    How did you get that lcd monitor working on your A500?

      I believe you need rgb to scart converter and then another, a scart to hdmi one.

    Can you get video out of the standard output on the Amiga and the Indivision ECS VGA output at the same time?

    Does this work with American NTSC models? I really hope so.

    • @ModernVintageGamer
      @ModernVintageGamer  10 років тому

      yes it does. The A500 in the video is a NTSC Revison 5 model

      ***** Cool, thanks for the response. If I could ask another question, What are you using to drive that newer LCD monitor, and are you able to run both NTSC and PAL games with it?

      GuitarAudiologist its called an Indivision ECS scandoubler. AmigaKit sells them

      ***** Thanks. I've been looking at Amigakit a lot, and I think the ACA500, the new ACA1233, and the Scandoubler (and possibly a catweasel?) are what I am going to get to rejuvenate this old puppy my friend just gave me. Have you tried any PAL games on yours?

    Pretty cool. I wish they would have put the thing in a case though. Pretty ugly with the board hanging out of the expansion slot. Nice to have the multiple kickstarts. Some A500 boards can be modified to make the half meg expansion actual chip memory. I did that to mine. I just had to cut a trace on the motherboard if I'm remembering correctly. But that will cause the backdoor memory to be used as chip bringing it to 1 meg chip.

    • @ModernVintageGamer
      @ModernVintageGamer  10 років тому

      yeah i totally agree. I wish someone would make a replica GVP sidecar case or something to fit it in. I've seen some real cheap looking clear cases for it that don't do it any justice.
      Interesting info about the half meg as chip ram. Do you have any more info on that? I suspect i cant on mine since i have a Revision 5 motherboard but im willing to look into it. Having only 512k of Chip in my A500 kinda sucks

      When I did mine I read a long document which was dated in the early 90's (so people were doing this hack back then). You can do it on a Revision 5, my old NTSC board was Rev5 and I did it on that. I bought a PAL board to fit in the same case (because you can't find NTSC only games on the internet) and that's a Rev6. It's been awhile but I think the Rev6 was easier but the Rev5 was not hard. At least for me. You might have to be lucky with the Agnus chip you have but mine worked.
      When I typed in amiga 500 1mb chip ram rev 5 in google I got a bunch of postings in forms and old lha files with instructions to do it. If you're handy with a soldering iron you could also solder another half meg onto the board itself because there's room for it. So you could have 1.5 megs of chip ram. I think you can also put the A600 Agnus in there and get 2 megs but I haven't tried either of those, just the backdoor jumpers/trace hack.

      awesome info. yeah ill look into doing this for sure. i see some Megachips on ebay occassionally but people want stupid money for them. Mind you i own an A600, A1200 and A4000 also, but i have a soft spot for my A500 :)

    • @Shot97
      @Shot97 10 років тому

      Ditto on that. Gotta love the one that was able to make it to the masses. I only have the 500 (same one I had as a kid) but I did play around in emulation for a long time and messed with the AGA stuff in that. The only other one I wouldn't mind having is the 1000 because it's got a nice look and it's the original and has those cool signatures inside. The later Amiga's are cool but they're kind of depressing because of what they weren't if ya know what I mean... AGA, too little too late... But it's like the C64. Is the C128 pretty cool? Yup. Almost 100% compatibility, its got its own features... Wouldn't mind having it... But in the end you can't beat the look of the breadbox and like 5 games took advantage of the 128... Similar with the 500, everything was made for that and that's what you think of when you think Amiga. Gotta love the 500.

      Shot97 hey man, just an update. I did the 1Meg CHIP RAM hack tonight and it worked a treat. Thanks again! the only minor issue is now my Amiga defaults to NTSC mode instead of PAL but i think you can just lift a pin on the Agnus socket to default it to PAL.

    Could the OS somehow be upgraded to OS 3.9 or 3.5?

    • @bufftankington7349
      @bufftankington7349 10 років тому

      The Aca500 has built-in 3.1 Kickstarts, and I've seen videos of a guy running classicwb 3.9 with the aca500 so you can run 3.9 on it

      how do you flash it?

    • @bufftankington7349
      @bufftankington7349 10 років тому

      I don't know, I just saw a clip here on youtube and I asked the uploader if it had 3.1.
      I don't know about flashing it, I think you just select 3.1 kicks in the menu

    will i need 3.1 rom on amiga 500. if that accelerator card has?

  • @104d_3rr0r_vince
    @104d_3rr0r_vince 11 років тому

    If you have 3.1 rom chip can you avoid the maprom function of this aca? I have 2mb chip but I need more fast ram :-\

    • @ModernVintageGamer
      @ModernVintageGamer  11 років тому

      i haven't tried. my A500 mobo doesn't have a kickstart chip. it just uses the onboard ROM on the ACA500

    • @104d_3rr0r_vince
      @104d_3rr0r_vince 11 років тому

      Mine too. I have a 3.1 from my A600 and I will test it. I don't think that it will work. Maybe aca's rom has drivers for both cf slots :-\

    • @104d_3rr0r_vince
      @104d_3rr0r_vince 11 років тому

      ***** A600's 3.1 rom worked on my A500+. with no maprom I gained 1.7 fast from 1.1 (before) in expense of wb scrolling speed as expected and 1.49 from 1.51 in sysinfo. ;-)
      2mb free chip ram is awesome!
