, was waiting for this one
good as always!
Just when I thought you were gone for good! Although it's impossible to pick a favourite Beatles' song, this might be mine. And you couldn't have done it better.
He’s alive! Well done, my man!
Superb.
Great sharing your wonderful cover!! Have a nice day, dear my friend!
Good work as always!!
This is awesome. Reminds me of pop up videos from VH1 lol. Great job!
Without those bubbles! 😉
Lovely recreation! Spot on! Even the strumming patterns play such a huge difference! I always assumed Paul did arpeggio style pluckings. Did John have any contributions on this song besides vocals?
Backing vocals and perhaps the lead guitar riffs! Maybe the finger snaps, too - but we’ll never know for sure!
Welcome back Sokil!! I’m glad you’re doing fine man with family duties and personal stuff. Overall, great cover my man and the editing is getting better!
Beautiful song of a beautiful album!!! nailed it as always, good job!!!
Never seen a cover like this! It's wonderfull! Keep it up!
Amazing cover Michael! Great to see you back.
Absolutely brilliant Michael!!! Your recordings are as close to an original Beatles recording as you could possibly get!!
Wow!
Thanks Michael, For this, you are The Best! Doug, up in Green Bay, WI
here you are again - brilliant as usual
Really nice.
So great to have you back! I absolutely love the effort you put into making these, the audio and the video. The annotations are nice as well! Such a classic to come back with as well, one of my favourite Beatles songs.
Superb ❤
LOVED the annotations
those inspired by casinos are amazing I own on and it's by far my fav guitar
I love the piano arrangement that Paul would play live on tour. There's a great IEM bootleg version from 2017. Wix plays some really tasteful string stuff-- I wonder how it would have sounded had it been recorded that way in 66.
Great point! I found a soundboard version of that arrangement in my "research" and made a stereo mix with LALA.AI. I'm planning to talk about it on our podcast episode - very interesting he changed the key to F!
@ I love watching your podcast. So great to see as nerdy Beatle people as me out there... Rock on
@ Also, it's interesting that the key is a step lower-- usual Paul doesn't alter the keys on these songs, even if its high up for him. He doesn't really sing it falsetto in that register-- him and Brian Wilson got away from that as they got older. Also, playing it in F on piano is a little more difficult than G-- it feels so good to play on the white keys (mostly) in G
Awesome!! Are we to assume that George is on the Casino because of that C chord barred at the third fret?
That was beautiful
Wonderful!
very cool
Great cover. I guess the annotations will avoid the common questions thats in the description lol
MIchael - love the rendition! What video editing software do you use for the multicam shots? It looks great
Adobe Premiere Pro! Very easy to use!
Awesome, love that! How do you get this tone so accurate to the original?
Lots of trial and error!
Is it also possible it’s John’s Guild Starfire XII? It was a brand-new guitar at the time and it would make sense to bring some new gear to the studio. Sam has access to one, you guys should do a comparison.
And now that Michael is working on "Revolver", can "And Your Bird Can Sing", or "Hey Bulldog" be far away? That's going to be really something!!!
Congratulations, greetings from Reunion Island.
Are the slippers period correct as well? Hell of a job!
I was waiting for someone to mention the slips
Beautiful. Just to work on that tone.
I wonder if the double on the kick was to mirror one of Paul’s bass riffs?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Like the annotations…
You looks like George Martins family lol
Can you isolate all the tracks for all the songs that you do, please?
is this the first video with the new drum mic setup? or am i just slow on the uptake?
Ah yes, my favorite thing to do when Michael Sokil drops a video is to think I am Paul and sing badly as the instrumental plays in the background. The instrumental is indistinguishable from the original, but sadly the same cannot be said about my singing.
Excellent. Is your Casino an old one, made in America, or the Japanese one (I have)?
What mallets are you using on the drums?
fake recording
you are just dubbing
unsubacribing
Thanks for watching! Just to clarify, the audio is entirely my performance (besides the backing vocals). While the video shows multiple takes for visual variety, the audio is a carefully edited mix of my best takes to ensure the highest quality. I also study the original isolated tracks to stay as accurate as possible, which is part of the fun for me! If you want something more "live," that's not what my channel is about. Sorry to see you go, but I appreciate your feedback.
@@MichaelSokil He misspelled unsubscribing so maybe he's not.
I thought he was kidding because its so good
