    @groovydjs - I really enjoyed your 3+ hour informative rant on guitar stuff! Totally agree that vintage Fender "take off the neck to adjust the truss rod" has got to be one of the most guitarded holdovers of all time; religiously keeping 21 frets is another (why not add one to make 22?). What are your thoughts on spot leveling of a few frets after the truss rod and action have been properly addressed?

    Hey Scott, great vid! Always appreciated your vids and I've learned a lot from you throughout the years. One question I had is string gauges. How big of a role does it play? I do find myself liking the sound of thicker strings to get a good solid full tone out of my guitar. I am about to upgrade to 11s and just wanted to know if you have any advice when it comes to string gauges. Does it even make much of a difference, should I just stick to a lighter gauge, is it just personal preference? Thanks for all you do Scott hope all is well.

    • @groovydjs
      @groovydjs  Рік тому +1

      Howdy, it's all preference. You have guys like Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top that use 7 gauge strings and get a super thick sound. So, just a small tweak of the amp's eq would make up for anything that you possibly lose or gain by thicker or thinner strings.

    the brake angle doesn't have to do with sustain it has to do with tension, people say bends are easier and there is less chance to break strings. some of your points are so good , but some are so wrong both historically and the way metal and electrons actually function.

    I like seeing people with Down's syndrome make UA-cam videos. We should all support Scott for his efforts. It's ten times harder for him to get through life than what the rest of us experience. He is certainly special.

    A breath of fresh air from Dave's World of Fun Stuff who acts like anything slightly off of the manufacturer recommended string height is an abomination...

      Many thanks. Yeah, Dave can get a bit stale to say the least. Every video has him measuring everything to those specs and it simply doesn't work for EVERY instrument.

      @isaiahburridgemusic Рік тому

      @@groovydjs you're right. Those specs are good place to start for those who are learning. But eventually, you want to do what's best for the guitar and your playing style.
      I learned that from YOU so many years ago when you posted this. Can you re-upload the guitar setup video you did? It's where you setup a camo covered Gibson explorer I think. It's very informative and you bust a lot of stupid myths. My personal favorite is when someone STILL tells me to never take all the strings off the guitar at once. Truly one of the stupidest things to ever gain traction.

    Hey, brother. I was in a guitar shop a while ago and the owner handed me a £3000 acoustic guitar. It was unbelievable. It was easier to play than any electric guitar I've ever played. The action was amazing. My question is this: SURELY it's possible to set up even a £200 guitar to play as well? I understand it may not sound as good, but surely it's all in the setup?

    • @groovydjs
      @groovydjs  Рік тому +2

      GREAT to hear from you!!! Yeah, some axes are just perfect out of the box, others really need some attention to the setup. As far as acoustic guitars go, it takes some REAL know how to get everything straight and true. I wish I was one of those guys. My Rainsong carbon fiber guitar came with the bridge unfinished. They left it 100% in my hands to shave it down and get it right. I took my time and was able to get everything exactly the way I wanted it and it has stayed that way since doing it. It was actually really fun to do it. Of course the guitar itself was all true and straight, being what it is. But, the cheapo guitars can be setup to play amazingly. I have a kid's guitar that I got for $5.00 that turned out great. It's a turd of an axe as far as sound goes, but it plays beautifully.

    Step 2;: Decide your goal is to play music, not play with guitar gear.

    Here's the truth about guitardation and the guitards. Some of them are born like that and really can't help it. Some of them struggle but a lot of them go on to be very successful. I mean look at Alan Jackson or Garth Brooks. They are both exceptionally guitarded and not only that are equally guitarded. Guitardation is hereditary but there are some cases where an individual was born normal but later became guitarded to some extent. They get disoriented and very irritable. It's a learning disability
