Thankyou Kirsty what a fabulous tutorial nice to see you do a Horse he is lovely do you blend on your last layer as I find it dulls a little bit how do you prevent that happening
At the end, I only softly blend any areas that I think need to be softened with my finger (I do it very lightly, just to remove any graininess etc without blending the colours/strokes too much)
kirsty can u plz tell that can we paint oil paint without linseed oil or walnut alkyd medium bcz i only have paint thinner and gambalin solvent free gel. it would be good if i could get ur own advice for medium since even though u dont use oils... 😘
I actually do use oil, I just don't do tutorials! You can use it without mediums, and you can also thin it with paint thinner or gel if you want You don't need linseed or alkyd mediums but they do make it easier for certain techniques and effects etc
i would spend three months on an a4 piece refining all the tiny details that look photographic up close but the flaw was the values it loss realism the further back you go from it, now im learning to spend less time and challenging myself with time limits and focusing on values over details.
There are a lot of people who prefer doing a lot of details! It's really a personal choice, but you definitely don't have to add a lot of details to make it look realistic 😊
I work the same, I like putting the base first, I also eliminate unnecessary details. I prefer drawing the outline freehand, coz I feel like I am not drawing when I use grids ortracing
can u plz tell that does arches hot press papper have any tooth to it. like is the tooth more than starthmore 300 series vellum papper. thnx for the tips though. ur pastel n graphite tips helped my color pencil lmao😂😂
Thank you 😊 All paper has tooth to it, it just varies on how much. Arches hot-pressed is quite smooth but not as smooth as some drawing papers I haven't tried strathmore vellum because I can't get access to it in Australia so I couldn't tell you!
@@megooart It will get easier. Color is amazing to work in! Also drawing in black and white is good background experience for drawing in color, since getting your values right are just as important in color as they are in black in white. Keep it up!
@@FineArtforChrist hi, I hope so. Thanks. I just don't draw a lot with color because it is just difficult. When I get some tips and when I get it how to draw with color. Then I hopefully can draw color drawings often.
My artwork is not considered "hyper-realism" (which means the artwork is indistinguishable from a photo) but I do consider my work "realism" because it definitely looks like a drawing still I have actually answered this question in an old UA-cam video ua-cam.com/video/rmG6x26Aq4I/v-deo.html
@@KirstyRebeccaFineArt I think my comment came across all wrong. You made a reference to hyper-realism in the video, and, my intention was to agree that being more painterly/artsy was more aesthetically pleasing than making all your art look just like a photo. Love your demos and tutorials.
Cool thanks, I'll keep that in mind I have never been lucky enough to own a horse so I'm not that familiar with them (I draw a lot of different animals and I don't claim to be an expert in an of them so I am still learning new things every day 😊 )
Magnificent Kirsty!! I always look forward to your videos!
Glad you like them! 😊
I am speechless!💓🌞
Love this picture! The background is beautiful with the lovely horse.... Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much!
Hi kirsty I love the colors you used in this portrait so much ❤️ it look so special in comparison to the reference. Well done.

omggg i love ur channel. ur so underrsted 😭😭
Thank you 😊
Beautiful!
Thank you 😊
You are amazing 🤩
Great tutorial Kirsty! Do you use any sort of fixative on your finished pastel pieces? 😊
Thank you 😊
No I don't, its not necessary with the supplies I use, and it can affect the colours quite a bit!
A beautiful piece Kirsty. Horses are one of my favourite animals. I just purchased some Faber Castell Pitt Pastel pencils, love them! (-: Marion
Thank you 😊
I don't know a lot about horses but they really are beautiful!
What is rhe size of paper you use here?
Am sooooooo impressed & inspired! Do you ever apply an alcohol or water wash to your Pastelmat artwork?
Thank you 😊
I haven't felt the need to use alcohol or water on pastel!

Can one use soft pastel sticks rather than the panned pastel
Yes, but you'll have to apply the sticks very lightly so you don't fill up the tooth of the paper too quickly 😊

Sounds great! Everyone has their own way of creating art so I'm glad you found a way that suits you 😊

omg thanks to reply.
I just started with the chalk pastel. Hope I can make something amazing with it😅
I hope so too!
@@KirstyRebeccaFineArt it is so hard to draw with color🥴. Most of the time I draw with gray pencil😅🖤

The case against hyper realism is why not just take an photograph?

the mane looks so fuzzy 😀 my problem with types of art is too much focus on detail, really need to stop

I used to be the same way!
Love your art but, horses have hair not fur🤣.
