The first time I watched Toms' presentation, I had recently upgraded my kit to v7.12.1 and I have to admit that I wasn't really concentrating on the detailed explanations; the important parts. The second time around, I was more focused and more attentive, and things were much clearer and easier to understand. Cheers Toms
I had the feeling Mikrotik would pull this off when I bought a bunch op hap ac2's two years ago. Just installed and I see an inmedeate 1.2-2x improvement in 5Ghz speed. Big Big thanks to the team making this happen. The easy thing would have been to regard these devices as obsolete and leave them as-is. Take your time for WiFi 7, I know it'll be great!
Welcome the change, a little painful in the implementation (due to the low storage on ac2 and others), but being able to upgrade capable device to wifiwave2 is great. Cheers for the continued support of older devices. Cant wait to give it a try.
@@materangics6984 huh? They've just enabled wifiwave2 features on hardware that previously didn't support it. How is that at all a bad thing? Am I missing something?
Awesome! Thank you so much!! I thought the cAP AC's I bought a year ago were obsolete now, but MT came through with a win. I finally got around to setting up my cAP AX today, and stumbled across the 7.13 changes. The only sticky point was I mistakenly thought there was a way to browse addon packages in the UX, and it wasn't immediately obvious that uninstalling and installing packages were triggered by a reboot. Once I figurded that out, I was able to get WPA3 working flawlessly. Thanks again! You rock MT!
@MikroTik Please put on description URL to documentation bcs this new "WIFI" have a total differ interface to setup wifi - you again create a someting new, like 5 ways to configure vlans but now for wifi - perfect idea, ahh!
Meet a problem, that the client (mobile phone, computer) cannot connect the APs (wifi-qcom-ac capsman), that shown incorrect wifi password.(hAP ac2, hAP ac3 ,wAP ac (arm))
Toms could you please do a detailed video on setting up wifi 6 on ROS WIFI with VLANS and multiple SSIDs please. I have purchased CAPAX AP's to replace my old CAPAC's but i cannot get the network VLAN subnets to work. Clients connect to caps, radios all working well managed by my RB4011 under WIFI. But despite trying almost everything i still cannot resolve my VLAN issue. Please help provide a definitive how to on setting this up. Many thanks.
Please do something for hap ac2. Because of low storage, when I click on "download and install" to upgrade from 7.12.1 to 7.13.1, it fails with a log of shortage of storage, although there is nothing in storage other than the original file by OS.
Will switching from the wireless package to wifi-qcom-ac require a full reconfiguration of wireless interfaces/profiles in a stand-alone configuration? Update: Nevermind, just upgrading to 7.13 alone broke the wifi configuration (cAP ac) =)
Does this mean the wAP ac will be able to do WPA3 and wifiwave2 as well? I remember it used to be exclusive to 256 MB RAM devices but the other compatible devices you mentioned have 128 MB, so I'm really hoping this can bring some life into the wAP ac, as I've been holding off purchases until there was a wAP ac which could do WPA3 or a wAP ax which many of us are still keen for. Edit: Looks like it supports the second gen wAP ac, but not the first gen one (as a side note, some better product names would make this distinction a lot easier, but I think it's been better since, I guess if it was to be done now, it would be called the wAP ac²).
From reading the forums, I know the differences but this still sounded confusing(the table at 3:42 is a good, short explanation though). Moving CAPsMAN out(on the main menu) and rearranging(hiding somewhere else or renaming) “WiFi” and “Wireless” would probably resolve some of the confusion.
I have a hAP ac2 router. Which package should i upgrade to? I upgrade manually and i tried upgrading to RouterOS 7.13 but now my router SSID is gone and i cannot connect wirelessly. Someone please help.
Woh, what a changes. Got to see what this means when I will update my cap ax. But my guess is that I have to stop my Mikrotik for friends-and-family program. It's unmanageable.
All this confusion is why I’m staying away from Mikrotik Wifi for now for home setup. For now running my Hex and using an ASUS AX router as an Access Point.
I just got my RB5009 and quite like it, but there is a glaring flaw, that made me seriously consider just returning it. Tell me, why oh why there is no buzzer on this router? How can I live without my router playing silly songs? Why did you guys do this?
Side question: Now that WifiWave2 works on both the cAP AC (XL) and cAP AX, what are the differences? I noticed my phone lists them as WiFi 5 and 6 respectfully, but since both devices support fast roaming and WPA3, what differentiates them now? Thanks!
I have to reboot HAP AC2 so many times and even connect it to laptop wired to switch to new wifi-qcom-ac, so it was hardest ros upgrade in my life. Upload wifi-qcom-ac file, reboot, it failed to install due to insufficient flash space, uninstall wireless package, reboot, connect to laptop via cable and upload wifi-qcom-ac file, reboot. Also because it is a backup router I decided to configure it from scratch via quick set, so I made Reset Configuration. I think it's even not possible to make such update on real PROD router without really long downtime and on-site presence.

Just got HAP Ax, and would like to use new capman. what should I do? 1. not all device can be upgrade to ROS7. 2. how is performance of HAP AC lite with ROS7 (it only has 64mb as minimum requirement of ROS7). 3 can new capman control capman device from ROS6?
Maybe I'm missing some very obvious points, but I'm trying to get my hapac2 & capac network working with wave2. Installed the packages correctly, capsman is using my bridge as interface, the connected capac can connect to it, but I cannot get to work the hap local interfaces (configuration.manager:capsman, CAP enabled, listening on the same bridge). The hap wifi interfaces simply say "no connection to CAPsMAN". I can provision those radios if I hit provision on the radios tab, but that's not the same, isn't it? Is there any obvious solution?
capsmann with new packages on this devices is really buggy. Also much bugs with wpa3, some of mine home devices cant connect (but its ok on another vendor device). I think we need to wait for 7.14
After installation a new package our bridge-lan have 2x unknow interfaces who must be corrected by this new wifi interfaces - MikroTik should do that automatically. New QuickSet not setup a wifi properply - again it's broke - this is like always not working feature - you should remove QuickSet if it's not work.
Im planning to buying a cAP AX for my RB5009 PoE versiomn. I want to manage that via Capsman. Is that possible? what do i need? Im running the latest testing release of routeros 7.15 beta 6 installed packages are routeros and wireless on the RB5009
Yes, it's possible. I have the same HW configuration (ROS 7.15.2). The "routeros" package is enough to manage WiFi 6 APs (like cAP AX). I disabled "wireless" package as I don't have any other APs. It is required to manage up to WiFi 5 APs only.
Is MikroTik going to offer an option like most other wireless. I think Ubiquiti calls it PPSK. So one radio has separate passwords and people can be on separate VLANS and such.
You can assign different passphrases to different clients, based on their MAC address, by using the access-list. You can also assign per-user VLANs, but this feature is only supported on 802.11ax chipsets.

Big fan of this change, but now, the roaming between old and new wifi devices with the same ssid will not be seamless. Environments with devices mixed between hAPac and hAPax2 for example.
From my understanding, CAPsMAN does not do roaming, it’s the WiFi protocols supported by “Wave2” routers and the client devices that adds the roaming capability.
@@aliancemd yep, but that means it wasn't seamless to begin with in the case of the OP's environment. Now at least parts of it can be, so it's still better than what we had before.
