Can anyone explain why they don't clean forest around residential areas to create fire barrier?
Because we like living near trees
They actually tried but a bunch of stupid environmentalists tied themselves to the bulldozers and firetrucks when they tried to perform a controlled burn. You will never see that on CBC news though.
They already do. The wind carries the fire.
They have a Fire Smart program here in Fort Mac, where they clear out the underbrush all around the perimeter of town. The big trees are still there, but underbrush is all clear.
And they do actually have fire barriers cut in many parts of the forest nearby.
@URProductions So I've heard that the first fire was started because the environmentalists stopped a controlled burn. Things built up then of course a small fire built up to massive proportions.

Oh no, no Ft McMurray again. 😢
Something radical has to be done to house construction materials that prevent or stop wildfires from destroying the homes of many hard-working people!
Or we could, you know, act on climate change so every year isn't record-setting heat and drought. But you're right, metal houses are probably the answer.
Wood is cheap to build with. Vinyl siding is highly flamable, i'd go with hardy board (cement based board) because its cement not flamable. don't use any spray foam or rigid insulation either those are both highly flamable and create toxic fumes when they burn and even when offgassing sometimes
@@sensequest I hope construction companies take your valuable insight into account! Who knows how many homes have been destroyed or are under threat by wildfires??
It has not been a hot dry spring up here. Moderate temperatures and scattered rain and snow. Climate change is not causing wildfires, idiots flicking cigarette butts and roaches into dry grass are starting the fires. 10,000 dollar fines for any person seen throwing a butt would solve a lot of this.
