I have one of these stored away in a case since i bought it back in 2003, need to look it out. It had the EMG Hz which many peope knock but I'm glad I just kept it all original and mint.

Good, informative video Keith. Some time ago I sold Chinese one with EMG HZ pickups in it. So it's not a rule that they come only with actives. Probably it was early Chinese production model. But Korean ones are way better quality anyway.
Korea doesn't have anything on modern day chinese counterparts lol
Indonesia makes good ones, though. And korea decimated early chinese models..

What do you prefer in built quality, wood quality? Is there difference in the weight of the guitars?
I was wondering if you could help me. I have a Zakk Wylde Bullseye guitar too the problem is I need to replace the nut and I can't find the right information on the size. The only information I could find was to do with the nut width which only says 1.68". I have nothing else to go on I can't find anything at all when I do a search for it I get zero hits if I type in 1.68" I tried several 4.2mm nut's but none of them would fit properly no matter how much filing I did. I just want to get another plastic one If I had the actual size I would have my guitar working properly. If you could help I would be grateful.
hi..I have Korean one..from 2003 ...on its stamped 2nd..and serial is a sticker..so I guess it had problem and was fixed. EMG-s are passive, and there is sticker of date of production on it.... I swapped EMGs with WIZZ pickups..and guitar is monster now...

Thank you for your time making this video. I'm going to look at one tomorrow morning that is on Facebook market place. From the photo posted the n is just regular and doesn't come down. I looked at new Epiphone Lps online and seems to be how Epiphone does the n.

Hey Kieth... I picked it up. Actually I traded my Mexican Strat for it. No dings or scratches. The serial # check shows it was made November 2011. It also appears to have an Ebony fret board. I ordered Music Nomad F one fret board oil and One cleaner to clean it up.
This video is awesome and contains some great information. But... There are some things you have wrong. Not all Chinese models had the Zakk Wylde EMG pickup set. They did make some Chinese models with EMG HZ pickups. Feel free to Google a 2010 Epiphone Zakk Wylde and you will see several of them out there that were made in China with EMG HZ pickups as well as a Epiphone logo it has a crooked e at the end of it. I plan on posting a video this weekend about 1 that I have.
Dude I just got a 2008 Factory 2nd brand new because it was sitting in a storage for over 10 years. It is exactly like the Korean ones but Chinese.
What Epi is best ? and How many versions are there meaning China/ Japan/ USA/ Custom shop then is Custom shop Usa or other country?

My zack wild epiphonechecks out to be a Korean made. I have question or two. Mine has a 2nd stamped into the wood on the headstock ubove the serial numbers
U03012247.Also my stamp on the bottom of the back of the headstock has epiphone on top and limited edition on the bottom not custom shop. Every single thing else completely checks out. There is also a sticker 100 perce t inspected and set up in USA by epiphone LOGO not spelled. Help please

i heard korean u serial epiphones had great quality, the factory has been closed tho. the name of company was unsung (was pronaunced 'eun-seong'). i've had u serial birdeye maple top lp classic was so cool.

I just got a brand new factory 2nd 2008 Chinese version and its insane because it is the exact same as the Korean model with passive pickups and it is a one piece maple neck. It isn't fake either as I contacted Epiphone and they confirmed that is indeed real. The serial number is legit too. I have never seen one like it but I'm guessing they were just beginning to make them in the China factory and had them made the same way? I would love to get your input. I have all the info it came with including the Epiphone warranty cards and factory 2nd stamps and everything. I am quite baffled by it and I feel like its one of a kind because I have never seen another Chinese one that is like the Korean ones. The person I purchased it from had a family member die in 2008 and he had a bunch of instruments that went into storage in boxes/cases and they're just now selling them. I got very lucky and I have offers for $800 already because it still has the foam on the switch selector.
Does Epiphone typically show willingness to authenticate each guitar? I generally stay away from the Zakk Wylde models because of the many fakes there are.
Hey mate good vid, I'm confused though now lol mine is an 05 Korean as far as I can tell, it has the scarf joint, the HZ pick ups, the blury 3 ringed zakk logo, the smaller custom logo under it but it doesn't have a serial number with U, it's a number and the archers on the head are more shallow? So everything tells me it's Korean besides the serial number and arches, any ideas?

After 2011 they were available with ebony fretboards (except camo bullseye)

So i must ask , i know all guitars are different, but in general which version did you find better , Korea or Chinese ?
If you told me the Chinese one was built in Korea, I wouldn't know any better. The fit and finish to me seems the same. The biggest differences are the scarf joint in the neck of the Koreans and the HZ passive pickups in the Korean models vs the active pickups in the Chinese. Korean made guitars are generally the best asian import models for all brands behind Japanese made models. If I had to pick one (and I don't mind either really), I'd buy a Korean model just because there is so much crap that comes out of China, and their quality control as a nation is generally poor.

Chinese models would not have the Scarf joint. Also were these made as late as 2015? When did Wylde Audio launch?
Yeah, in 2015 the production of Epiphone ended, and Wylde Audio Began, so this is one of the last models

Do a Google search on that. The letter is the factory code. All of mine have begun with a U
arlan greer I got mine from Sweetwater new in, I wanna say 2007 or 2008. Camo, serial starts with “I”
Mine begins with I and is an 05 korean
As far as I know the year is the first number and the 5th on Gibsons.

Just google "guitar neck scarf joint" and you will see. It is the rounded joining part where the headstock attaches to the neck

Hi there! I found Camo epiphone in online market of used things in my country (Russia). The serial number of this epi starts from EE - Qingdao Chinese factory with strange year - 2003.
And the second strange thing.
The pickups of this guitar are unnamed. Without any "EMG" sigh.
The last strange thing. This guitar looks like Korean Epi. Idk if it's fake or not. Can you help me?))
And the 4th strange thing. Zack Wylde's drawing looks strange and very awkward.

There are lots of fakes of these. There were not built in China in 2003. The lack of EMG logo could be worn off from playing, but it sounds like you may have a fake there. The neck is easiest way to tell

Essex Recording Studios I have one. It's a prototype only two ever made. If your interested I can shoot you an email ....maybe a trade for a camo or buzzsaw epi? It was called the Epiphone zakk Wylde e1. If you Google it you can find an old link on musicians friend were it was gonna be sold before it was pulled from production .

I got 2 of these from guitar center under the used section one 2008 with emghz good condition I got for $400 while the other mint 2012 for $600 with case has emg active both from china
If someone has a Korean 2003 model could the serial number have began with an "I" as in the first letter of "India"?
The I letter is the first letter of the name of the Korean factory
@@EssexRecordingStudios I found that most of the sold examples started with a "U", for the Unsung, Korea factory. But there are a handful that were built at the Saein, Korea factory ("I" serial number).
The seller of the guitar I was looking at had an "I" serial number, but the font was completely different from every single sold example I could find on Reverb and eBay. It looked like as if the "6" in the number rounded down and curved into the inside of the number rather than pointing out and away and up like on all the other guitars I found with a "6" in the serial number. The rest of the serial number also had this mismatched font.
Plus his truss rod cover was coarse and not a glossy mirror-like finish.
Lastly the tuners didn't match but I gave him the benefit of the doubt that they could have been replaced.
I told him I thought it was fake. He responded by saying he bought it new in 2006 at Guitar Center and I told him that the serial number indicated that it was built in 2003, so I doubt they had a very popular guitar like that sitting on the shelf for 3 years. It also didn't explain why the font was mismatched and why the truss rod cover and the serial number font was completely different from every single other known sold example.
He sold it to some other guy who didn't know any better for a little over $500. Poor guy got scammed.

Problem is, this video will also help the fakers make their fakes more accurate.

(Plays beautifully, and the 81/85 set is actually really versatile… With the right tone cap values, EMG’s choice of 0.1uf for their passive tones is bizarre, that’s something like a 40hz low pass on a 25k pot… Useless)
I have a Chinese one with EE08 seriel...I think its a fake unfortunately :( Nothing like the two China ones you have :(
While some are fake, a lot are not. I have one but all the EE means is it was made by Epiphone in their Qingdao plant. Mine is a factory 2nd and with ALL warranty tags and information. Epiphone has confirmed that it was indeed a real one for me.
@@captaco22 just bought today with EE serial number. The head stock have long end N font. But in the back didn't have Zakk Wylde in the back. I'm still confused if I bought second hand fake or real one.
