  • The Plate Notation for Directed Graphical Models helps in simplifying the model when random variables have higher dimensionality. Here you can find the notes: raw.githubusercontent.com/Cey...
In this video, we look at the plate notation, which is a handy way to simplify directed graphical models with multiple random variables of the same kind. The notation is fairly simple and is probably best explained by the examples I give in this video.
Exercise pointer: You could unclutter the plate notation for the Latent-Dirichlet Allocation (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latent_...)

Awesome stuff! All the four examples were well chosen, these cleared my doubts regarding plate notations. Thanks a ton! ❤

Thanks for the video - very well explained. Look forward to watching more. My interest is using plate notation for data models ie the Plate Variables are themselves a set of properties with values and the arrows represent some sort of relationship ie primary key or foreign key

      Glad it was helpful!
That sounds like a good application. Plate Notation is really diverse and allows for many things.

Absolutely fantastic.. Thanks a lot for this. Can you help to explain if in the 3rd example, z (outside the plates) goes to x (k,l)? How to interpret this?

Hey, thanks a lot for your feedback :)
Do you mean that the Z then also has indices (k,l)? In this case, I created some additional material: github.com/Ceyron/numeric-notes/files/6164665/plate_notation_additional_material.pdf
Let me know if sth is still unclear. :)

@@MachineLearningSimulation any email id i can reach out to you? I want to send an image and want to understand how to interpret the plate diagram please.

Could you upload it to imgur, pasteboard or sth else and post the link? I think it would be nice to have your problem here as a reference in case someone else has a similar question.
