Brain of confusion is honestly a really great item. It's just in expert mode with all the mobs that don't get effected by confusion makes it have a weak side Edit: if forgot about the chance to doge an attack so it's all about who the player is and how well they can handle mobs and bosses attacks
True, you dont have to rely on chances, while worm scarf's dmg reduc is consistent. IMO Brain of Confusion is only good when fighting EoLD as to dodge attacks.
I'm surprised that you didn't mention the synergy between Brain of Confusion and Hallowed Armour's set bonus. As the Brain of Confusion has priority over the set bonus, it means that there is a 17% chance that the set bonus will remain after taking damage. This means that if the Holy Protection buff is active and you take damage twice, there is actually around a 31.1% chance to dodge both attacks rather than the 17% chance that you would expect.
if black belt(or master ninja gear) added the dodge chance further increase to 43.75%(a lot) as black belt goes first than the brain than the hallowed armour. this makes hallowed armour vialble through the whole game.
But this will only occur when the second hit is at least 4 seconds away from the first. This is due to the Cerebal Mindtrick debuff (10% more crit chance) which you get after you take a hit and you dodge it with the brain. This debuff stops the ability to dodge with the brain confusion for 4 seconds.
Honestly I never really use ether of them since there are accessories that I'd consider way more worth of an accessory slot in mid to late game. Unless I'm fighting stuff like EoL/daytime EoL

@@fyreisboss767 that is absolutely true, however, if you play at any difficulty lower than FTW + master mode (say master mode only/FTW expert mode), a full heavily defense focused melee setup with minimum necessary mobility accessories like wings and master ninja gear plus some stable defense boost like potion / statue can actually negate almost every minor attack you received to just 1 or something around 10(and that setup has more than shields in the accessories slot, i even manage to put a warrior’s emblem), some exclusions like head of destroyer, moon lord's laser beam, skeletron's head when he is spinning, all of which is something you normally be paying most attention to, the worm scarf is really a crucial component , without it all the rapid hitting small attacks that are much easier to connect with you would hit 20 even 30 times harder at most, making the fight still duable, but way tooooo stressful for someone just trying to relax with just a bit of challenge on one of their favorite game.(admittedly , some accessories that significantly boost defense after hardmode exist only in crimson, making the whole "crimson or corruption" argument not so valid, but the defense focused set works with every melee class armor, is NOT luck based, and performs better when you are not fighting bosses) but for FTW master mode or any other classes, (outside from specter hood lovers, if you give up damage and invest in regeneration then it is a good idea to keep invest in sustainability , or just grind the mask if you clicked on the wrong head gear) brain of confusion is the go to option, if you can’t tank the damage might as well just invest in more mobility or damage.
I think that as you choose higher difficulties, the brain of confusion is more viable than the worm scarf. There's no point in reducing 17% of damage from a boss that can 2 shot you
On its own it’s bad but with the right load out it’s extremely effective when you have 72% damage resistance (Beetle armor and endurance potion) and over 100 defense, you will be able tank quite a bit of hits before dying.
I 100% depends on the character you’re building. Even on master mode, I was just face tanking a lot of bosses with melee and molten armor, which can be acquired as soon as you beat evil biome boss. It’s a notable difference once you start stacking potions
that is very true, master for the worthy has literally no point in using the scarf (damage reduction applies after defense with WS, while damage reduction applies BEFORE defense with BoC + 16% dodge rate)
More damage = More reduction. If you do 100 - 17% you get 83 but if you do 200 - 17% you get 166, it saves a lot of cases (especially when you have higher defense and more DR together with the worm scarf)
Honestly the creepers are the hardest part of the fight. The final stage can also be tough but it’s just a matter of reaction speed. I played ranger during master mode I have no idea how a melee could kill the brain
I always play crimson and rarely get the work scarf anyways, so I’m team brain. After hours and hours of practice, I rarely get hit at all, so having those few and in between heavy hits be totally avoided is much better than them hitting slightly less. Also confusion getting enemies off my back has saved my life more times than I can count.
I think this is going to make me switch from always playing corruption to playing crimson, this has been some useful information. Keep up the good content! :)
@@ThatGuyRNA I've always personally thought corruption just looked ugly. The dull greyish purple is really bland looking compared to a deep blood red. Though I won't deny the corruption soundtrack is far better than the crimson which sounds more like spastic slapstick sound effects. But crimson also stands out more making it easier to clean an area as it's incredibly obvious.
Also, keep in mind that the Brain of Confusion reduces damage before defense is applied (bigger number), while the worm scarf reduces damage after defense is applied (smaller number). Thus, even if they have the same percentage damage reduction, the brain ends up reducing more damage (as long as you don't get hit during its cooldown) EDIT: nevermind I think I'm totally wrong
The Brain of Confusion doesn't reduce damage at all. It avoids damage entirely. Of COURSE it's going to reduce more damage, it's literally avoiding 100% of it.
pretty sure you're wrong there, as the mimic did 143 damage versus 103, which doesn't add up unless the damage reduction applies before the defense does. On second thought, we'd need a larger sample size because of variance between individual hits.
@@donovanmahan2901 damage reduction is counted after defense, the 143 to 103 was mostly from damage randomization(a enemy does somewhere between 0.85x and 1.15x it's damage on hit).
Omg, I never realized until now. The quad barreled shotgun is a nod to the Phantasm movie series, just like the enemy called Deadly Sphere. So cool that a somewhat sleeper 80s horror series is alluded to in game. Those movies gave me serious nightmares as a kid in the 90s.
I always preferred crimson even before the brain buff thanks to the mostly superior loot and imo better terrain thanks to the holes only being every once in a while and going down is way safer since you're way less likely to accidentally fall to your death in the early game
In my last playthrough, I gave myself the trouble to created an artificial crimson biome in the surface, farmed vicious mushrooms and vertebras just to spawn BoC in my corruption world so I could get the Brain. One of the best accessories in the game smh
I remember hearing about the Brain of Confusion buffs in 1.4, and on my first 1.4 run when it came out, me and all my friends kept it on up until the Moon Lord. Paired with the Master Ninja Gear, it carried us all so damn badly.
@@Wolf-fighter I've played over 900 hours of terraira and 500 hours of tmodloader. I use the brain of confusion eveytime because I only play master mode and it always worked on bosses. I just read the wiki and it said nothing on it. Your actually retarded. You check the wiki before arguing
i always picked corruption for the worm scarf, but this video definitely changed my mind. i’m actually excited to try the accessory load out you mentioned with the vampire knives and other fun melee weapons. thanks for changing my mind :)
at least finally, someone is speaking the praise of the brain everybody wrote it off since 1.3 and it's lackluster ability, but now it's super good. So good in fact, that the next dodge ability is in Hardmode AFTER the mechs are defeated. And then after that, it's Post Plantera Dungeon with the Black belt I have no clue why people dont use it more often now, especially in tandem with Master Ninja Gear, Hallow Armor, and a Cross Necklace. It's so good and it's a shame people still think it's rubbish.
come on stop it literally everyone praises and uses it. If you still think people dont know how good it is you probably didnt spend enough time in the fandom
I use neither the Brain of Confusion nor the Worm Scarf as I don't feel the need for them as I dodge most of the time. I especially prefer the master ninja gear over the Brain because enemies getting confused and running away when trying to farm is annoying asf

Honestly like that 10% crit chance and 10% summon damage boost from the Brain after getting hit really does make it feel like a top teir accessory for even DPS themed players while providing that little defensive backbone that you might have been lacking
Imo what I see is both complement their demonic armor. Shadow armor is damage, the scarf help to tank more. Crimson armor is defensive armor thx to the increased regen. The brain help to occasionally spare a hit and let the regen kick more.
1:51 they made it a post skeletron weapon and nerfed it lmao. The closest weapon to it in this stage is boomstick I think I prefer worm scarf's higher reliability ( guaranteed 17% dmg reduction ) but there are situation where brain is better
I mean brain of confusion is way better against overkill attacks like Daytime EoL but worm scarf is better for almost one shot like 400 dmg or stuff like that
A good amount of negative stigma around the Brain likely revolves around how it launched in 1.3 where it only has the confusion debuff, making it absolutely useless since about 70% of all enemies are immune to the debuff, including all bosses
@loleklolwaszje No, but the brain actually also gives 10% summon damage because they can't crit (which also means it's twice as powerful for mixed summoner builds)
Dont forget that one edge the brain has: just being really damn lucky. Also that you can reduce the damage all you want but if an attack kills in one hit (moon lord lazer or day EoL), it doesnt matter, but dodging an attack still works.
Moon lord's phantasmal deathray doesn't one shot, it just deals a ton of damage (150/300/450 in normal/expert/master). With a defensive melee setup you can survive it. Not for daytime eol tho where it literally one shots you
I accidentally discovered how cool the brain is when I created the wrong accessory in calamity. I was always using the scarf before, but the brain is also so cool, especially if you're not melee
Brain of confusion is one of those items that becomes reliable with with synergies But in prehardmode worm scarf becomes a better option since it's one of the first good equipments you get in prehardmode that is already really useful alone And there are many times that for example an enemy does just enough damage to one shot you, the brain has a 1 in 6 chance to save you, while the worm WILL save you
Yeah, but the brain can save even a brand new character against the Moon Lord's death ray, whereas the scarf can't. And most of the time an enemy will do more than enough damage to one-hit kill you, especially in hard mode. Brain is definitely better in my eyes, since that 1/6 chance could be enough to win a boss fight. Say you're fighting the Moon lord, and can't get out of the way of the death ray. Worm scarf wouldn't do too much, but the brain has a chance to completely win that fight for you, as long as you can dodge other attacks. And the brain's invincibility frames could be just enough to get you that heal you might need so you can heal up and not die. But they're both great!
Ya know what, y'all right, in times and fights when 1 attack does a lot more than you can chew, brain atleast has a chance to save you, the worm alone can't do s**t in this situation But still, both moonlord and eol are end game and near endgame bosses and i did say brain of confusion is more useful with synergies , so basically endgame since the ninja gear(it's been a couple of months since i played so I'm not sure) is obtainable after plantera But at the end of it all, you can get the other evil seeds from the dryad so if you're going for a tank build you could have both of them
I'm so glad they changed this. Worm scarf was soooo powerful in 1.3 that picking crimson in expert mode meant you were either really confident in your skill or really new. I've always found the crimson vastly more fun and more interesting then the corruption but picked corruption cause having the worm scarf was so valuable. glad it is more of a fair game rather then the best accessory in the game vs the worst like 1.3
@@ethe2nd662 Nah, you're mostly correct. Though, that's not saying the corruption didn't have good items. I think the dart rifle from the corruption is superior than the dart pistol, and while yeah ichor darts are great I definitely prefer cursed darts for crowd control and the destroyer, which is probably a boss you'd fight at that time. The golden shower is definitely better than the cursed flame book, though. And in single player the putrid scent sucks, but the flesh knuckles are pretty good for that extra defense compared to doing nothing at all unless you're playing with friends.
It sort of comes down to the situation, for situations where you might only take a hit every once and a while (i.e fighting mimics), the worm scarf is superior due to it's guaranteed damage reduction. However, in most cases where you may be fighting a group of enemies (or even a boss) the chance of invulnerability outweighs guaranteed damage reduction.
The problem i have with it is the refresh timer after dodging, It won't activate while it's buff is active which can cause a lot of problems. Worm scarf is reliable and it's visible. What people seem to forget is to just equip both, it's down right op most situations.
Fun fact : When you're using hallowed armor and your brain of confusion activates, it actually saves your holy protection buff. Which makes it good for "dodging" classes like mage, summoner, and sometimes ranger, all my playthroughs I just use hallowed armor+brain even on moonlord, the combo is ridiculously op.
Yeah, the brain needed a buff, and now it’s on equal footing to the scarf IMO. Besides, some bosses (EOL) it’s better to dodge then be dead in one hit.
Nice video, though the quad-barrel shotgun is only accessible post-Skeletron, which is a shame. Friend found that out the hard way on our last playthrough, lol
Hey socktreez, I got your video off of the recommendation tab and I'd like to say while I prefer the worm scarf, I have tried maining it as a summoner and it has served me well, even when I can't utilize the crits. The dodge in addition to hallowed armor made it really fun to play around with. On the topic of crimson though, I'd like to point out the flesh knuckles as a standout item for summoner in multiplayer. Usually summoners would only stick to Sanguine, Optic, Desert Tiger, and Raven staff because they 're the only summon weapon with noticable range when your melee is kiting. I would however spotlight this as it makes abigail's flower, spider staff, and other lack luster staffs with range do wonders. With the old one army's armor, well fed, ironskin pot, and full warding, you can easily get 104 defense after one mech boss! yes the reduction of having 3 or 4 summons might be annoying, but atleast you'd have 104 and really nice constant dps + survivability as a consolation prize.
@@nalツ yeah fr. i think some people are always going to prefer the "consistent dr" of the scarf, though. Personally i love the brain, but to each their own
@@nalツ Its really good, but personally for me the dodge is kind of unreliable and youll end up replacing it with master ninja gear once you beat plantera, while worm scarf can stay relevant through the whole game. Honestly, I dont even use the brain or scarf that often so everything im saying might be bogus lol
@HaxWorl Its defenitely better if your good at not being hit, but for the average player like me the worm scarf shines just because of its consistency. most game fandoms im in too thing good weapons that are inconsistent are bad but this one is the opposite🤔🤔🤔
If you're running by normal progression, the quad-barrel shotgun isn't actually obtainable before brain of Cthulhu. It only becomes available after Skeletron is defeated, which is typically _after_ brain. If you'd like on-tier weapons to use; crimson rod, jester arrows with any bow, and snapthorn+any summon are always solid options.
After the brain of confusion buff its pretty safe to say that Crimson has always been the number 1 pick for practically all experienced Terraria players as the items, materials, weapons, and even the armor are all better than the Corruption counterpart. The only thing different about the two evils are the overall difficulty of each of the evils. Corruption is significantly less bothersome while the Crimson is significantly much harder as your main enemies of the biome are Herplings and Floaty Grosses. What makes the Crimson more liked as well is its underground navigation making it much simpler than the Corruption where half of the time, its other entrances are mostly blocked. Underground Crimson makes it easier as you have plenty of space to move around with the only chokepoints being where the hearts are located. All of these things are what make the Crimson much more favorable than the Corruption as everything the Corruption did was outdone by the Crimson. And this is pretty sad seeing as how long the Corruption had held its crown for so long only for it to be stolen so suddenly without any chance of it climbing back up. Although this makes it seem as if the Corruption is a garbage pick, its held at least a part of its pride through TModLoader where you can have both evils to give the ability to own both the brain and the worm scarf. This makes the Corruption not as bad as a pick but more of a niche one where its only there just to get the worm scarf.
Brian of confusion, black belt, and hallowed armor can carry you through for the worthy master mode. When everything one shots you, dodging attacks is far better than damage reduction.
WOW that's been buffed.i think the scarf was added BC crimson ichor was always a winner but now I think it still has to be crimson. Also I'm guessing with that pumpkin moon load out you can't stack a cross necklace and ninja gear with it?
the Brain has a higher dodge chance than the master ninja equipment and keep the holy armor full set bonus after being use it so you can save the guaranteed invincibility for later Damage reduction works like this (damage - defense) - reduction from one item or (damage - reduction from two items) - defense With 1 item: (100 - 35) 0.825 = 56.785 With 2 items: (100 x 0.575) - 35 = 22.5
Honestly I think the worm scarf deserves a minor buff, like 20% instead of 17% damage reduction although the brain of confusion would probably need a buff too, like a slightly longer immunity time or something if that happened
Max tank can already face tank moon lord using these accessories, I see no reason to buff them. I'd rather have tinkerer upgrades for expert mode items or they buff ones like the bone helm
Quad-Barrel shotgun can only be purchased after defeating Skeletron, which might be difficult to get for new players. Just use jester arrows or a whip on the creepers.
that is not entirely the case, the brain of confusion although it can save you from death on several occasions, the worm scarf gives you extra survival, and unlike the brain does not require a luck factor In my opinion the brain is better for glass cannons classes, while the scarf is better for Melee users or those who have some defense to avoid being one-shotted (also if we talk about enemies that one-shot you would be ridiculous, since there are only 2)
@@ManuDelta1805 except that IS the case. The Worm Scarf is completely useless against DAY TIME Empress. No amount of damage reduction will let you survive any of her attacks, you will still get one shotted.
@@Wammyve You insinuate that for being useful against the EoLD Makes the scarf completely useless or something? @@ManuDelta1805 you make absolutely no sense. When was the zenith thrown in the mix? He's saying that damage reduction doesn't matter if you always get 1 shot. You'll still die despite that 17% damage reduction, but might survive with the brains 1/6 chance to dodge.
@@SquingisI was hinting that they're both good accessories in their own way for a long time, but apparently the brain is superior to the scarf for being useful against a boss than you'll only face if you go Summoner (Remember that the EoLN exists) Please tell me an attack that will literally one-shot you, there are only two enemies with instakill attacks, and it's not even guaranteed that you'll survive even with the brain I do not dislike the brain, but for me both accessories are Decent in their respective functions, and comparing them is just ridiculous
I feel like beyond the look and the accessories, I always go crimson for the ichor. I feel like it's a much stronger debuff to inflict than cursed flame
Agreed. Ichor’s advantage is damn near invaluable in the harder modes where enemy defense is buffed. On normal it sort of seems like the difference is negligible, but on master or even expert it becomes pretty clear.
Honestly, surprised more people don't know this. I've known this for so long (never used it but still known about it) and I'm surprised I've never heard anyone mention it.
As a crimson fan, I'm really happy to see it getting more love, although I must say I sometimes just use both for different situations, since in boss battles I think it's overall better to use the scarf, since it's benefits are greater with only one enemy compared to many, while the brain is more of an exploring and event type of accessory, except of course against daytime empress, there's one clear strategy for her
At expert and master mode I never picked the worm scarf, not only because I'm a ranger/ summoner but becuase at master mode you get 3 hit so taking 30 damage off a 150 hit isn't worth it
As someone who plays master mode FtW, I can say that the brain is infinitely more valuable, as the scarf won’t remove the 2-hit KO that 90% of bosses being EDIT: Typo
Ever since I first obtained the brain of confusion in 1.4 it's had a permanent accessory slot on all of my characters until I can get my hands on the ninja gear. Usually I play terraria with the intent on NOT getting hit, so the ability to avoid lethal damage all together instead of only slightly reducing it is significantly more valuable (ESPECIALLY in master mode).
as a worm scarf advocate, i cannot rely on being lucky. having 27% DR is busted insane crazy op (this is with endurance pot) like ive said, i hate dodge chance. totally gonna use the master ninja gear post plant, because the dodge is an EXTRA. dying in 4 hits instead of 3 is objectively better than having 3 1/6 chances of not dying 3 hits. dont even think about EOL because they fixed it.
i still prefer the scarf, but only because of its longevity - the percentage-based reduction only gets better as you tackle stronger enemies. the brain is certainly a solid option, though
What I consider more than any of this is that when using the brain of confusion you can use luck stats to increase the strength of it. Which means an even higher chance than 83%, but the scarf also is a more reliable source of defense
This video really helped me!! I tought the brain only put confusion on enemies , so i always went for corruption. This will make expert and master so much easier!!
I have a mod that allows me to set certain special seed generation without the rest of the generation. I use this to get the drunk seed's both evils on standard generation, allowing me to obtain both types of evil items. Being able to use both would be insane, because not only are you taking 17% less damage, you also get most normal enemies being confused and the 1 in 6 to negate damage. Insane for early hardmode and even late pre-hardmode
Honestly at this point I feel bad for the corruption, now it has nothing going for it. The expert accessories are now equally useful, meaning the only reason to choose corruption is the musket at the beginning of the game. Seriously, the crimson is just better in every single way which makes me sad
I think the coolest thing about the Crimson V. Corruption debate is that it exists at all. It shows just how well the Terraria devs implemented the Crimson as an alternative, with it being so closely balanced and loved that the community at large seems to be around 50-50 between the two.
This BoC with cross and black belt, loadout is a godsend, for the run I'm trying to do for a video. You're a legend, mate. (If you wanna know what run I'm doing, it's never been done before, that I know of)
In modded terraria like calamity I find it brain of confusion even better because it has 100% chance but it has cooldown for like 30-45 seconds so I can focus on dodging and it can just re appear.
i know this video is 9 months old but i thought they changed it so you couldnt get the quad barrel unless youve defeated skeletron or did that happen more recently than i realized.
I love going corruption just for the purple theme and easier boss fight to setup (cause in crimson when making the arena it feels like the spiders spawn so so often) but the brain is simply a staple in most of my load outs and love to use it
I did the math, and if you want 100% optimal damage reduction, go with the worm scarf (even tho it's barely better), but if a few damage isn't a big deal to you, go with the brain of confusion because you can inflict the confusion debuff on enemies, which can end up making you take less damage because you can run away more easily
I've always thought the Brain of Confusion was much better for exactly these reasons; choosing a Crimson world also gets you the Vampire Knives rather than the Scourge of the Corruptor, which is clearly a much better weapon. Basically the Crimson is always the better choice.
you definitely changed my mind on how I view the brain of confusion but I am still a worm scarf guy because if I was playing regularly damage would mean a lot to me and I don't just want to roll a dice to see if I could live or not.
oh by the way in the part explaining the worm scatf, you dont ACTUALLY need to use bombs. just grab some purification powder from the dryad and use it to purify ebonstone to stone and mine that stone normally! (same goes for crimson)

that is very true, master for the worthy has literally no point in using the scarf (damage reduction applies after defense with WS, while damage reduction applies BEFORE defense with BoC + 16% dodge rate)
More damage = More reduction. If you do 100 - 17% you get 83 but if you do 200 - 17% you get 166, it saves a lot of cases (especially when you have higher defense and more DR together with the worm scarf)
The quad barreled shotgun is post skeletron, I would recommend using a whip like the snapthorn to deal with the creepers, or grenades
Or grenades
snapthorn just destroys them. and then in the seconds stage if you have a high swing rate sword you can just stand still and the brain cant touch you
Jesters arrows tendon bow is goat for the boss, even just blood rain bow with its pierce is good enough to do work
Honestly the creepers are the hardest part of the fight. The final stage can also be tough but it’s just a matter of reaction speed. I played ranger during master mode I have no idea how a melee could kill the brain
Yes, use grenades to end the battle alot faster, only thing is you’ll be dead for even deciding to use grenades.
That’s a good way of looking at it! They both suite different play styles
I would agree if I was good at dodging😢
I also go crimson bc I like having ichor right away in Hardmode
@@The_MisterHands facts. Also better in calamity
Hardcore mode i prefer brain of confusion
I think this is going to make me switch from always playing corruption to playing crimson, this has been some useful information. Keep up the good content! :)
As a corruption supremacy believer
I just make a an artificial crimson
@@ThatGuyRNA I've always personally thought corruption just looked ugly. The dull greyish purple is really bland looking compared to a deep blood red. Though I won't deny the corruption soundtrack is far better than the crimson which sounds more like spastic slapstick sound effects. But crimson also stands out more making it easier to clean an area as it's incredibly obvious.
Also, keep in mind that the Brain of Confusion reduces damage before defense is applied (bigger number), while the worm scarf reduces damage after defense is applied (smaller number). Thus, even if they have the same percentage damage reduction, the brain ends up reducing more damage (as long as you don't get hit during its cooldown)
EDIT: nevermind I think I'm totally wrong
The Brain of Confusion doesn't reduce damage at all. It avoids damage entirely. Of COURSE it's going to reduce more damage, it's literally avoiding 100% of it.
I see what you're trying to say though practically it really doesn't matter
pretty sure you're wrong there, as the mimic did 143 damage versus 103, which doesn't add up unless the damage reduction applies before the defense does.
On second thought, we'd need a larger sample size because of variance between individual hits.
@@donovanmahan2901 damage reduction is counted after defense, the 143 to 103 was mostly from damage randomization(a enemy does somewhere between 0.85x and 1.15x it's damage on hit).
no offense but are you braindead?
Omg, I never realized until now. The quad barreled shotgun is a nod to the Phantasm movie series, just like the enemy called Deadly Sphere. So cool that a somewhat sleeper 80s horror series is alluded to in game. Those movies gave me serious nightmares as a kid in the 90s.
I always preferred crimson even before the brain buff thanks to the mostly superior loot and imo better terrain thanks to the holes only being every once in a while and going down is way safer since you're way less likely to accidentally fall to your death in the early game
Corruption is annoying to traverse and, this is just a personal thing, I think Crimson has a more interesting set of colors.
If you then added the cross necklace, dodge trifecta

i always picked corruption for the worm scarf, but this video definitely changed my mind. i’m actually excited to try the accessory load out you mentioned with the vampire knives and other fun melee weapons. thanks for changing my mind :)
at least finally, someone is speaking the praise of the brain
everybody wrote it off since 1.3 and it's lackluster ability, but now it's super good. So good in fact, that the next dodge ability is in Hardmode AFTER the mechs are defeated. And then after that, it's Post Plantera Dungeon with the Black belt
I have no clue why people dont use it more often now, especially in tandem with Master Ninja Gear, Hallow Armor, and a Cross Necklace. It's so good and it's a shame people still think it's rubbish.
I ussualy forget its a good item and throw it away lol
come on stop it literally everyone praises and uses it.

I found the BoC helpful in my first expert mode run but I'm still fond of the -17% of damage
this video did legitimately change my mind, never thought about it that way, didnt look in depth enough
I mean I guess.. but the brain functionally tanks better too

A good amount of negative stigma around the Brain likely revolves around how it launched in 1.3 where it only has the confusion debuff, making it absolutely useless since about 70% of all enemies are immune to the debuff, including all bosses
You have changed my mind on which is better; well done, Sock.
Brain of confusion is very good in summoner builds since the 10% crit rate means a 10% buff in damage for minions
minions cannot crit
Not for daytime eol tho where it literally one shots you
not with EOL anymore either lol
EOL negate every dodge now, even hallowed armor
I accidentally discovered how cool the brain is when I created the wrong accessory in calamity. I was always using the scarf before, but the brain is also so cool, especially if you're not melee
Brain of confusion is one of those items that becomes reliable with with synergies
But in prehardmode worm scarf becomes a better option since it's one of the first good equipments you get in prehardmode that is already really useful alone
And there are many times that for example an enemy does just enough damage to one shot you, the brain has a 1 in 6 chance to save you, while the worm WILL save you
daytime empress be like : am i a joke to you?
@@abopotato6457 This was my EXACT thought after reading this comment!
@@DarkXSolver17 lol
Ya know what, y'all right, in times and fights when 1 attack does a lot more than you can chew, brain atleast has a chance to save you, the worm alone can't do s**t in this situation
But still, both moonlord and eol are end game and near endgame bosses and i did say brain of confusion is more useful with synergies , so basically endgame since the ninja gear(it's been a couple of months since i played so I'm not sure) is obtainable after plantera
But at the end of it all, you can get the other evil seeds from the dryad so if you're going for a tank build you could have both of them
This is a hot can of worms you’re opening and I love every bit of it
I'm so glad they changed this. Worm scarf was soooo powerful in 1.3 that picking crimson in expert mode meant you were either really confident in your skill or really new. I've always found the crimson vastly more fun and more interesting then the corruption but picked corruption cause having the worm scarf was so valuable. glad it is more of a fair game rather then the best accessory in the game vs the worst like 1.3
Crimson had better hard mode items even in 1.3 sue me
@@ethe2nd662 Nah, you're mostly correct. And in single player the putrid scent sucks, but the flesh knuckles are pretty good for that extra defense compared to doing nothing at all unless you're playing with friends.
yeah but honestly now i feel like i shot my self in the foot by doing corruption master for the worhty
Seeing people fight over which pixels are better is hilarious. They're both good items tbh
Fun fact :
When you're using hallowed armor and your brain of confusion activates, it actually saves your holy protection buff.
Which makes it good for "dodging" classes like mage, summoner, and sometimes ranger, all my playthroughs I just use hallowed armor+brain even on moonlord, the combo is ridiculously op.
i usually change the brain into a master ninja gear since there's an extra ability of dashing which can be good for dodging.
@@kgt8742
I just use all 3, before ninja gear that you can still use shield of cthulu for boink invincibility frames.
If you’re willing to go to the jungle then you can get the boomstick pre-boss
Why not both? Just make the other evil biome and get the missing one and have 17% damage reduction and a 1/6 chance to avoid attacks.

With the old one army's armor, well fed, ironskin pot, and full warding, you can easily get 104 defense after one mech boss! yes the reduction of having 3 or 4 summons might be annoying, but atleast you'd have 104 and really nice constant dps + survivability as a consolation prize.
cool thing to note: if you are fighting Empress of Light, the brain could let you dodge one of her instant kill attacks which the scarf can’t do
I learned these details a looooong time ago, but I completely forgot about them. Thanks for re-enlightening me to the might of the brain!

After the brain of confusion buff
its pretty safe to say that Crimson has always been the number 1 pick for practically all experienced Terraria players as the items, materials, weapons, and even the armor are all better than the Corruption counterpart.
Totally agree, the only thing I like about the Corruption is the very strong Musket gun and the Worm Scarf
But I would always go for crimson
Brian of confusion, black belt, and hallowed armor can carry you through for the worthy master mode. When everything one shots you, dodging attacks is far better than damage reduction.
plus, it's a very good combo for daytime EOL
WOW that's been buffed.i think the scarf was added BC crimson ichor was always a winner but now I think it still has to be crimson. Also I'm guessing with that pumpkin moon load out you can't stack a cross necklace and ninja gear with it?
I feel like you're an Infographics for Terraria, like the opening and other edits.
Love it
the Brain has a higher dodge chance than the master ninja equipment and keep the holy armor full set bonus after being use it so you can save the guaranteed invincibility for later
Damage reduction works like this
(damage - defense) - reduction from one item or
(damage - reduction from two items) - defense
With 1 item: (100 - 35) 0.825 = 56.785
With 2 items: (100 x 0.575) - 35 = 22.5
just wanna say im glad u used the less than sign correctly in the thumbnail lol, so many thumbnails dont lmao
Basically worm scarf for newer ppl who aren't good at dodging and brain of confusion for ppl who don't get hit very often
Quad-Barrel shotgun can only be purchased after defeating Skeletron, which might be difficult to get for new players. Just use jester arrows or a whip on the creepers.
Or grenades, they are OP
And no one is gonna talk about how he got slime staff at 3:52
Brain of confusion is literally one of the key components to defeating day time Empress, the worm scarf being useless in comparison
that is not entirely the case, the brain of confusion although it can save you from death on several occasions, the worm scarf gives you extra survival, and unlike the brain does not require a luck factor
In my opinion the brain is better for glass cannons classes, while the scarf is better for Melee users or those who have some defense to avoid being one-shotted (also if we talk about enemies that one-shot you would be ridiculous, since there are only 2)

@@muovd yes, you’re right. Thank you
When it comes to choosing world evil, in my opinion it's not between worm scarf or brain of confusion, it's between worm scarf or ichor.
Now you can have both :)
Sock:use brain

i still prefer the scarf, but only because of its longevity - the percentage-based reduction only gets better as you tackle stronger enemies. the brain is certainly a solid option, though
@Super Ninja daytime eol can be cheesed with a mechanical cart
The developers did an amazing job with this game look at this the items for each biome are unique and useful for different purposes
Why not use both at the same time?
Bro !
That is insane ! nice idea
Brain of Confusion was a must in my fights with the Dungeon Guardian/daylight EoL. The Scarf did not even have a place in my plannings.
I think that is kind of obvious
Please never stop making content this way, don’t start adding misleading titles or thumbnails these are perfect
It's pretty funny to think about just a few years ago, when that thumbnail would resemble clickbait rather than a genuine opinion
POV: 17% DR against day time empress is not as good as 1/6 change to dodge an attack especially if you have a dodge build
I love the brain of confusion because I can blame my deaths on bad luck as opposed to the worm scarf, where I just have to be bad
Corruption music still slaps 💀
I literally used it the entire play through of my first time playing expert mode, it dodged that moonlord beam more than once.

Good luck using the warm scarf on princess of light day. Checkmate! :v
i know this video is 9 months old but i thought they changed it so you couldnt get the quad barrel unless youve defeated skeletron or did that happen more recently than i realized.
Thats a serious buff to the brain of confuzzlement, i used to always pick corruption on expert but now ill just randomize as both are much more equal
I love going corruption just for the purple theme and easier boss fight to setup (cause in crimson when making the arena it feels like the spiders spawn so so often)
but the brain is simply a staple in most of my load outs and love to use it
Image the brain, the cross necklace, the black belt, and the vampire knives. The best part is that it is all crimson available too.
I did the math, and if you want 100% optimal damage reduction, go with the worm scarf (even tho it's barely better), but if a few damage isn't a big deal to you, go with the brain of confusion because you can inflict the confusion debuff on enemies, which can end up making you take less damage because you can run away more easily
currently using the BoC on my getfixedboi character, and i cant imagine getting as far as i have without it
I've always thought the Brain of Confusion was much better for exactly these reasons; choosing a Crimson world also gets you the Vampire Knives rather than the Scourge of the Corruptor, which is clearly a much better weapon. Basically the Crimson is always the better choice.
Same here I don’t look at the BOC itself, but much rather the long term benefits of having a crimson world.

There’s actually a mod that combines them both called “Brain Scarf”
That would be so awesome! I may have to go get that mod.
Is it for 1.4?
Also, getting hit interrupts health regen. So there’s that.

oh by the way in the part explaining the worm scatf, you dont ACTUALLY need to use bombs. just grab some purification powder from the dryad and use it to purify ebonstone to stone and mine that stone normally! (same goes for crimson)
