    15:20 The "properties of Avene water" are the same as the properties of Uriage and LA Roche Posay waters, for example. Those pharmacy French brands are named after the location of the thermal springs from where they source it, and they tend to base all their products around the properties of their mineral water.

    • @LaCharmeuseDeNuages
      @LaCharmeuseDeNuages 2 роки тому +13

      This is not entirely correct, these waters have different mineral compositions and therefore different properties.

      @@PeaceNinja007 Derms generally warn you against this, as you would not be sure that you're getting the real thing. They might be expired or even toxic. I believe even Shereene says that Amazon is not where you should buy your skin care from. The other thing is that when they are on Amazon, they're often twice the price or more.

      Oh .. I mean like everyday over the counter products like say a Neutrogena face wash or something.
      I personally use the most simplest, minimalist and weird products for my personal skincare lol For example, I use pure glycerine and sometimes Vicks Vapor Rub as my general moisturizer after a shower. Sometimes my local store is out of stock on these items .. so I order on Amazon.
      I definitely wouldn’t buy anything that requires a prescription from Dermatologist off of Amazon lol

      @@PeaceNinja007 I meant more products with active ingredients, not simple ones. Many cosmetic ingredients are banned in the EU so we don't find the same products. Even something like Aveeno, which Shereene talks about all the time, can't be found here (if I remember correctly). Sometimes even a few products from the French brands that she mentioned, like Avène and La Roche Posay don't exist here either, because they contain an active that is banned or not used at such high percentages here. We just have different stuff in Europe, so it's nice when we can actually find what US derms love and recommend! And this time, all the ones she mentioned were familiar. 😊

      @@carob3323 Ah okay Makes sense I guess. I find it kinda funny that one of the most French products: La roche Posay, is unavailable in its own country of origin lol
      Anyway, I hope Vicks Vapor Rub is available for sell in France. I wish to one day live there for a year in the future.
      .. oh and borax powder too. I use this a lot. I believe i heard it's highly restricted in the EU.

      I visited French pharmacies in the 80s and I thought they were the most beautiful places ever. Just as pharmacies should be. They were perfection. Beautifully displayed quality products and nothing irrelevant. Here in Australia pharmacies are very competitive and are full of junk quality gifts and foods and all kinds of things that do not belong in pharmacies.

    I started using A313 based on your recommendation in May last year. I started off with 1 or twice per week and increase the frequency as my face can tolerate it till one point I applied every day. Now that I introduce lactic acid to my night routine, I'm using A313 5 times a week and lactic acid 2 times a week. I've seen a lot of improvement on my face. My skin tone is much more even. Hyperpigmentation also improves a lot. It works wonders on my face. I'm on the second tube of A313, Love it!

    Months ago I bought A313 after watching your video on retinols and I love it! I have had zero irritation with it and doesn't seem to dry out my skin - but, I'm a moisturizing fiend. I use other products, but have no doubt that this has upped my game. My skin looks and feels amazing each morning after I use it - I find I can use it every other day without any problems. I'm 53 and at my last appointment, as my dentist turned the bright light on me to look in my mouth, he stopped and exclaimed, "You have no wrinkles! How do you do that?!" I also use La Roche-Posay Lipikar Triple Repair Moisturizing Body Cream. I use it on my face almost daily, and I love, love, love.

    Dear Shereen,
    can you please make a difference between homeopathy and plant cosmetics?
    As a chemist I can clearly state that homeopathy : so diluted it has no treatment molecules in it, placebo effect only, BUT plant medication: has effects (and side effects) like any other chemical molecule for treatment.
    I love calendula e.g. it makes bruises heal so fast! No comparison to the worthless homeopathic stuff ...
    Love Saturdays because of your videos ❤️

    • @sheenajae
      @sheenajae 2 роки тому +3

      It's my understanding that "weak" homeopathic formulations (ie MORE concentrated formulations) containing botanicals can be potentially effective, just not by the nonsensical mechanisms that homeopathy states.

    • @ammonitelight
      @ammonitelight 2 роки тому +9

      It really depends on the dilution strength- many are diluted to oblivion, but some aren't. For example, Boiron's Arnicare bruise gel uses a 1X dilution of arnica, which is a 1:10 dilution, so there's still plenty of molecules left (it also smells like arnica, so there's enough arnica in it to have an odor).
      Homeoplasmine doesn't actually list homeopathic dilutions. It lists all the ingredients in grams. So, it's technically just a botanical based ointment. :)

    • @SueRosalie
      @SueRosalie 2 роки тому +3

      correct. Homeopathy is quackery. It's just bottled water for gullible consumers. It's not banned simply because it's harmless and governments are not concerned with people wasting money, they just care about harm. In fact if homeopathic products were actually diluted according to the rules of homeopathy, there is not enough water on planet earth to do so. Mathematicians and skeptics have already done the calculations.

    Fellow allergy sufferer here ❤ On that note, and as spring is approaching fast, I'd love you to make a video on the skincare dos and don'ts during allergy season for people whose skin is affected by hay fever and the like. Stuff to soothe inflammation and, if necessary, taking your medicine is a no-brainer, but I wonder about reducing certain actives a litte bit, whether applying a cool pack (fridge, not freezer ;)) in the evening might help or do more harm than good etc.

    I also used this routine when I got injured in sports (sprained ankles, bad bruises, etc).

I had been using tretinoin from my dermatologist for a few years, but after a trip to France in fall 2019 I picked up some of this and decided to give it a try, and have been using it ever since. I was worried that it wouldn’t do anything considering how supposedly weak it is, but my skin has been looking really good. And I have definitely noticed that morning after glow, but that certainly makes sense if it’s more to do with the moisturizing base than the actual actives. I like dotting it on my face, then gently rubbing it in, then covering it with a layer of LRP Cicaplast Baume. PS if your French is considered terrible, then mine is tragique!

A 2004 study concluded "TEOA may cause liver tumors in mice via a choline-depletion mode of action and that this effect is likely caused by the inhibition of choline uptake by cells." Basically the product in itself isn't but due to contact with other products present during the application, it gets dangerous. Endocrine disruptors are also used in Biafine and allergic reactions are common due to a lot of byproducts. I hope this helps understanding. There’s been a lot of research that “Polyethylene glycol (PEG compounds). PEGs are widely used in cosmetics as thickeners, solvents, softeners and moisture-carriers. Depending on manufacturing processes, PEGs may be contaminated with ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane, which are both carcinogens. Look out for ingredients with the initials “PEG” followed by a number (i.e. PEG-100).” It’s a known endocrine disruptor. You can google it you’ll see a bunch of research.

Your accent is super charming, so no reason to feel self-conscious about it (I'm from Québec so you'd probably frown at my own accent haha)! About the Toleriane line in LaRoche-Posay, I don't know if this is the way they intended, but as a French-Quebecker I interpreted that name as being a play on the word tolérance, and since it's for sensitive skin I assume they're trying to promote that it'll build skin's tolerance... but I didn't do any further research on this.

I apply the hand cream, lipsil and baume b5 everywhere I have eczema (+lips) right before bed, and when I wake up my skin is NEW (I don't reapply hand cream in the day, so I get all cracked by bedtime, to give you an idea). They also have a nice, dry-touch sunscreen that keeps the skin matte (this brand's sunscreen is highly recommended by dermatologists). I'm ashamed to say that I don't even know any skincare from here though :( . Love all of the brands mentioned in the video, many of which I have been using for years. When talking about the French brands, would add the Uriage one, almost no one mentions on the net. Yes, Europe is a liitle bit on the fragrance side. However, the formulations are well researched and science based. Of course, not all fragrances suit all skin issues, thus I consult my longtime dermatologist on these, since each individual's skin is, well, individual 😊 which also means that my or anybody else's skin is constantly changing (hormones, age, seasons, certain medical conditions, stress, etc, etc). But would also genuinely recommend a selection of URIAGE products as well. ❤P.S. Uriage thermal water is fragrance free and EXQUISITE for all seasons, coming from thermal springs as well + the rest of the ingredients list additionally enhancing other products' effectiveness. Besides that, it comes in all sizes. I'm always carrying one in my purse.

      So, "organic" filters refers to organic chemistry compounds (molecules) which is what the so misnamed " chemical sunscreens" are!!! They are all Hydrocarbons and Hydrocarbons belong to organic chemistry. The mineral sunscreens which I just call ionic compounds are actually dealt with in inorganic chemistry!!! I am a biochemist and a pharmacologist. ALL OF THEM ARE CHEMICALS!!! EVERYTHING IS A CHEMICAL!!! YOU are made of chemicals!!! So, that name (which is so annoying to chemists), chemical sunscreens is grrr..... They are all chemicals and they are all made in labs!!! We don’t have enough ZnO nor TiO2 to mine, so we make it in inorganic chm. labs. 🙄😒☹

I finished one Ordinary 0,5 retinol serum, then Facetheory Regenacalm / retinol esters serum .. very pleased, now I am finishing the second Geek and Gorgeous A-game 0,05 retinal very very happy with that. Of course I use now SPF, peptides, moisturizer. I ordered from France A313 and I use it mixed with Biafine for my hands and it’s wonderful. I don’t want ever use Tretinoin. Is it OK to use some months retinal then retinol esters with are light version? Later perhaps Grandactive retinoid 2% in emulsion? I have seen all of your videos at least 3 times it’s one to notice every detail you are mentioning. I am ok with consistency but everyone says to build in time to stronger retinoids and that is not my goal cause these two years I made a skin barrier I could never imagine that was possible. It was healed in four days. It blew my mind. I wish I had found this site earlier. I was in a bad accident in September. I now wonder how much better the bad cuts on my legs, knees and face, which weren’t stichable, would have healed using Biafine. I also have sensitive skin and have started using sone products you suggested for that and I can already see a difference in the condition of my skin. Thank you Dr. idriss.
