    Tasted it today for the first time at a farmers market. The juice is tart but palletable. The vendor is elderly and i aksed if she ever needed help to pick and she was like oh yes. So i will get to do that soon. I want to amke the syrup and i bought the berries she had ro make the juice. Any recipes like a vinagrette I could use on salmon or orher fish or meats. Ill most lioe experiment and make my own but just asking.

      Your creativity is the limit. It pairs really well with fish.

    I just had some sea buckthorn juice from the Russian market today in Philadelphia, I'd never heard of "облепиха". I did not like it. The sip begins with an electrifying tangerine type taste and ends with a bitter aftertaste, like cranberry juice. But the bitter aftertaste burns my tongue a bit like some kind of habernero almost. Must be the tanins or something. Maybe I got a bad brew. But I wouldn't try it again.

      I've never heard that before, maybe you're reacting to it somehow? It's really tart indeed, I wouldn't drink it as it is, I would mix it with something sweet.

      It came in a mini juicebox form with a plastic straw, I assumed it was okay as is @@Cristina-mc2sc

      @@maxaronow712 That makes more sense now. It may be an acquired taste, but it might just have been a terrible batch. I don't see it on the market at all actually

    Would boiling not destroy all the vitamin c contain in the juice?

    • @Cristina-mc2sc
      @Cristina-mc2sc  3 роки тому

      It may destroy some but I don't think all of it. I personally just like the taste and would rather have a syrup/jam I made myself than buy it with all the additives. If you want the raw properties, keep it simple. Use honey on top. Keep in the fridge. Don't heat it up, honey hates heat.

      yes, boiling destroys the vitamins. When you're making juice of any fruit it should only be heated to around 75 degrees (Celcius). It's hot enough to kill the natural yeast and prevent the juice from fermenting or turning bad but doesn't destroy the nutrients and vitamins :)

      Sea buckthorn can be gathered from the wild. Specialised organic shops usually have extracts/capsules.
