  • Hello my princesses! Today we are unpacking what it means to have Disney Princess ENERGY! Now, I don't view myself as anything remotely similar to a Disney Princess, but I think that it's useful to discuss this topic and maybe see how we can learn from the inspiration of these iconic princesses. They are so much more than their flowing hair and crazy stories, so let's dive in!

I think Disney princesses show that being girly and being feminine are two very different things. They're not afraid to get their hands dirty and they have integrity. Cinderella is a great example of that.

I was once asked how I maintain a Disney princess demeanor after heavy trauma and my answer has stuck with me - I am soft because the softest hands have held the most grit. If life abrasions tear into you, keep moving. Lean into it and you'll take away all the hard edges.

Condemning Cinderella for not saving herself is a way of oppressing victims of abuse and neglect. She maintained her dignity and strength even when there was nothing she could do against her step family, proving that sometimes no matter what you do you can't make everyone treat you well.

One of the first things my now husband said when we were dating was he LOVED how soft and feminine I was; that I could take care of myself and was strong but allowed him to do things for me! You can be strong in some areas and still be feminine and womanly!

From a MASSIVE classic disney princess fan. THANK YOU. I feel I constantly have to defend my love for classic princesses like Cinderella or Snow White in our modern feminist world. They are shining examples of what it is to be a truly feminine woman (as are you). I only wish I could go back and tell my younger self what I know now. So happy I am comfortable in my femininity and proudly married to a wonderful masculine husband. We both enjoy your content so much. Thank you for all the work you do. Keep spreading the message! ❤️

Something Jordan Peterson points out: the stories of men rescuing women are metaphors for inner journeys. For example, sleeping beauty being "rescued" by the prince is a metaphor for the unconscious feminine being awoken by the concious masculine. The prince is also rescued from the dungeons by the conscious feminine in the form of the good fairies. This happens in a healthy marriage between a man and a woman, but it also happens on a smaller scale inside of every individual, no matter your gender. It's true the male roles do appear more active on the outside, but that's just because the stories are old: back in the day women were either pregnant and breastfeeding or waiting to be so. So their adventures were much more found in the trials of birthing and raising babies, rather than roaming around on horseback. Everyone knows that inner journeys are no less harrowing and important!

I can’t help but cheer when a strong girl who defies expectations wins in the end. But I totally agree that it doesn’t always have to be the “cool tomboys” that are praised for their strength. Cinderella was a hustler, as was Tiana. Rapunzel denied laziness for self-improvement and studies, as did the extremely confident Belle and the curious Ariel. Feminine women like Grace Kelly’s character in High Noon and Elle Woods are other perfect examples of women who don’t lead with masculine characteristics and instead embrace their femininity, then go on to take control of their destiny on their own terms. 👑🌹

I grew up in a household that was very hateful towards women and any type of femininity. I was taught that being a “princess” was pathetic. Being a wife was pathetic. Being a woman was pathetic.
I am so grateful for you and your channel, for teaching me how to embrace my feminine power, my gift of womanhood.
This is really teaching me how to love and appreciate myself as a daughter and a sort of proverbial ‘princess’ of the kingdom of God.

I always thought of Merida (one of my fave princesses) as a young girl going into womanhood who is fighting her feminine energy. She is struggling with massive life changes, and often tries to deal with them purely with masculine energy. But by the end of the story she realizes the power of being a women, a daughter and a mother and comes to appreciate that gorgeous energy that her mamma has as Queen♥️ She begins to learn how to handle things with grace and poise. 💕

Why does a woman who isn’t nurturing or poised have to be struggling? This branch of the femininity movement (or maybe it’s the whole movement) comes off not as a lifestyle choice but as something you feel women SHOULD be doing. Let them be their best selves instead. That doesn’t merely project an image of sweetness, but is the truly kind and nurturing action.

@@bubbledreams6382 Poise doesn't just mean posture. It means dealing with tricky situations with careful thought, levelheadedness, and confidence. She is a Christian, so she does use heavy religious comparisons which is great for those who are religious. Even for those like me who aren’t, it’s still a wonderful read! She points out our strengths and weaknesses and how we shouldn’t resent being a feminine women! Changed my life ♥️💕❤️💕

It's so great to see a young woman (I'm nearly 40 okay LOL I'm not precisely a young woman anymore) to be so mature, well spoken and most importantly understand the distinction of being a woman, being a little girl and how being feminine in itself is a GREAT strength. Women are so strong in their femininity and its the perfect counterpart for the masculine energy of men, who often need rough edges softened by a good woman or you know, just a little bit more attention to detail lol! I loved the part where you said that finding your partner in life is a blessing. It has been for mine, and nothing is more fulfilling to me now, that my role as wife and mother. This is probably my favorite video you've made. I idealized Belle from a very young age, and only now as an adult realized that was because I saw a reflection myself and the qualities I desire to have in her character. Belle is unconditionally kind, empathetic, and has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. She's selfless and family oriented and desires to fully understand even the things that frighten her (like beast). She's always authentically herself and gives compassion to the underdogs and the demonized who rarely receive it.
Regarding this belief that women don't need help from men and should avoid asking for help, this belief which has been developing for a few decades now, I have to say that I understand such a sentiment. But that is because historically men that aren't your relatives or husband offering you help want something in return e.g. sexual "favors". This has been my personal experience, whether it be help from a classmate in tutoring me in statistics (I have a learning disability that affects my ability to perceive numerical relations so I am constantly requiring help for my math classes) or going on a date, where I am willing to pay for my half of the bill, and them insisting they pay, only to shame me for refusing to have sex with them afterward. But women just refusing all help from men isn't going to fix this issue, we should be strong women that know our worth and reject this behavior from men.
I am a feminist but I disagree with the current raunch culture that encourages women to use their bodies to get that they want from men, just because we can or because we're trying to "stick it to the man". Such a culture doesn't lead to true equality where men and women can help each other in a genuine and personable fashion as human beings, it just just leads to people being used for anothers benefit, whether it be men using women for their bodies or women using men for their status.
Rant over, now I am going to make some dinner and watch beauty and the beast again

I need to find the lecture I was listening to but here in breath what I remember. This is based on the original fairytales not the Disney version.
Belle - Usually women who like Belle as a character has a cold father so they’ll usually go for a strong masculine man “cold” type that is more logical and not so romantic. (I’m in the Belle category lol )
The little mermaid. Absent mother, she will pick a man who won’t love her back (in the original by Andersen he left her for another woman) and will scarify something about him.
Cinderella / Snow White (same category) Both have Absent mother. Weak father. Evil step step mother. Suffering. They are waiting for someone to save them. (It’s great a man to support you I welcome it but they are passive victims in the original fairytales).
Jazmin - You chose bad boys that are a little more edgy.
Rapinzel (Tangled) strong relationship with the mother she may be a little more controlling she’s looking for someone to help her “run away” from a situation she doesn’t want to be in.
Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty: What’s common about them is that they have missing mother or father figures or both. They are all victims SW to her step mother. LRH to the wolf. Cinderella to her step mother. The sleeping beauty to the witch. They hustle and struggle because they are forced to. Their mentality is I will struggle I will hustle I will be saved by someone because I put the effort.
That’s all I remember. Usually the fairytales program our subconscious mind if you don’t like what you’ve read you can always re-write the fairytale also if I miss any of the fairytales I’m sorry I’m not familiar with all of them. I hope it’s was helpful. ❤️

I like that you pointed out the Princes helped those Princesses with all their problems eventho he could have picked other women with less problems. This confirms the right man will do anything to be with you.

first time here! I've always been very feminine, innocent, vulnerable. But I've often been made fun off for even by close friends family. I've always been told to be more stong, independent, cry less. But fater many years I've learned to appreciate myslef. It's something beautiful I love.

My ultimate feminine icon is Elle Woods. That film was so ahead of its time, even for the 2000s. It takes down so many stereotypes and calls out common hypocrisy. And it’s funny!

Pocahontas is my favorite princess! She was strong, interdependent, and feminine in her own unique way. She didn't change her beliefs and what she wanted out of life. I just love her story! You spoke on this topic so well Cait ❤❤

Very insightful take on Disney princesses! So many people give a surface level analysis and say the princesses are weak women "waiting around" to be "saved." Not the case!!

Also, in reference to Cinderella, has anyone ever noticed that in the original 1950 animated film, the prince wasn’t even present for Cinderella’s escape? Cinderella saw an opportunity to save herself, so she took it. THAT is strength!

Mrs. Midwest, you express your sentiments so eloquently and intelligently. In the small town which I live, I'm a bit of a social outcast. I dress super femininely and am bubbly and cheerful nonstop. Some of the women here have accused me of being flirtatious or wanton, but I've already found my 'prince' and we're engaged. Thank you so much for your defense of all things feminine. What would we be without that soft, serene energy in our world?

What a wonderful topic. Cate, you don’t know how blessed I am to have found you. My brother and I both grew up in Christian homes and the past few years have dealt with peer pressure and eventually totally changed who we were. Which never felt right to us. I made a commitment to myself and God this year that I would return to church and return to my true self even if that meant returning to being an outcast. Talk about perfect timing 💕❤️

Love this way of thinking about princesses. I'm old enough to be your mom plus, but still love the princesses. As I went through difficult times in life and happened to be watching a Disney movie, I noticed how they were handling difficulties although not quite realistic for our lives, but still difficult and they remained calm, caring, and nurturing. I always admired that and I thank you for this video and point of view.

True femininity is a form of artful beauty, mesmerising and hypnotising.
That's where a woman's power lies and not by competing with men in masculinity.

Women can do both actually, masculinity is an energy that is accessible to both men and women and being traditional in your disposition based on biological sex isn’t fundamentally necessary

I disagree because I think people are most powerful when they are their true self, no matter what mix of feminine and masculine traits. What I get from this channel is helping women to be true to themselves in this certain way. Being princess-like isn’t always the best every woman can be necessarily

I think it's a spectrum, but like Caitlin said all women are feminine in some regard and that's important to acknowledge no matter how masculine you are.

Speaking from personal experience, not letting terrible things break you down and make you something you’re not is HARD. When I found out about my parents’ divorce and how bad of a man my father is, all I wanted to do was hunker down and avoid all men because I honestly thought that all men would manipulate me and treat me like a tool for their own amusement, and there were no good men. I couldn’t help but think things like “marriage is a sham!” and “well, you’re just going to get divorced anyway, so why bother trying?” But that’s not supportive of my goal of being a wife and mother someday. Instead of doing that, I decided to look at my dad as an example of what I don’t want in a husband and look at my grandfather as an example of what I DO want in a husband. But it is VERY HARD. I slip up and shift back into that previous way of thinking all men are bad. I have bouts of sadness where I believe I’ll never find someone and any man I do find will treat me the way my dad treated my mother and me. Its difficult, but I’m getting through it. And watching videos like this helps me. It helps me stay in the positive mindset, especially hearing everyone’s successful marriage stories in the comments. Whomever writes those, please keep doing that because it gives hope to those of us who struggle with trying to find out Prince.
