Zipporah was Moses ONLY wife till she died, being the "Cushite wife" mentioned at Numbers 12, that Miriam and Aaron took exception to.(Num 12:1, 2) Many feel that when it says "Cushite" wife (Hebrew Kuwshiy, H3569, "a Cushite, or descendant of Cush", found 26 times in the Bible) at Number 12:1, that Moses had acquired another wife from Ethiopia, since the Hebrew word "Kuwsh", or "Kush" or "Cush", is seen as meaning Ethiopia, as at Ezekiel 29:10 and is found in the Hebrew Scriptures 30 times, starting at Genesis 2:13. But the Hebrew word "Kuwsh" also means "the land of Midian", in which Midianite priest Jethro gave Moses one of his seven daughters, named Zipporah, who bore to Moses two sons, Gershom and Eliezer.(Ex 2:16-22; 18:1-4) At Habakkuk 3:7, it "connects the dots" and shows that "the land of Midian" as also called "Cushan" (Hebrew Kuwshan, meaning "Cushan, a region of Arabia"), whereby it reads: "I saw trouble in the tents of Cuʹshan. The tent cloths of the land of Midʹi·an trembled." The "land of Midian" is now the northwestern corner of Saudi Arabia, to the right of the Gulf of Aqaba. So, Moses did NOT have two wives, but just one, Zipporah, that he acquired in "the land of Midian" or "Cushan", and Zipporah is mentioned in Exodus three times by name, at Exodus 2:21; 4:25; 18:2. So, Moses did NOT have two wives, as some claim, but just Zipporah. And it need be added, that a sincere Bible reader MUST do as the Beroeans did with regard to the apostle Paul's words when he spoke in a synagogue in Beroea, with Acts 17:10, 11 stating: "Immediately by night the brothers sent both Paul and Silas to Be·roeʹa. On arriving, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thes·sa·lo·niʹca, for they accepted the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, CAREFULLY examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so". By accepting what religious websites says, that Moses had two wives, then a person is still believing lies, and it was a lie in the garden of Eden that brought on sin that leads to sickness and death.(Gen 3:1-6; John 8:44; Rom 5:12) So, a person must find ACCURATE information on the Bible or else stay in "darkness" (see Isa 60:2a), doing as Paul wrote at Roman 12:1, 2: "Therefore, I appeal to you by the compassions of God, brothers, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, a sacred service with your power of REASON. And stop being molded by this system of things, but be transformed by making your mind over, so that you may PROVE to yourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God."(Rom 12:1, 2, New World Translation) Proverbs 14:15 makes it succinctly clear: "The naive person believes every word" ("its on UA-cam religious channel, so it must be true"), "but the shrewd one ponders each step", ("I better check this out carefully before accepting even one word"). In other words, "do your homework", and don't be gullible.
The number of wives that Moses had is as irrelevant as how many daughters he had. It's clear that your motivation is to try to insert the man-made doctrine of monogamy into the scripture. This is very dangerous for your soul.
@@amyqb117 Try it in the original Hebrew when you do the same. Sure, there has been a question as to how many wives Moses had, but the number is irrelevant to those whose only wish is to follow The Way of God. The story of Moses is not the story of some guy whose greatest accomplishment was that he had one wife and, oh by the way, he led some random strangers from one place to another for some unknown reason. By analogy, there is no biblical documentation as to how many fingers Moses had. Was it 10, or was it 12? My point is, in both cases, it simply doesnt matter to someone if they aren't trying to insert their own personal preferences and beliefs into God's word. There are even sects that believe the 10 commandments are no longer applicable to Gods people. I find it astonishing how much people will twist up The Word as well as themselves, just to get their own preferred outcome. If we truly open our hearts and minds to God, we find that his desires for us are much different than our own carnal worldly desires for ourselves. Jews will freely tell you that a rabbi declared polygamy to be bad around 1000 AD. Christians have a similar story around the same timeframe, except their leader that did the same called himself Pope. These same men presided over the slaughter of millions of innocents. I'm not taking their word for it. No way. Jesus came, in part, because Gods people had contorted The Law into an abomination unto God. P.S. There has been some confusion concerning the particular word used here, first, or only, wife. It stems partially from which origin document one uses, the greek septuagint or the hebrew torah. Both are supposed to be identical, in a perfect world. And besides all if this, who can deny that if a man has one wife for his entire life, is she not his FIRST wife? There is no reason to argue, unless some new dogma is at play.

Your interpretation of Exodus 4:21-26 is wrong and hence your surprise. Midianites like all the other nations don't circumcise so naturally Zipporah didn't want her firstborn to be circumcised. Moses congenially agreed with her. God is strict. God said no. God's children are distinguished from all others because unlike all the other nations only they, the children of Israel, are circumcised. God told Moses that He plans to slay the firstborn of everyone in Egypt who is not circumcised and He will start at this moment with Gershom in order not to be a hypocrite. God was angry with Moses for he had adopted Midianite culture from his wife and it was wrong. That's why God told Moses that He will slay Gershom. Zipporah did not see or meet God or know Him. Zipporah was angry with her husband and yelled at her meek husband for being so bloodthirsty wanting to cut off his son's foreskin but anyway she had to comply and she did it reluctantly herself and then in anger she threw the skin and blood at bashful Moses. How could it possibly be that Moses will command Pharaoh to let God's circumcised children go or else all Egypt's firstborn sons will die and then Pharaoh's uncircumcised son dies and Moses uncircumcised son also dies? That would be embarrassing for God and for Moses.
Everyone paints Moses as this perfect paragon of virtue. But, he wasn't perfect. Like many people of his time, he was racist. He didn't view his own sons as Israelites, but as strangers. Heck, that's even reflected in his eldest son's name. Consequently, he viewed his wife as a stranger to his people too. This is what irked God to the point of threatening his life, because, as the leader of the chosen people of God, he denied his own family the right to enter the covenant. There was an episode later on where Moses' sister and brother whispered in the back of Zipporah because she was a Midianite leading the worship and Moses' sister was briefly struck with leprosy as punishment. We're all the children of God, yet we always form cliques that exclude people. Moses and his family were not exempt of this behavior, but their example serves to highlight that this really doesn't sit well with God.
