My Dad and I, and brother played music together all the time… we actually never played this one, but played When They Ring Those Golden Bells, a lot… that sadly doesn’t happen anymore as Dads 93 and in nursing care, and I’d love to be able to play with him again.

Steven Hicken Jr Pedal Steel Guitar Thanks Steven... the trick is to record wet 😉 I know it’s not the way the professionals do it, but a professional told me once to get the sound in the room the way you like it, and record that... so I usually don’t tweak much in post... been putting a CLA 2LA compressor on the steel and an API 550 on the track and then on the Master I put a Greg Wells MixCentic that Travis told me about and also uses that seems to add a little sheen to it... I have, but don’t usually add reverb when mixing

I just got the accordion bug and this was the first song that came to mind to learn and upload. It's such a classic. To imagine it was written before the declaration of independence blows my mind. Anyways, I got my first taste of steel guitar appreciation when I bumped into some of Bob Wills' musicians back in the 70's. You give the instrument all the love and respect it could possibly have. Thanks for sharing with us!
Thanks so much Mark ... Accordion was my first instrument with the first song I learned to play being the old Hymn, "I Surrender All"... that was a lifetime ago in the early 60's ... In the early 70's I traded that Accordion to help me get my first Pedal Steel. A few years ago when my Father-in-Law became aware that I once played the Accordion, he just happened to have one handy (LOL) and hauled it out for me to strap on and play.

Thank you Mark, welcome and glad you’re here… yes Pedal Steel is a pretty special instrument and to think it only arrived on this planet a few short years before I did and what an impact it’s had on Country music in particular but also pop and rock, Gospel and Jazz. In the right hands Pedal Steel is a very versatile instrument. The mechanics alone fascinate me how they’re able to accomplish all that they do.
Glad you liked it David ... Steel Guitar, or Pedal Steel Guitar which is what I'm playing here, is arguably one of the more difficult instruments to play, but you're never too old to start. Today there are teachers on every corner, unlike in the early 70's when I started. Good luck should you decide to give it a try, and you CAN do it.
@@Driftwood2211 If you know anything about Music... (Keys, Chords, Intervals & etc), you're ahead of the game. Learning fills, runs, licks, intros & turnarounds are all tabbed out, putting them in your song, in the right Key is the Trick... by ear, I might add...
