Oh my, that shrimp dinner looked awesome! Glad Charlie can be distracted by PB but it looked like Maddie had made enough for four. (Never would've guessed that a parrot would be so interested in cooked food!)
Thanks again for a great video, your passage, although intense, was sure relaxing to watch as you guys sail to FL! As always, fair winds and following seas in your travels!
LOL, short passage for some bad asses! Holy epic whale sighting 😮 The mighty Mona brought Herby down, Whoah!!?? Parrot hood...I see what you did there 🤣
Loved the video , it gives a whole different meaning to roll reversal . You to have been an inspiration from the first video. It seems during our first covid lock down is when I started subscribing to everything boat related . My wife and I live on a boat and we have tv but can't get the phone out of hands , so it u tube and you've contributed so so much . Mahalo
New subscriber here. What a pleasure watching you sail. Love Charlie and loved watching her eat peanut butter from a spoon. Looking forward to watching future videos.
The Kid's are back in town, awesome something to watch on earth. Love this channel I've learned so much. Like when the boat was rocking side to side in rough chop, it seems to me the sails needed less bag in them and a bit more sag at the bottom of them. Maybe it's all just extra boat weight all the bilge water bottles and full dentistry on board 🤔 😅
Such a cool whale! Your cooking made me hungry. I admire your ability to cook underway Maddie and if Herbie was sick I'm sure I'd be a wreck. I can't imagine being a refugee on an overloaded boat in those conditions. It makes me thankful for what I have.
I'm not laughing (well, not too much!), but I vividly remember my mum accusing me of being one of "those people" who would eat greasy sandwiches while standing on a bulkhead in force five seas and laugh at the dying. Then she discovered Bonine, she was able to finally laugh right back! Take care, thanks for sharing and great good luck!
Now I am hungry! Don't know what I want... Dagwood sammich, shrimp fried rice or chili cheese dogs over Fritos.... the later is usually what I ate before I get seasick (it was the last time anyways. LOL). Quick question, @ 17:30 the camera/mic was inside the companion way, Maddi was making dinner and a low pitched hum could be heard in the background (sounded like a fraternity of monks). Was that just weird audio or the wind in your rig? I'll second the baro.... remember right shoulder, left shoulder. ;P
Another great video. I noticed you don't have a boomvang, my boat is an old utra-heavy bluewater cruiser from the 70's and it doesn't have one either. Do you find that it's fine without one?
If you were Charlie the bird (macaw?), this voyage would be like a crazy scary trip to Mars. She'll be telling your new bird all about it, and about that big dog, and the dock cat.
She certainly didn’t like sailing in the beginning. She would get grumpy and sulk in the galley. Now she has come to enjoy it and watches the waves go by 😎
For seasickness try to close, or cover one eye. I found this to be very effective on long rough passages. I think it removes the contradiction between what your eyes see and the input from your inner ear. Being prone to seasickness this helps me particularly when I go down below.
That is a great suggestion. Sadly that technique doesn't seem to counter the causes of my (many, debilitating) bouts. The only thing that has ever tempered my affliction is to take control of the tiller/wheel. I suspect that if I could dabble with that, an effective remedy might be developed but such experience isn't in the future. Hopefully someone else will note this and give it a try.
My plan is to not get seasick again 🤢 I can’t remember the previous time I was seasick but they are few and far between. Being close to shore and in sight of land helps a lot as it gives you something to look at. Being in the ocean where the horizon is going all over the place makes me want to curl up in a pity ball and cry.
We took down the first season of cruising because we hadn’t figured out how to film and edit yet. Season 2 is when we set off and started cruising. Season 2: ua-cam.com/play/PLlDgR504BxwmQKpzSKXSnLpJFqHfn5Kk1.html Season 3 is where we figured out how to make better episodes, so I recommend starting there: ua-cam.com/play/PLlDgR504Bxwncut9GSKb0SmU1LztUtIw9.html
How cool is that? A humpback whale near PR!! Awesome. A question about Mona passage? I assume you’re heading from the Caribbean Sea to Atlantic. Does the current flow with you?
Great video! The shrimp looked awesome! How is it traveling with birds? Is it much of a hassle checking into other countries? Are there certain countries that are more of a hassle? TIA
The Mona Passage. It is a very serious passage for people who hails from the north eastern region of the Adriatic Sea, as Mona has a particular meaning: either, as substantive, is the female sex: La Mona or, as adjective, means stupid that can also be a noun: El Mona, the stupid... To you the choice.
I love you guys, but I have to admit i let out a snorted laugh when you said you were reefing at 15 degrees of heel! 😂 Come to the dark side- the fun begins at 20!
When I just bought the boat and didn’t have my entire life in it, I used to go all the way to 40°. It was fun having the portholes on the deck go under the water! Now that we have all our stuff in there, tipping our home over far isn’t as fun. We just need to clear out a bunch of junk we don’t need to carry and we will be heeling over again ;)
This may be a silly question and maybe even a question that you can’t answer. I’m wondering if the birds ever have shown signs of being seasick? I also have to say thank you for showing us that you two both experienced sailors can get seasick. Comment update: I too love my sandwiches cut diagonally there is no other way to eat a sandwich
Luckily the birds have never shown signs of seasickness! Gerry hasn’t ever been in big seas, so we don’t really know about her, but Charlie is amazing.

Want dishonesty? How about "you're going to give me $300.00 or I'm going to quarantine your boat for 14days.. "Providenciales Customs".. Fair winds..
When I was growing up in Puerto Rico, my family would go to the DR for fishing tournaments. The customs agents wouldn’t check you in until you gave them the “thing” they decided they wanted when they checked your boat. It could be food, a nice fishing rod, anything. I call that corruption! My dad would always hide the good fishing rods and put out a pretty sacrificial rod, which inevitably they would “select”. Boats that didn’t give in to this corruption would be turned away. They might have been exploiting the fishing tournament boats, but either way I find that to be very dishonest; so we skipped the country entirely for fear that they might “want” Charlie.
