This is my first 2.4 timing chain job also and I’m talking about man you nailed it with lining of those marks cause I couldn’t find one either and I was so scared to put it back together because of course with the variable valve timing if you miss this timing up you can mess the whole motor I just wanna let you know man you’re awesome man I really appreciate it I love your videos man who cares if You stumbled around you know what you’re talking about And you killed your first video 100%

Did the customer drive it in? The reason for asking is that my 2011 lacrosse over heated, drove it to the shop after being on the interstate for 2hrs. The shop said the the timing chain was broken. I doubt I can drive let alone start the car with either of the two chains being broke. Not a mechanic but I need help.
Thanks. I bought Cloyes 9-4202S Balance Shaft Kit but the chain is slight different with only one yellow mark :) I took them off using a channel lock to hold the old sprocket. After all stuff installed, then I can torque these 2 bolts, right? How much torque is required for these 2 bolts? I cannot find it.
yes you should replace the sprockets with the chain and guides. after you have all of your new stuff onincluding the tensioners it will stay in place when you torque it.
I would've replaced the water pump as well. Just so that in case water pump decides to take a crap in the near future, you are bound to repeat the same process all over. Good job on explaining though.

This design is complete garbage. Ford 3.5, 3.5, EcoBoost, and 3.7 transversely mounted V6 had the same stupid design. The Chrysler 2.7 also had the same stupid design. I’m surprised that GM didn’t get sued over the Ecotec 2.0, 2.2, and 2.4 engines due to timing chain driven water pumps yet. I wonder why. All GM really cares about these days is profit. GM used to make great cars. The only good GM products these days are it’s sports cars with the V8 engines and full size trucks and SUVs.

Enrique Carmona there is a holding tool you use to hold gear for water pump removal without even haveing to remove the timing cover
you can use a 3/8 impact or use a pair of channel locks to hold it with a wrench or socket because your going to replace it anyway

The chain from the package I bought only has one yellow mark and two blue marks on the chain, is it normal? I saw yours has two yellow marks.

there should be 2 chains. one main cam chain and one for the water pump. but brands may vary on the color you will see on the chains.
I have noise after water pump changed .the told me need to reset the balance shaft chain tensioner .what this is mean ? Is this hard work ?

yes but only the water pump chain broke on this one. if it wouldve been the main chain it wouldve bent valves

These engines are just awful. Premature ring wear at every torn.
