The more i look at new and coming soon cars, the more i realize im sticking with previous generation cars. I would really like to know who were the geniuses that saw that dashboard and gave the thumbs up. A healthy mix of digital and "old school" buttons is how it should be.

I feel the same way. Currently I'm in the market for a Mini Cooper SE and was thinking about a previous gen used model or lease one of these new models. I really dislike that new interior style of the 2024 redesign. Call it dislike on first sight, but this ugly interior is one of the reasons why I'm actually going to get an earlier model. That new one just looks sterile, uninteresting and boring. I am a fan of all those switches, buttons and knobs of my current 2011 Clubman.

Don’t agree at all with the premium feeling. Take away the logo in the interior and it could be some generic brand. The door panels are flat, no comfort seats and fabric does not make a car look more premium. The shot with the opened hood makes want to put on my sunglasses. So many visible nuts ant bolts it does not give me a premium feeling. Nor do the huge panel gaps. They focussed too much on the funky stuff and forgot the basics. Hopefully the final version look a lot better than this. And what about the location. A barn with a forklift in the back 🙈

As an owner of Mini Cooper SE I am in shock. I love my car and I thought I will never move from a Mini. Seeing this is disheartening. The renders looked good, but the reality is quite different. The materials look incredibly cheap. No metal buttons, no leather with the cool stitching pattern, everything is a a cheap fabric (which gets dirty easily and hard to touch, I can not stand it in a Polestar) and cheap plastic. Moonroof is useless if you can not open it, the convertible effect is gone. No center display with the navigation, only the hideous piece of plastic aka Head up display, which had to be disabled, it's so distractive. All the premium feel, cute lines and fun are gone. And a cherry on top, it's build in China. Thank you for making it impossible to continue to be a Mini owner. I am going to switch to another brand when the time comes. Shame.

I drove the new electric Mini on Saturday for 30 minutes. It was in JCW trim in grey with a red roof. It’s absolutely fab - lovely chunky steering wheel, brilliant interior and it’s plenty quick, too.
The interior electric sound effects are great and really make it feel sporty, especially when it’s in Go-Kart mode.
The overall quality of the car was impressive. The boot, though was small - ok for a small trip to the shops but don’t expect to get a full weekly shop for 5-people in there.

All I can say is that I’m glad I bought the 2023 MINI Cooper S Convertible. Here in the U.S. the 2024 model year is practically identical to the 2023. I’m guessing the new generation MINI won’t be sold in the American market until 2025. Things that stand out for me is that the upcoming generation has no instrument cluster in front of the driver, instead all vital information like speed, rpm, and fuel is in that dinner-plate size infotainment in the middle. The controls are best where they’re located now with physical toggle switches. And the panoramic roof doesn’t even open - so sad! And I hate those un-MINI triangular taillights. Changing things just for the sake of changing make things worse not better. There’s nothing wrong with the current generation MINI. Perhaps it would have been better just to increase the horsepower and torque.

Thank you for the short but detailed review of this wonderful car.
My first mini goes back to 1972 and I loved it. This car is really back on Mini song. A judicious mix of real buttons and unique round display makes this a good but simple UI/UX. I very much like the choice of a small steering wheel in keeping with the original I once drove. Front wheel drive and, I hope, go-kart like handling should make this fun and safe in most weathers. I also love the shade of blue on the review car. I positively like the fact I can not have back seats filled with tall adults. I would of course set the display to the original speedo because the original design was so good.
To practicality, I am looking for an EV runabout for us to use when we are not using our SUVs for off road, towing horses, or long range. This car is on our short list along with the Mazda MX30 R EV, where we would get a PHEV capability. In terms of pure street cred this Mini wins hands down. In terms of practicality the Mazda wins for room with the seats down (for an EV bike) and for the PHEV versatility. My heart goes to the Mini.

As a 2023 mini SE owner, I like that the new gen does not have any piano black anywhere. They also managed a clean dash design, while maintaining important physical controls. I'm not sure about this light colored cloth dashboard though. It seems like a nightmare to keep stain free.

I love these cars. Driving them is so fun! But I can't justify the price for not being able to really carry 3+ people with it. Nobody wants to sit in the back seats....
Would I pay 30k for this one when I can get a model3 with 35k? Don't think so....

Exterior is awful. Especially the rear. Interior seems nice except the armrest. I don't get why manufacturers go for these small armrests that are attached to the seat.

😢 How can you say that this is a better cockpit than the previous model. I think most people agree that nothing can replace the classic bottoms on the dashboard, specifically for AC . I have the impression you like to please the manufacture with your strictly positive comments.

Worst mini I’ve ever seen. Minimalism in the worst way possible. They’re moving away from the design language that has been successful and been improved upon for generations? The German designers, or maybe Chinese, have lost the plot. I’m already tired of hearing about it!

It's bad for the environment where I live because we burn coal for electricity, then inefficiently transport the power to a battery. It is more efficient to use gasoline. Plus I worry about the environmental disaster of mining poisons for the battery and our failing infrastructure in my town in the US.

Drilling, pumping, refining, transporting, storing and fueling a petrol car use large amounts of energy. It is much more efficient to transport the electricity to your car, than the petrol production and transportation schemes.
Get photovoltaic on your roof, charge with rays of sun and become independent from the fossil industry.

I was an owner of a previous vintage model in 2004 and drove it until 2007. On the version shown here, I'm not sure I like the dashboard and I am not a a fan of the redesigned tail lights which now have a completely different shape. Sometimes supposed improvements are not really improvements. Can we please just keep some classic things the same? That's why all of us bought Mini's in the first place, we liked the original concept, no need to make any major changes!

It's a good looking thing! Given its a bespoke platform for the electric version, it seems strange it has proportionally quite a long bonnet/hood. I would have expected a shorter bonnet and greater rear/boot space.
Perhaps all the panels and interiors are shared with the ICE versions so it has to be proportioned that way for the engines versions, even though it's not a shared platform.
