- I had a very short window on the late morning/early afternoon session. Conditions were great. Somehow the water was super clear, even after a storm rolled through. Yup, the 5-arm rig got the job done...again. Not sorry if you're tired of seeing it in action. It catches me fish, so no reason to stop using it 😉.

Best halibut fishing from the surf /beach I have seen came with grunion runs and hitting the beach the morning after they spawn. They post predicted beaches where the grunion will run online throughout So-cal. Combo of the custom A-rig and a Grunion pattern would be lethal on halibut.
Agreed. The only problem is that is typically a very low tide morning and the rig is hard to use at low tide.

They're there and everywhere. Timing and presentation is everything. I saw a couple shorts get caught recently. They're starting to show. Couple more weeks of warmer air temp and warmer surface temps will get the spring spawn kicked off!
Nice Halley. Got them in a canal on the orange county Las Angeles line next to the river. That feed the power plant with cooling water.
I know the river is okay to fish and the entrance to the canal, just make sure to not sneak past the gates. That is an expensive ticket. It used to be fishable, but they closed it.

Will that rig work here in sw florida?
Yes, BUT...Make sure to look a the FL fishing regs. There are certain species of fish that are not allowed to be "harvested" (meaning kept) if hooked with rod and line that has more than 1 hook. For saltwater, check on pages 10-13 for ALL species labeled with a "T". These are NOT allowed to be caught with 2 or more hooks.

Absolutely. I know that the fish are going to bite it, so might as well use what I know I will get back 95% of the time if I do get stuck. The fish don't mind the heavy setup. It's a reactionary bite with a-rigs.
At the end of the day you gotta do what makes you the most happy and provides the best of your time so I do understand I’m just a hater from the outside looking in because I do everything with lite tackle and a lot of finesse and I put two through four hours of fishing in every time I go out if I catch the big one in the first five minutes of steel put in the hours of work
Might see you out there one of these days I’ll go to that spot now and then right now I’m mostly doing Marina del Rey I’m usually the only guy over there
