What would we do without you each Christmas, Matthew? I agree with your point about nostalgia for the past - my era was 74 - 77 which seems so old now. Mind you, I love any Aardman idents so I was a fan of this year's 🙂

If the good old BEEB decided to spend just a portion of their budget on beautifully animated idents or even stop motion to introduce their programs throughout the day (warm and cosy heartwarming stuff at Christmas time), instead of bouncy castles and face painting or whatever it is they do with our money, then the whole world would be a slightly happier place.

Another great “wrapping” to add to the series Matthew. I thought it was particularly poignant what you mentioned at the start of the video. We’re all nostalgic for that Christmas Ident package of our youth and so when we see the very system that provides those memories become more and more ‘redundant’ as media changes and we get older, well it’s just another reminder that those days are gone, never to return. We may try and chase that feeling by clinging on to old Xmas rituals or we seek out Xmas adverts/idents from our youth but ultimately we know that it’s never going to match the feeling in our heads of what we ‘think’ Xmas used to be like. There’s a bittersweet feeling I get around this time of year when I try to chase the ghost of Xmas past. Merry Christmas and here’s to a much better new year. We may well get that season finale next year…..

You know, I do think that Linear television will live on in some way. I feel like a lot of people will get overwhelmed by all the choice and just want to "go along for the ride". In fact, the American Network G4 is proving that Linear TV may still survive the Digital age.
Merry Christmas, Matt, and let's hope for a better 2022, I know I'm wishing for that, this has been a horrible year for me, and I'd love to see it in the rear mirror.

It is a shame that television channels don't really apply an identity to their trailer packages any more, and the ones that do are so dull and functional. I do wonder how much longer they'll be bothering with them at all. Looking forward to 4sight2 (the original of which I still revisit every now and then) and the BBC new-look specials next year.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you do. This year's been absolute rubbish in various different ways and your videos have been a small beacon of light for me.

Hadn't seen S4C until now, they snatch second place at the death from Channel 4 for me. ITV would have got my vote last year with the 'balloon present' logo, but this year BBC1 played the Aardman card, so wins by default.
The RTE Guide didn't give us a Christmas tale this year, the inside of the cover having an ad for Lidl. They did a two page spread showing some of the covers from 60 years, but of course we've seen them all round here, now... RTE1's idents this year are seemingly going with the idea of Christmas on One lighting up your life in these bleak times. They have a single shot focused on a house lit up, the one I've seen most often being of a terrace with the lights on at only one house. The trailers were about togetherness, as it seems was the cover, which along with the slogan "Totally worth it!" swiftly aged once the plague chose to supersize itself for December. No, it really isn't, guys...
Stinger for this year: With RTE getting a look in this year, I went with Dustin the Turkey, 30 years ago, flogging wrapping paper in Moscow, RTE sending The Den crew to what would in a few days' time not be the USSR anymore for Christmas because reasons. Joyous Bobunk.

Channel 4 and why not S4C?!? since both have been nearly the same except the news, no pressure.

@@videonut1988 well I said the key word “Nearly” because a lot of channel 4 shows were also featured on S4C as it is CH4 for Wales and wales is part of the UK.
