Question 1) A Malthusian catastrophe would happen when the population exceeds the carrying capacity. Malthus believed that we would reach a point where we would no longer be able to feed all of the people in society. This would result in war, famine, and the possible destruction of society. (Population growth is exponential and food production grows arithmetically, according to Malthus)
Question 2) Answers may vary. Example: 1) Malthus was criticized for being an alarmist and being anti-family. 2)Today we can see how thanks to the agricultural revolutions food production does not grow arithmetically, we have become more efficient thus allowing for more food production. 3)We also do not see population growth continue to grow exponentially, due to increased economic development, urbanization, women empowerment, and more.
Question 3) Answers may vary. Example: 1) Malthus created his theory during stage 2 of the demographic transition model, this was a time of massive population growth. 2) Malthus did not realize that eventually society would transition into stage 3 and 4 of the demographic transition model, which sees the population growth rate slow. 3) Malthusian theory only works if countries do not advance further into the demographic transition model, if countries stay stuck in stage 2 then we will continue to see a rapidly growing population.
Question 4) As technology continues to advance society becomes more efficient and productive. This allows for more food production, improved agricultural practices, and new economic opportunities for people. All of these improvements makes it easier for society to feed their populations and reduces the chance of a Malthusian catastrophe.
Question 5) An exponential growth rate resembles a J-Curve, where a population continuously doubles and expands. Where arithmetic growth is more of a constant growth, where the amount of people or products continue to grow at a set rate.

Except you don’t explain why neo Malthusians are also wrong now. Which is the same reason old Malthusians were wrong. Not only will population level off, but as prices for resources rise, it creates incentives for people to invent more efficient technologies to do more with less. Or, to substitute an old resource with something new and cheaper and more abundant, or with a new and better technology.

Unless you live on a planet with limited resources and as far we go eve the access to those resources will be even harder for not developed country..as boserup says technology will be the solution and it’s correct in some parts the main problem will be develop those technologies with lack of resources so I guess the truth stand in the middle btwn those theories
