nepalnt2121 Yeah, it should've just been labeled My Top Ten Phasers. It's definitely not a shootout, as there's not enough time given, to each one, to determine much of anything.
Use a phaser correctly setup seems impossible for people who do the demos ! A few lead tones that work are not weird overmixed chorus setting like this video ?
This tells me nothing. If you are going to do a test between phasers or any same type pedals, cut the other effects and twiddle-dee-dees set the knobs maybe one at a time. at 0 - 5 -10. Then go to the next or whatever, but i have no idea what each of these pedals can do.
4:45 What is the song you are playing here? You also play it during the Helix demo. I feel like it is from a video game I have played, but I just can't remember.
It almost seems trendy to avoid mentioning Boss, but considering that you can get one for under 100.00, it's nicely tweakable, and sounds great, why spend 200.00 or more on an effect you'll most likely use on only a handful of songs?
Eventide’s H9 and ModFactor Phaser fx are of first quality. Def better than a myriad of analog pedals. That said there are some things Subdecay Phasers are probably the best foot out there along with the Seymour Duncan Polaron.
The ironic think with this ranking is that The Whetstone is missing, Subdecay abandoned its old design which is what is #1 here, and it has adopted the same OTA design as the Whetstone.
@@ladyelect9274 The type of transistors that make the phase I think. Small Stone is an OTA-based phase, Phase 90 is something else (op amp I think) for example
Not really… OTA‘s are transconductance amplifiers and rather a form of voltage controlled amplifiers. The Quasar did not switch to opamps but actual VCA’s (voltage controlled amplifiers) namely the V2164 made by Coolaudio (Behringers in-house chip manufacturer). So it’s actually really close to the empress by now!
BuildYourOwnBass I'm on a phase quest. Can you please tell me privately? I've had many including the Mutron II Phasor, Maestro MP-1, Pearl PH44 Stereo Phaser and vintage 70's MXR Phase 90 Script Logo. Btw my favorite so far is my Morley phaser wah. Pain to dial in but the range of options is unbelievable. It's HUGE and takes up a lot of my board. Looking to replace it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I might be late, but eqd night wire is a harmonic tremolo with LFO settings, so you are not wrong, it is not a good phaser pedal but one nice unique tremolo!
FET phasers sound a lot different than Opto, especially after high gain, which is where I like to place them. Post reverb sound sick too. Whoever wanted reverb last in the chain? Amp manufacturers
Ethan Sprague Those do one thing well, very well, but for the type of music he's making, these phasers are more useful. Of these boutique phasers, the older Blackout Effectors Whetstone, is my favorite. It's analog, and does what a P90 and Small Stone can do, yet has multiple other options, including vibrato. Check it out, if you never have.
Top 10 phasers in this guys opinion, of the ones he has access to, maybe ... very digital, though - which can be cool for a soundtrack for Ex Machina, or whatever, but not most other things ... :/
FFGG22E I agree. The Whetstone does so many different things, and has a great tone, as well as it's also a vibrato pedal. I've tried many over the years, but still have my Whetstone, and the Sibling, which I use to color leads on certain things.
This is a joke. The best phase shifter I ever owned cost me 160.00 when I was 15 years old. I am now 58. I bought a Mutron Phase 11. If and that is a BIG IF you can find one you MIGHT be able to get it for 5-600.00. They had an on/off button and 3 knobs. Feedback (Color for you who do not know the difference), rate, speed. Total classic perfect in every way. These 10 things which are featured as "Phase shifters" are not phasing me at all. Well, they are as they piss me off. They are not truly phase shifters as originally designed to do. Feel free to cauterize them any way you wish. Surgical nightmares. These sounds are from an alien being and are very expensive. How could you play an entire song with one of these boxes? Has anyone who entertains the purchase of one of these things thought what it would earn them? I am sure all the classic, most popular guitar players on the planet need one of these, as essentials. I am sure Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana and maybe even Jimi Hendrix would have been nothing without one of these. Has no one ever relied on talent or composition skills? NO that is why this stuff sells. If I buy this I will sell platinum records instead of gold. RIGHT ON MAN, make some more of this stuff so I can B.S. my way through my musical journey in my basement recording studio, where nothing will ever be played on an AM radio station anywhere. I would love to hear what David Foster would say if someone showed up and said:I want to make a record and be famous". Which of these boxes will take me to the top of the charts?
Not for 99.9% of guitarist. I guess if you are baked and creating "soundscapes" or doing background noise for a low budget sci fi movie these phasers might come in handy.
Difficult to tell really when other fx are running at the same time, so honestly I didn't learn much here.

agreed. this video had potential to be very useful, but failed for this very point.
Just look up each one separately

is this video about top ten delays and loopers or phasers?
Top ten boxes of crap.
Have you tried Blackout Effectors Whetstone Phaser?
Use a phaser correctly setup seems impossible for people who do the demos !
A few lead tones that work are not weird overmixed chorus setting like this video ?
The night wire is a harmonic tremolo, not a phaser.
Fantastic!!! Every pedal had a unique and individual characteristic, I like them all
You are in the dark side of the music your atmospheres are dark in all your videos but... i love them congrats.
Would like to have heard the Grand Orbiter on its own.

The Chase Bliss sounded quite good. My top 2 are the Effectrode tube, dual phaser and the Red Witch Moon Phaser.
Thats an old school top two. Sounds like its 2010 again when boutique pedals were the new hip thing. Good times.
Are you able to get the Effectrode close to the sound of a Phase 90?
4:45 What is the song you are playing here? You also play it during the Helix demo. I feel like it is from a video game I have played, but I just can't remember.
I’m digging my Walrus Audio Lillian

Agree about Quasar DLY and Chase Bliss, but where is ZVEX Super Seek Wah ???? The craziest great machine of all !!!

Considering that there is a number attached to each one I would assume in order.

Seems like everyone's forgotten about the Blackout Effectors Whetstone in the past 2-3 years.
I'm glad my #1 didn't make the list.
Keep that shit under wrap. Love Subdecay tho!

it's a shame that Subdecay doesn't produce Quasar DLX anymore... fortunately I'm the owner of one.
They do for $249.00 on their website.
What about Moog? Puts these all to shame...
The tc electronic - Helix shocked me with it's tone. I might have to try one out.
TheTechnatron "ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra"
lol It's like the Dr Who theme and, Lion King had a baby.
Wow, Subdecay beats out the Wombtone eh? Interesting.

Kayzer keeps on his way - creating masterpieces just for pedals' demos and playing stupid trash with his metal band at the same time.
This all boutique stuff the standard stuff would be better like small Stone and phase 90
