Sakka Ten Autumn Bonsai show 2018

Sakka Ten event at the Espai D'Oci in Alcalà De Xivert. The heart of the event, typical autumn settings with Bonsai, Shohin, Suiseki and Kusamono.
Masters Tomio Yamada and Minoru Akiyama, who came from Japan, held workshops, conferences and bonsai demonstrations, together with members of NBSKE and professor Aldo Tollini.

can someone enlighten me as to why the trees are placed on a board rather than flat for pruning, etc?

manxlucky, trees are placed on a slanted board when styled for the first time (or restyled) because that will be their final orientation once they are repotted.
Established trees get pruned “flat”.

Amazing inspirational trees but I don't get the showing of rocks, whats the story there?

it's called suiseki, the japanese art of stone appreciation. The stones often resemble a natural landscape, animals, or other things. They are often used as an accent to the trees to further tell the story of a tree by describing it's natural landscape, but are also shone on their own.
