I would have appreciated if you had included an elapsed time and amount of coolant used. The video was great and helped. The above just a suggestion. Thank you both!
A few unanswered questions here, especially block coolant, not flushed. But Jordan, your reference to dirty coolant, that truck came with Fords gold coolant and that's kinda the color.
The 5.4 engine takes 20.9 quarts, or 19.4 liters. You need distilled water for the modern coolant formulations. Have up to 15 gallons of distilled water on hand. Drain the coolant. Refill with distilled water. Remove the thermostat. Run the engine for 5 minutes while periodically revving it up to 3,000 - 3,500 RPM. Follow same procedure to fill up to line on bottle. Drain. Repeat until the system is clean, with clear distilled water. Drain half the water. Reinstall the thermostat. Fill with concentrate meeting spec WSS-M97B51-A1 .
why mix new coolant with the old left behind inside the block and heater core ?... seems to me this is only a half of the job !...the whole system takes about 20 qts. !
Thanks for the direct step by step to the point instructions without any bullshit , and safe 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 also no one said it was dirty , they said it obviously needed changed , looks like they were running straight water in that bitch
My Explorer is due a 6 year coolant change. I do not trust shops on these things for 2 reasons. One, it is so easy to say you did all this stuff if coolant looked new anyway. Had this happen on my 07 Ram and I feel I was scammed. The more I talked with the teck, the more I felt that way. Too old to do the work my self now so I must use a shop. This video did not make me feel any better. Drained the radiator and added some coolant to mix with the dirty stuff in the block. Not sure I feel the chemical flush does any good. May even harm but do believe in the coolant swap. As other suggested, refill and re drain may get some more old fluid out and we need to know the new mix is what is needed for the winter.🦇
Ideally you'll want to pull drain plugs and get it all out, you can also actively flush it out or drain and fill a few times to get most of the old stuff out.
I start with a cold engine. Drain the radiator leaving the petcock open and start the engine. When the engine opens the thermostat the block coolant will then come out into radiator. It will be hot and thats when you know the block is empty. As soon as you see the flow slow down shut the engine off so it doesn't run hot.Close petcock and refill.
What is that sound in start up the rattle some one said they need to open my motor and check maybe timing chain but I traveled to miles and no sign of engine problems only on start up the rattle
I bought a 2008 f150 4.6. The heater does not work on it. The other day it started to overheat. I replaced the thermostat and ran fine for awhile. A few days after it started getting hot again. What should i do?
If you're continuing to overheat after replacing the thermostat, then it means you might have a leak somewhere, either externally or internally into the engine. You have to get under the truck to see and check the hoses.
I had a 2000s explorer that used yellow coolant, tried putting some generic green stuff and it caused a ton of problems. Seals went bad and it seemed like it ate part of the hose. No problems at all until I put the other stuff in it. If you do use the other stuff make sure you flush out the system completely.
Why don’t you feel the radiator up if you drained it. But you only filled the resivor up. The resivor doesn’t hold enough coolant in it to fill the radiator up. And why didn’t you flush the engine of the old coolant as well.
Let's see did I miss something no radiator flush,No running water unto clear ,block is still filled with the old fluid, heater core still with old fluid, Heat wasn't put on to help circulation. Guys your videos influence guys that look for a way to do this kind of stuff if you going do it do it right and not your interpretation of this 1/2 stepping.
He actually did turn the heat all the way up at 4:35 . One of the problems with flushing the system with a hose is the water. Tap water. Now you're going to have tap water in the system. All that tap water in the engine block is going to be bad with the modern coolant formulations.
Thanks for the direct step by step to the point instructions without any bullshit , and safe 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Straight coolant! 😮
For those wondering, the mixture is 50/50 w/ one gallon motorcraft gold coolant & one gallon distilled water!
If your coolant was so dirty, wouldn't it have been a good idea to flush the system before refilling it?

A good flush is to open the fill port on the engine block alot of debris down there that doest come up on that drain by the radiator
Where is this at?🦇

How long are you letting the truck run each time you start it up?
It’s supposed to get up to operating temp!
@@outdoorswithclay that makes a lot of sense since he cautiously removes the cap as though it's hot.
Excellent video. Very helpful. Thanks...
That truck has seen better days
Wen u started the truck to circulate the coolant how long to you run it for in between filling???
Great informative video again Chris and Jordan...
Thank you guys this information is always good
What about the coolant in the engine block. Won't it contaminate the new coolant?
Ideally you'll want to pull drain plugs and get it all out, you can also actively flush it out or drain and fill a few times to get most of the old stuff out.
@@LemurMonitors how would you flush the block, too?
@@LemurMonitors Explain where the drain plugs are.🦇

How much water did you add?
Is the 3/8" hose you used on the petcock 3/8" inside diameter hose or is 3/8" the outside diameter of the hose? Thank you for this video!
What if the heater of my truck is canceled? I don't need to turn it on correct?.
Thanks for the video

Possibly a exhaust manifold leak. It’s almost like a ticking sound. Not a huge issue if that’s the case

Can I use prestone brand? . It's green color and it says it's compatible with all colors of refrigerant. I have the same truck.

Coolant temperature sensor how to change it out
Why did the supply list say 3/8mm hose
What if you get air in the system and it won’t take coolant ? Thanks
Same problem. Drained it. Flushed it. Added new. New coolant will not flow. Just rises in reservoir.
Are you using full strength or 50/50 mix ?
This is premix because we're lazy
Great video.
I couldn’t see where you loosen the water to leak out
How many gallons of coolant did it take to fill up in total?
Two

That ENGINE looks and sounds like SHIT!!!
🤣
Lol
Thought it was just me😭😂😂
Aren't all fords like that?
This veido is to dark can't see any thing.
WOW! My owners manual says capacity is 21 quarts or more than 5 gallons
Looks like you used less than 1.
Was that some kind of special edition 5.4?
They didn't do a full coolant flush. On the 5.4 engine there's still 2-3 gallons in the block and heater core.
