  • This is one of the worst products that I have EVER used and not only that, it's a huge ripoff and the glowing reviews on Amazon are all lies!
This is my Agenda Free Review of the Phone Skope PYRO Putty Emergency Survival Fire Starter.
    It's Hot Garbage!

Phone Skope PYRO Putty Emergency Survival Fire Starter
What it is : According to the company this product is an emergency fire starter that is easier to use than the competition, more efficient, non-toxic, waterproof and weather resistant and will burn through sleet, rain, and wind.
    Agenda Free Link : www.amazon.com/Phone-Skope-Em...
Price : Super Expensive for the amount of fire starter that you get - $13
    Weight : 2oz Can
Materials : I have no idea what they have used to make this; they claim it is nontoxic on the amazon listing but that’s not true. More on this point in a moment.
Versions : The company has different variations of this product which they claim works better in different conditions. For an example, this is the “winter blend” and it is designed to work in temps from -20F to 90F.
Fun Fact, the packaging says -10 but the web site says -20F. Some variants are designed…according to the company to work best in temps of 30F all the way up to 100F. Others are best up to 110F.
In other words, there is a ton of marketing Mumbai jumbo concerning this stuff. All of it, complete Bullshit.
    Amazon Reviews :
    Before I purchased this product to review, I was considering it and while doing so I was looking at the reviews on Amazon and what stood out to me were two points;
This product has thousands and thousands of positive reviews
But when you start going through those reviews there are tons and tons of negative reviews present.
I looked into this and used sites that analyze reviews on sites like amazon and this doesn’t surprise me at all; virtually all of the reviews on Amazon are completely fake.
The Amazon rating for this product is 4.5 stars but when the fake reviews are removed, it sits at 1.5 stars.
All sites that I used for analyze these reviews stated that the reviews present are highly deceptive, only 40% were legit and those are negative.
    Review Pros :
    None! Don’t buy it.
    Review Cons :
    Company Claims :
The company states that this is non-toxic; that’s a lie and is again another example of the marketing BS from this company.
On the can, it states that this product and the chemicals used are known to cause cancer and that it should be used in well ventilated areas. Don’t breathe it in. Releases carbon monoxide.
Claims that it is totally waterproof
“Designed to burn through sleet, rain, wind, high altitudes, and a wide range of temperatures”
    Wind Performance?
Quarter size dab - what does that mean? A quarter is flat …… maybe they mean a large size marble size
Company States - Stay safe out there without slowing yourself down with propane, complicated fire starters, or lighters that need to be recharged.
What does propane have to do with a fire starter?
What is a complicated fire starter?
Lighters that have to be recharged? There is so much wrong with all of this…..
The Company State - This fire starter fuel will burn in any weather or circumstances. Such broad claims are always BS!
Easy to ignite? Can a Ferro rod strike it up?
    Can it be blown out?
How long does it burn for?
How much heat does it produce?
This is a very expensive fire starter and I would not recommend this to anyone in any situation. Make up some cotton balls and Vaseline and you’ll be good to go. Buy this and you’re wasting your money.
Also, it leaves your fingers very greasy and colored after handling.

I later bought a tin of it but as I recall i didn't pay very much for it off a site that sells stuff discounted. Last week I went to the woods to try out my new Solo stove and have lunch. it was probably a few degrees below freezing and I used the Winter sample to start my Solo stove. It worked just fine, I used a lighter to start it. Whoa whoa whoa.
I own this stuff, and it's a gem. A small amount burns for more than long enough to get anything that isn't soaked to catch. I've used it camping countless times, and it just... Works. Catches either the first or second spark off a rod every. Single. Time.
Hell, once I placed an Amazon order, and one of the tims was badly dented. All I wanted was a new tin, but they sent me a full on replacement.
Of COURSE you need to "pull it apart." Come on. This is just running down a product to run it down.
Honestly, I've used far less than the "quarter size" used here (of both the summer and winter type) and had no issues. Fluff a bit with a twig, spark, and set your tinder.
This sort of review legitimately makes me wonder about this channel, man. Like, I have hands on experience with this stuff, and the grips just... It runs me wrong.
I'd considered sending my other favorite firestarter for testing, but now I feel like it wouldn't get nearly a fair shake, so I don't want to harm the company.

Burner brand fire starters on Amazon (UK) 100 drum for £10 or 500 drum for £30. Best fire starter I have used. Indefinite shelf life & "non toxic". Either light the wrapper with a lighter or slice it to expose the flammable interior & use a Ferro rod. Solid 5 plus min burn time. I made my own fire starter, using dryer lint and candle wax from Amazon. I made a sheet of it on a cookie tray, with wax paper underneath so that it could easily be peeled away from the tray. A small (maybe .5"×.5") square from it burned for around 7 minutes (if I remember right). It took a little longer than I wanted to light, but that is because I think that I added too much wax (I will add less wax on the next batch). Overall, I was much happy with my first attempt at a cheap fire starter than I was expecting.

To be fair anything you burn is "toxic" even 100% natural items. It just a matter of how toxic they are.
Way over priced. It's so eazy to make your own including "tin" for a quarter or less of that cost

Thanks again Luke for your great review! I always look forward to your videos, keep up the good work. It seems like there wasn't very much thought or effort put into this product....the cost doesn't justify buying this product....the smoke does look very toxic, why would I want this near my camp? No thanks!

I had never heard of Fakespot until this video. I just added it to Chrome and checked it out on Amazon for this product and it got a D rating. Thanks for the info! That extension will be very helpful in the future.

Not a bad choice, but I like the stormproof matches. For the Zippo, how do you keep the fluid from evaporating, or do you just fill it before you head out? Have you had any issues in really cold weather it?

This product almost certainly will not live up to claims, but this is still a LOUSY test. You could have made 10 min easy if you made a ball, and just pulled a few fibres off the top, and nothing will keep burning when you have a tiny fire and dump a bunch of water on it. It’s not thermite. Water proof means you can dunk it, then go and light it after. As for toxicity, a lot of things aren’t toxic to handle, but when burned it changes.
As I said, I’m positive it won’t meet claims, and is no better than a cotton ball, but still need to test better than this.

Fuel costs money. All these starters cost money. Yeah some are really cheap, but the free stuff like fatwood and birch bark has always worked and works very well. Granted it may not be easily obtained by everyone in all areas of the globe.
