    Epic opening shot of the three knives and feriasium rod on the stump. Great video, I really like the fact that you state that in the past you had a bad experience with this steel. It shows that you are willing to keep checking out different heat treats and HRC levels to find what works. God bless you and your family.

    Sweet knife for sure. I’m a fan of Nitro-V. You’re right about high hardness on Nitro-V making improving the performance. Levi does very good work.👊🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔪🇺🇸

      It’s crazy how a point or two in HRC can change the entire performance of a steel! I have had a lot of glassy Nitro-V. This stuff is super bitey though!!!! Thanks for watching F- I appreciate you brother!

    Nitro V is a good steel, so is AEB-L which I would put in the same category. They both need to be run hard to get the most out of the steel. When done right they are impressive for the money. An interesting thing about many stainless steels is that when the are run hard they loose some stain resistance. I have seen this in several data sheets from the steel manufacturers specify this in their heat treating instructions. Apex Alchemy just did a very interesting hardness test on a new Pasific Salt in Magnacut. The result was in the high 59's which is way to soft. I bet it was a decision to run it at a lower hardness to maximize stain resistance sice it is in the Salt Series. I take care of my knives and don't care about stain resistance. A knife is a cutting tool, make it as good as possible for that purpose!

    • @ericasedc
      @ericasedc  4 місяці тому

      Exactly! 59 is WAY too soft. That’s gonna be a butter knife the moment you use it! You’re totally right about the higher HRC sometimes resulting in lack of stainless properties! I have been experiencing that. Doesn’t bother me at all though!

    At one point during this video I actually brushed the palm of my hand over the screen of my laptop a few times, because I thought that there were ants running over it!!! There were no ants there, obviously, as the ants were running all over the stump you were working on in the video!! 🤣. Your testing videos are literally driving me Buggy, E!!!!! Hahahahaha!! Super interesting testing and analysis of Nitro V!!! Besides just putting it back in the kydex sheath covered in water and dirt, you could maybe leave the Otter submerged in random noxious fluids, chemicals and irritants overnight and try to force a Nitro V patina!! LOL. On the menu tonight?....Acetone and balsamic vinegar!!!! The Otter wants a vinegar bath!!! 😂. I bet you could force an epic rainbow patina!! That is seriously the most perfect camp knife that I've ever seen!!! Love it!!! Congrats on the Otter drop!!! Another awesome video, Erica!!!! ❤🧡

    I own a bunch of knives in 14C28N and NITRO-V. Very similar to each other in performance. I have not needed to actually sharpen any of them yet. A touch-up on a steel kit all they've needed. I'm fairly sure that the knives I own are on the softer side 60 to 61 HRC. Good video, Erica. Thanks

    To Otter or not to otter, that is the question .... (couldn't resist)
    Some times the term stainLESS should have been turned around to stainmore, as people think LESS means Not at all.
    Glad you saved your finger(s) from a bandage or supper glue. Good solid content as always
