The demand for cost-efficient, seamless global connectivity for IoT devices has been constant. However, the methods to achieve it are evolving.
One advancement is the introduction of the GSMA SGP.32 specification, the latest remote SIM provisioning standard. It provides customers with flexible, future-proof connectivity options and enables mobile network operators (MNOs) with resilient, global coverage. SGP.32 simplifies the connectivity process and enhances the user experience.
The interview also explores IoT connectivity cybersecurity risks. Platforms like remote SIM provisioning increase the IoT device attack surface and introduce other cyberthreats. Moreover, regulations vary across countries, posing privacy risks as some regulations mandate sharing data with authorities.
Adopting a security by design approach to connectivity will help overcome these obstacles. Selecting a connectivity provider with a robust cybersecurity infrastructure is critical. This provider should also comply with confidentiality and availability standards. In addition, you must consider the data sharing laws of the provider’s country to ensure privacy.
